  • 1972 Mustang Mach 1 Q Code 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet Purchased in 1983 from 2nd owner, garaged since 1985, Partial Restoration done back in the mid 90's and recently re-painted. I know the hood is not Mach 1 style but Boss 351 style but that was how it was when I bought it and I like it, so I kept it that way..also I know the T-tops are not original but the original owner had them installed when it was painted as well, likely done in the late 70's, so I kept it that way as well. They never offered Raven Black in 1972 this was original a 6F Gold Glow Metallic car, but I like the black and kept it that way

Rear deck spoiler appears to be installed backwards

Majority of videos and pictures I see online it is mounted like this, straight edge facing forward, tapered-swept inward shorter side facing rear, so which is it ?

Here is another site, with diagrams, leading front edge is thicker, trailing rear edge is thinner 429mustangcougarinfo.50megs.com/mustang_exterior.htm

@@user-no3hw5kd9p sure, you got me thinking...am looking into the correct angle as well, since it is adjustable, the diagram doesn't show the proper height of rear above trunk lid so I just eye it, on the other hand have never taken it off the pedestals so it's been like that since I got it in 1983

wow nice, do you mean a 72' Q code or this exact car ? I got a hold of the previous, previous owner to find out who painted it, it was a guy Paul Yeager or Chuck Yeager (not right stuff pilot) who lived in Manassas VA, was hoping to get some additional info about the T-tops, anyways, Marti report said it was sold at Cope Ford in Woodbridge VA so it would be nice to get some more info, thanks though

Nice car, I own a couple myself both Q codes.
I’ve never seen rear louvre like that, did you really drill holes into the roof to connect them?
The original ones had small tabs that slid under the glass window and were covered by the molding.

thanks, I appreciate that comment, I bought it in 1983 like that with those already installed so I don't know where they came from, I would guess that JC Whitney catalog was popular in the early 80's with cheaper versions of things in there, so maybe they were from there, haven't seen anything else similar to that either, there are 2 thumb screws ? holding them down, so it is pretty quick and easy to lift up and clean the rear glass (like it would make any difference can't see out of the back) so will install a backup camera and keep it on most of the time

Wow, that took me back to my youth.
I suppose you’re right, they most likely came from jcwhitney. No one else made them, I believe the originals came from Kar Kraft.
I see you wrote in another comment about wanting a 5spd to replace the C6,... if you don’t mind me suggesting, just beef up the C6. An automatic is always faster than a manual, but I know what you mean when you say you want to “drive it”. My cars are both 4spd.
If you go manual, I’d find a 4spd TopLoader and bolt that in, then run a modern clutch setup, either cable or hydraulic. There are manufacturers who make kits for these cars to convert them to modern clutch system setup and it’s a world of difference. You would absolutely love a 4spd setup. Adjust your preference in the rear axle, for highway speeds you want a tall gear like a 3.00 and for 1/4 mile you’ll want something like 3.73.
The 4spd Topload is a monster! It will handle anything you throw at it with a smile.

Yes, C6, thanks for the comment, have been working on it since 1983 when I first got it, am wanting to make it a 5 speed so I can "drive" it instead of "ride" in it, if you know what i mean !

@@greek440bc I burnt a valve showing off to a friend doing a burn out. I ended up just going ahead & rebuilding the motor. Cleveland 351 takes a 11" clutch & pressure plate. I went to Jeggs they couldn't believe I didn't have a Boss motor because Boss 302 & 351 take 11". I bought a Weber disc & S Heifer pressure plate.
