Regarding your criticism about a paradox stopping you from fulfilling your bid if it happens too early, this can actually be a good strategy in the right circumstances. For example, it may be better for me to force a paradox and get 0 or -1 points, specifically to stop you from making your bid and getting 6 bonus points.
Thank you for this video. I quess that creating a line of same symbols may be very satisfying, if someone manage to create it intentionally:) a paradox minus score maybe a kind of problem here but I quess it may still depends on our strategy or our decisions, rather than pure luck or bad luck.
Presumably, you could remove paradoxes by only including for copies of each card and not ditching a card face down at the beginning of a hand. It might remove some of the tension, though.
Just received this one in the post about five minutes ago. I've been waiting for this delivery for over two months, stocks have been really low in the UK. But the wait is now over, I just know this one's gonna be a big hit with the gang, and I can't wait to get playing it. My favourite trick taker is The Bottle Imp, but its hitherto undisputed title could suddenly be under pressure.
Hahaha I liked the Bottled Imp too. That's such a mean game. If your group enjoys tricktaking I can also strongly recommend Skull King. For some reason it has remained a favorite in my groups. Though it's not as 'different' as Cat in the box or Bottle Imp.
@@lystic9392 Well, now you've done it! I have to confess, I've never heard of Skull King before, but after reading what you said about it, I've only just went and ordered it! It better be as good as you say or I'll be sending you a very strongly worded letter!😂 Cat's a brilliant game too, definitely in my top three favourites; also let's not forget Jekyll v Hyde.
Does anyone know if this game will have a retail edition? I can only find it for $50+ at the moment, which seems high to me, at least for a smaller box game.
Hmm, that's a tough one then. I really want to try this game. But I'd rather put my $50 toward a bigger game like Cloudspire. Cat in the Box feels more like $25 to me.
There was a printing or distribution issue with the first print run, which resulted in stock (at least in North America) being heavily allocated. Second print run is supposed to be out soon, at which point prices will come down. MSRP is USD $29.95.
I bought this and haven't had a chance yet to play. I'm excited to get to it. Now I wonder, what is your favorite trick taking game? Edit: HA! I asked to soon, I'll check out the crew!

So 9 months later... Has it held up for you?
I played this once at 3 players…it fell flat…final score 7-1-0….paradoxes real put a damper on things
Paradoxes and the way they are resolved is my least favorite part.

The deluxe is the retail, it's called deluxe because it's a reprint of the original

@@JonTripp115 Thanks Jon! I can get behind that price point and will keep an eye out to pick up a copy then.
@@mr.soupnickles3997 barnes and noble has it in that price if you are interested.
I’d love to experience this game but don’t know that I need to add it to my collection. I will have to check whether my local board game cafe has it.
Same
It's solid, are you at the pax Meetup? It can be brought...
@@BoardGameCo I’m not. Sad face. My kids are too young to travel and too young to leave behind. I’m looking forward to hearing the stories!

Thank you for the review!
Absolutely!
Ty for the video!
:)
It is fun until you play a perfect game and some other player busts before end so you lose many potential points...huge pass for me
Yep, I'm aware and put that into my things I don't like :)
