Signalis was the first game I went in truly blind to. It was back when it was on gamepass, I was bored and had nothing else to play. One day, I bit the bullet and played all the way through it. I beat it in the span of one day, and then couldn’t play any other game for like, two weeks, because it just felt wrong-after finishing it, it felt as if I was mourning the characters’ fates. It was a unique experience I’ll never forget.
The only thing I knew about SIGNALIS going in was that it was an "anime-style" survival horror, and I'm so glad I never sought out more information. Slowly coming to understand what this game was in my own time was an experience I'll never forget.

I have been scouring all of youtube for Signalis content for the last month after beating the game. I can say that your video has been the best concise distillation and representation of how this game makes you feel. I went in blind going into the game, I saw the opening 10 mins of Power Pak’s video essay on it, stoped watching, bought it and literally forgot about it for 6 months while other games had my attention. When I finally sat down to play signalis, I wasn’t that invested, just a horror game with a really neat retro style right? Little did I know how much I was being immersed. It wasn’t intentional and I honestly didn’t know it was happening until I read Falke’s words “she will never dance with us again” and broke down in tears. Then another breakdown when I finally got my first ending, The Promise. No other game and not many other story’s have drip fed me so much atmosphere in such a way that I didn’t know my own investment until it tore out my heart. And that pain was the beginning of the obsession. I don’t think I have ever found a game that I have loved quite like this. You did an amazing job on the video, and I am excited to explore your channel as I get more time! And your music is killer! Thanks for putting your thoughts and feelings into the world!
I wanted to maybe clarify the artifact ending a little. This is a reference to a story in the book The King in Yellow, in which an alchemist of sorts creates a liquid the freezes any living thing in marble. The first thing he tests it on is a lily. Eventually, the woman he loves falls into a tub of it and is frozen for decades. But eventually, he finds the old lily, un-frozen, and he thinks a servant is pulling a messed up prank on him. Only, he finds that the woman unfroze too, with enough time. I interpreted the game as an allegory for East Germany’s suppression and censorship of the arts, and this thawing is the release following reunification. From a narrative point though… you can take it as them finally being together, in peace. Maybe in a little pocket of self-made reality, since the plot of the game revolves around Ariane‘s dreams twisting reality as she lays there in the cryo pod.
Thank you for this video. I knew the story was sad and tragic, barely holding my tears at the promise ending which was the first one I got, but I never dove into my feelings about it. Like yeah I realised all that elster went through but... it didn't click with me, aS in it didn't truly make me realise how tragically beautiful this singular devotion of her is. Your video made me realise how I truly feel about signalis... and unearthed my traumas regarding this masterpiece

I definitely felt the same thing after getting the Artifact ending! Having finished it utterly makes you even more hollow (or empty) than Die Toteninsel manages. Thanks to that, the schubert song that plays there works to instantly make me cry on the spot.

I've watched this video twice now and wow... it's such an experience in of itself. I didn't get all the endings of Signalis, but it looks like I ought to. It was one of my favourites of 2022, but more and more I'm worried I didn't give it the space it needed to really grip me. Fantastic work!
I normally watch videos in the background but i was so glued to the screen that i missed my stop c: And the music is absolutely incredible. I thought in the beginning it was the ost but the more i listened the more i became comfortably unsettled. Like i remembered this music, somewhere somehow. So familiar, yet the more you look the more song unravels, becomes strange and distant. Overall the music captured the game vibes absolutely perfectly! And the whole video too is amazing

I'm going to give this my best shot when I'm in a good mindspace, because hoo boy. I never really had an issues with ego-death/unreality/existentialist stuff, but this game gets my brain locked in intensely negative thought-spirals. Thanks for the vid, and the heavy emotional work you put into it.
[points] piranesi mention!! okay, now for the actual comment. first of all, god, your soundtrack chops are incredible as always, incredibly well-blended with the general atmosphere of Signalis's own OST. i'm putting this bit in a separate line for emphasis. seriously, it owns. anyway, holy _crap_ is this a good video. Signalis has been in my general orbit for a while -- i'm not good enough at video games to play it, but i'm patient enough to theoretically search until i find an LPer capable of respecting its tone and setting while playing through the whole thing -- but this is absolutely the video that sold me on it. i think i've probably said it before, but you have a really great way of wording things evocatively enough that even through several layers of abstraction the absolute raw emotion of Signalis (and your video style in general, honestly) really shines through. excited to hear that original album! extremely good and downright beautiful video, as always :D
