Julius was originally not supposed to betray you. He was originally supposed to be running away, heavily injured in the ending. However, this didn't happen because Volition forgot the animation, and therefore changed the direction of SR2 and the series as a whole.
Funny thing about "Salting the Earth"... They gave Julius a "watch check" animation when his model clearly has no watch. Julius wasn't intended to be a traitor and plant the bomb, but the game's budget was at its end. So we got Saints Row 2 as we got it because budget ran out.
yes xbox was the best console back then, it was like owning a powerful gaming pc, uncomparable with the cheap ps2, sadly not many games were made to exploit his performance

Sounds interesting. The Ronin did have a reason to have animosity toward the Saints, despite the fact that the Rollerz were just their business partners, not friends mind you. Then again, the Rollerz were probably the original option for the Akujis’ expansion plan. Honestly it sounds better than Julius practically betraying the Saints as a whole and seeming like a hypocrite.

In Saints Row The Third its revealed he occasionally still bails out The Boss Troy is The Saint of all Saints right next to Johnny and Carlos.

It's not really a retcon if it never happened in cannon. They were just lazy. It's not a retcon. A retcon is when they ignore past story that has happened and create a new one.
When the you realize that the Playa talks at the end of each gang missions and silent most of the time then turns into a complete badass in the second game
Considering the size of that blast, Playa got real lucky he only ended up in coma, while everyone else died. But what didn't kill him, made him only stronger.
This playthrough has reignited my love for SR. SR 2 is still my favorite in the series but the original has more depth to it then I remembered. I'd love to see some lore videos on this game, especially on Troy. Sweet stuff Professional.
I was chocked when the Playa died at the end but you said than he's in the coma. I really enjoyed your playthrough and it makes want to play it and i've saw than you can play it on Xbox One which is great.
If not the entire series, actually. Michael Kenn was an incredible actor that was part of every Saints Row game. It's just a shame they didn't bring him back for the reboot.

Thanks for the playthrough and bringing back so many great memories! Such a shame that every single plot point created in the original Saints Row game was pretty much abandoned after SR2. So many questions remain unanswered and so many plot lines unresolved. Why did Dex betray you? What happened to him? Why did Julius do what he did? That question was barely explored in SR2's joke of an "ending." It really seems like Volition wants absolutely nothing to do with their original SR titles and just tried to milk/capitalize on the silliness of SR The Third and its sequels as much as possible.
All of your answers were answered in SR2. In one of the missions which involves you being in a police station,you'd see some recordings involving Troy,Dex,and Julius. Dex calls Troy,knowing exactly who Troy REALLY is,telling him that he's dropping his flags(Which is another way of saying that he's quitting the gang),and thx to Julius,Dex too betrays the Playa in a way after realizing that The Playa was becoming more and more destructive and uncontrollable thx to Julius noticing it. That and Dex wants to work with Ultor. Although,even tho I know why he wants to kill The Playa(Being a destructive Sociopath),but I have no idea why he wants to kill Julius as well. My guess is him wanting to *"tie up loose ends"* And Troy calls Julius,telling him to get him,The Playa,and the Saints to drop their flags but he doesn't them to get hurt.Which shows that despite Troy being an undercover cop,Troy still cares about The Saints,which is heartwarming. But it becomes heartbreaking when Troy was shocked of Julius' decision to kill The Playa when he called him..and Julius' last calls before he hangs up was *"Relax Troy. The Saints are finished..don't try to find me."* Now my biggest guess of why Julius betrayed The Row? Monroe himself when he captured Julius with Julius spending his time in jail,practically just pressuring him into submission. And with Monroe being a corrupted Chief of Police that once worked with The Vice Kings (Before the Playa eliminates them). It all adds up....except for one thing: Volition not continuing Dex's story in SRTT. I wished that the 3rd game gets a remake/reboot.. Completely retconning the 3rd story that'd fit into Dex's story. Having The Mafia (The Morningstars) and the 3 gangs(With some decent Gang makeovers to make them as important as the rest of the previous gangs) in this Remake-Reboot with Johnny Gat, Pierce and SR2 Shaundi of course. With you taking down the mafia leader,and Dex secretly becomes the new leader and Dex would probably make some of the Saints to turn one another,having a Saints Row Civil War(The Saints Row Civil War idea coming from the cancelled game,Saints Row Undercover),and the whole thing would end up in a bloodbath,and everyone,including Dex,The Playa,Oleg,Kinzie,SR2 Shaundi,Matt,The Twins,and even Pierce and Johnny Gat himself will end up dead..like how most real life Gang wars would end up..becoming the most darkest endings ever. Whatcha think? 😅😊

