'This piece emerged naturally from one called "A Green Hill Far Away", in which a single wind turbine occupies a wooden hillock. I realise I'm messing with deeply-held views in making these pieces and I can see that a section of society might take offence at the seeming trivialisation of matters as enormous as the energy crisis and climate change. It's not really my mission to sooth the sensibilities of any one interest group, even though as a pacifist and coward, I don't like to cause hurt.
This piece employs the well-known Sliding Block mechanism to link the movement of the driving handle to all three turbines. The action is not particularly smooth, in fact it's downright jerky because of the lack of balance in the turbine blades and the 3 x 352 degrees of lost motion in the transmission.' Paul Spooner
