When I received my black belt I listened our Shihan saying that we have a stiff shoulder and just six years later I understood. So In the last nine years I drove my karate for this kind of movement, and my technique has been more fluid and faster. Congratulations for video.

Oss, saying that, I love his practical approach.I compared him to a cat.I heard a story that once after training all the JKA Dan grades went for a drink. A fight broke out.The cops came. Arrested all of them. However they could not catch Asai Sensei. He was to quick for them.

Asai again with his bullshit. Is this impressive??? No what's impressive is if that attacker does an attack that Asai does not expect, not having the poor guy do lots and lots of oi-zuki and after Asai gets the proper feel he goes all apeshit with his slaps and what nots. Not really ichigeki stuff but somehow it impresses people. Egad

Hey, calm down. Impressive or not, you should still respect this man for who he was. Asai Sensei was appointed Technical Director of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) by Masatoshi Nakayama Shihan. Firstly, He had a good knowledge and a clear understanding of what he was teaching, especially having graduated from the Takushoku University and also having trained directly under Gichin Funakoshi and Nakayama Shihan themselves. Secondly, throughout his karate career he was renowned as the former JKA Grand-Champion gaining 1st place in Kumite and 2nd place in Kata, during THE FIFTH JKA ALL-JAPAN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS in 1961. Once again, he knew exactly what he was teaching to his students and can easily expect any techniques from an attacker. Asai Sensei taught how to block oi-zuki for a more simple approach to both the average and highly-trained karate-ka, to have a better understanding of his style of Karate seeming it was extremely advanced during his prime. Asai Sensei sought to improve on the karate taught at the JKA. Through his own personal training and research, he developed an all encompassing and highly effective style of bujutsu (real fighting) karate: Asai Ryu. Lastly, he was founder and Chief Instructor of the IJKA, and founder of the Japan Karate Shoto-Renmei (JKS; Also known as the Japan Karate Shoto Federation). At the least, he earned the rank of 10th degree black belt at the time of his death. He is someone worth aspiring too. OSS!

Hello Christian, I feel what you wrote is very disrespectful. Not that you'll find it not good, that is up to yourself , right? But here you judge a karate method that has emerged from the experience of Asai Sensei and I know that a lot of truth in his movements. Sometimes it is useful to look beyond the horizon of his own point of view. So it is possible that things evolve and emerge from the rigid. Have a good time, Tanja