And not only that, you never ever get your revenge on Dex after his betrayal, he sort of disappears from the franchise after SR2, hence what I meant when I said that plot point was never resolved, or at the very least, it had an extremely dissatisfying conclusion. Overall, the way they handled the characters' resolutions and post-SR1 adventures was really disappointing and underwhelming. It just felt so weak imo. I would've loved the darker retconned ending of the original Saints Row saga, that would've been freakin awesome.
Another great play though! It upsets me that the ending was going to be completely different - if it wasn’t for some last minute garbage where some animators reuse the watch animation for Julius, we would’ve had a murder mystery that would’ve led an interesting lead up to SR2.
Holy crap I genuinely never got to play this part of the game and thought that once all three gangs are done with that would be it but never saw this at all aside from the “secret ending” years later - well played on this walkthrough bud ;)
I played SR2 first b/c my parents got me it around Xmas of 2009 and I fell in love w/ it but seeing Troy and Julius end up where they were in 2 w/ Troy being the new chief of police after chief Monroe gets killed and Julius was a tour guide for the church just blew my mind as well as listening to the convos between Julius and Troy after the explosion that really dive deeper into what happened after the yacht exploded and Julius being arrested and being interviewed by Troy. but again back to my point when you see Troy flash his badge during the final cutscene it really blew my mind that Troy being undercover in SR1 got him a promotion in the still water police.
This was great seeing this play-through, Professional. I completely missed out on this game because I purchased my 360 when Halo 3 launched and by the time Saint's Row 2 hit, I didn't even pay attention. Glad to have seen the main story finally and it made me buy Saint's Row 2 on Steam (was on sale for $2.49 so good deal). Claiming that game is your favorite of all, even more than GTA games is a huge statement and I look forward to playing it, then watching your play-through and lore/analysis videos as they are your best work.
I did not expect this ending either when I bought this game after you started your playthrough. At first, I skipped the cutscene because I was just trying to finish the game, but then it backed me out to the main menu. I was like, "Did my game just crash?" So I went back into my save and actually watched the cutscene, only to see the explosion and the credits rolling lol

Well Pro, here is another walkthrough that you completed, congrats! I'm looking forward to Saints Row 2. and in my opinion, Saints Row the Third was actually fine, Killbane, Cyrus, Loren were all well written antagonists. I agree that it is more wackier and less grounded in story telling, but its better than Saints Row IV though.
Amazing playthrough Pro and lots of great info about Saints Row as well. I bought Saints Row when it came out but aside from a little free roam to get used to the game mechanics I never played it. Lol. Now I have a good handle of the missions so I can do it one day.

I feel bad for the people that lived in the Saints Row district , after the collapse of leadership within the Saints, the people of the Row were just forced into the Red Light and Apartments district which is why everyone in the west and southern parts of Stilwater everyone recognizes you immediately in SR2, also there’s way more people walking around and way more homeless and busyness as well as crime in the Shivington, Sunnyvale and Sommerset areas.
Apart from a couple hidden audio files, becomes irrelevant to the main story and is only an unlockable homie after winning in Fight Club on the prison island.
The original saints row 2 was meant to be a prequel to the original Saints Row storyline. On how Julius and Bens friendship was growing up in Sunnyvale Gardens and while the Carnales was a growing threat, he and Ben form the Vice Kings to counter act against the Carnales. While they weaken the original Carnales led by Alejandro Lopez the father of Hector and Angelo. The Vice Kings would end up being too gang like that Julius decides to drop his flags and settle in Saints Row. At least by Saints Row 3, the saints row sequel to SR 1, could’ve made us understand Julius turned on the playa. Because he saw this happen again. Wanting to keep the neighborhood clean and gang free. Instead the saints did became the Vice Kings who wore purple instead.

