  • Here I'm putting pistons into my AEB engine... only to find there's interference with a connecting rod. I have to remove a little material, and then it's good-to-go!

Its always good practice to weigh your pistons, rings and rods and be as similar weight wise, otherwise try to mix and match or even take some material out. This makes a huge difference in high rpm engine vibrations.

Awesome video! How did that clearance work that you did in cylinder 2 work out? I've heard that we need to account for things flexing a bit at high speeds. It looks like maybe you accounted for that, but it wasn't clear.
    Thanks for the great video!

Are you using nom-OE connecting rods, is that why you had the clearance issue on cyl #2?

To be specific I believe due to the block being 058, apparently there would be clearance issues.

Because the rods are subject to the torque loads. It's not horsepower or combustion pressure that blows rods. It's torque at the crank.

hey sir i found on an audi manual
    these specs
-Cylinder Maximum deviation from the specified dimension: 0.08 mm.
-Piston Maximum deviation from the specified dimension: 0.04 mm.
So the standard diametre + max deviation is 81.01+0.08=81.09mm and piston 80.975-0.04=80.945mm
is it normal to have a clearance of 0.145 (81.09-80.945) ? even tho the standard clearance was 0.04 (81.01-80.975) so the clearance of this engine can go from 0.04 up to 0.13 ?