6:16 when I played this mission (I already knew what happened cause I played saints row 2 first but didn't understand till I play SR1) I immediately knew it was Troy voice if u picked up on it good but my theory is that Troy knew about Winslow corruption and was conflicted about who to side with (this is cause of him downing bottles and looking hammered) so he called the saints knowing they would do something to save Julius and take out Winslow but that's my head cannon and theory I may be wrong who knows

Julius was actually supposed to be shown running down an alleyway, bloodied and beaten, fighting for his life. If you look back at the cutscene, Julius isn’t even wearing a watch when he walks away. Troy, Ben King, Luz, Donnie, and Aisha were supposed to be the potential culprits for planting the bomb on the yacht. And who did it was supposed to be revealed in Saints Row 3. Yep. Saints Row 3. Saints Row 2 was originally going to be a prequel to Saints Row following Julius and Ben forming the Vice Kings and, eventually, The 3rd Street Saints. Saints Row 3 was going to be a direct sequel to Saints Row that started with the Playa emerging from the water after the explosion.
If you didn't know the ending to saints row one was actually gonna be different from the ending that we got The ending that we were going to get was Julius running in a alleyway wounded And saints row 2 was going to be different from the one that we got And the only reason why we got the ending that we got is because of the developer Got confused

Really enjoyed the playthrough. I might give this game a try if I get some time. I tend to agree that the VKs are my favorite rival gang in this game. And I gotta give best crib to Los Carnales. While I prefer the aesthetic of the Roller's crib, Los Carnales takes it because they have a hot tub.

The whole story for SR1 changed 'cause the mocap directors were too lazy to add Julius running all bloodied in an alleyway.As described by the SR developers in SR2 Anniversary,they were pretty shocked to find out that their mocap directors messed up.SR2 was supposed to be a prequel to SR1 and SR3 was about killing those who attempted to kill you in that boat explosion buuuut thanks to some idiots we couldn't have some nice things and Volition was not great either.Not only they ditched the whole original story when they could still save it but they also listened to the ''Haha GTA clone'' part and made the title something else in 3 and 4(I can't consider them canon,none of them.I pretend they don't exist).We could have had Saints Row 1 port for pc but they thought that 3 needed to be remastered the most.We could have had that prequel but Volition thought rebooting the series with new characters no one asked for was a better idea.You can't have Saints Row without the OGs.

This was on Xbox 360 and there was a big jump in graphic quality from PS2 and Gamecube. It was pretty much on par with a PS3.

Saints Row was indeed a competitor and also served as an alternative to GTA. A lot of people slept on Driver and True Crime series as well.

And not only that, you never ever get your revenge on Dex after his betrayal, he sort of disappears from the franchise after SR2, hence what I meant when I said that plot point was never resolved, or at the very least, it had an extremely dissatisfying conclusion. Overall, the way they handled the characters' resolutions and post-SR1 adventures was really disappointing and underwhelming. It just felt so weak imo.
I would've loved the darker retconned ending of the original Saints Row saga, that would've been freakin awesome.

Another great play though! It upsets me that the ending was going to be completely different - if it wasn’t for some last minute garbage where some animators reuse the watch animation for Julius, we would’ve had a murder mystery that would’ve led an interesting lead up to SR2.
Holy crap I genuinely never got to play this part of the game and thought that once all three gangs are done with that would be it but never saw this at all aside from the “secret ending” years later - well played on this walkthrough bud ;)

I played SR2 first b/c my parents got me it around Xmas of 2009 and I fell in love w/ it but seeing Troy and Julius end up where they were in 2 w/ Troy being the new chief of police after chief Monroe gets killed and Julius was a tour guide for the church just blew my mind as well as listening to the convos between Julius and Troy after the explosion that really dive deeper into what happened after the yacht exploded and Julius being arrested and being interviewed by Troy. but again back to my point when you see Troy flash his badge during the final cutscene it really blew my mind that Troy being undercover in SR1 got him a promotion in the still water police.

This was great seeing this play-through, Professional. I completely missed out on this game because I purchased my 360 when Halo 3 launched and by the time Saint's Row 2 hit, I didn't even pay attention.
Glad to have seen the main story finally and it made me buy Saint's Row 2 on Steam (was on sale for $2.49 so good deal). Claiming that game is your favorite of all, even more than GTA games is a huge statement and I look forward to playing it, then watching your play-through and lore/analysis videos as they are your best work.
I did not expect this ending either when I bought this game after you started your playthrough. At first, I skipped the cutscene because I was just trying to finish the game, but then it backed me out to the main menu. I was like, "Did my game just crash?" So I went back into my save and actually watched the cutscene, only to see the explosion and the credits rolling lol

Well Pro, here is another walkthrough that you completed, congrats! I'm looking forward to Saints Row 2. and in my opinion, Saints Row the Third was actually fine, Killbane, Cyrus, Loren were all well written antagonists. I agree that it is more wackier and less grounded in story telling, but its better than Saints Row IV though.
I hope that this game and Saints Row 2 both get remastered, they definitely deserve to be remastered.

Amazing playthrough Pro and lots of great info about Saints Row as well. I bought Saints Row when it came out but aside from a little free roam to get used to the game mechanics I never played it. Lol. Now I have a good handle of the missions so I can do it one day.

I feel bad for the people that lived in the Saints Row district , after the collapse of leadership within the Saints, the people of the Row were just forced into the Red Light and Apartments district which is why everyone in the west and southern parts of Stilwater everyone recognizes you immediately in SR2, also there’s way more people walking around and way more homeless and busyness as well as crime in the Shivington, Sunnyvale and Sommerset areas.

I watched the series of Saints Row 1 two times and now I get it how better was this game in 2000's era
The original saints row 2 was meant to be a prequel to the original Saints Row storyline. On how Julius and Bens friendship was growing up in Sunnyvale Gardens and while the Carnales was a growing threat, he and Ben form the Vice Kings to counter act against the Carnales. While they weaken the original Carnales led by Alejandro Lopez the father of Hector and Angelo. The Vice Kings would end up being too gang like that Julius decides to drop his flags and settle in Saints Row. At least by Saints Row 3, the saints row sequel to SR 1, could’ve made us understand Julius turned on the playa. Because he saw this happen again. Wanting to keep the neighborhood clean and gang free. Instead the saints did became the Vice Kings who wore purple instead.
But they change from a Prequel, to a Sequel, where you Survived the Boat Explosion.

6:16 when I played this mission (I already knew what happened cause I played saints row 2 first but didn't understand till I play SR1) I immediately knew it was Troy voice if u picked up on it good but my theory is that Troy knew about Winslow corruption and was conflicted about who to side with (this is cause of him downing bottles and looking hammered) so he called the saints knowing they would do something to save Julius and take out Winslow but that's my head cannon and theory I may be wrong who knows

Fun Fact: Julius wasn’t supposed a potential culprit at all. But some lazy animators changed the ending. Julius was actually supposed to be shown running down an alleyway, bloodied and beaten, fighting for his life. If you look back at the cutscene, Julius isn’t even wearing a watch when he walks away.
Troy, Ben King, Luz, Donnie, and Aisha were supposed to be the potential culprits for planting the bomb on the yacht. And who did it was supposed to be revealed in Saints Row 3. Yep. Saints Row 3. Saints Row 2 was originally going to be a prequel to Saints Row following Julius and Ben forming the Vice Kings and, eventually, The 3rd Street Saints. Saints Row 3 was going to be a direct sequel to Saints Row that started with the Playa emerging from the water after the explosion.
I was not expecting that as a person that never played this game

Congrats on beating this game pro. Definitely a good game especially for its time. Sucks you couldn’t play the music especially since the radio reports what you did in missions and there was even a report on the yacht explosion if you stayed on the credits for a bit. Excited for saints row 2

Really enjoyed the playthrough. I might give this game a try if I get some time. I tend to agree that the VKs are my favorite rival gang in this game. And I gotta give best crib to Los Carnales. While I prefer the aesthetic of the Roller's crib, Los Carnales takes it because they have a hot tub.

The whole story for SR1 changed 'cause the mocap directors were too lazy to add Julius running all bloodied in an alleyway.As described by the SR developers in SR2 Anniversary,they were pretty shocked to find out that their mocap directors messed up.SR2 was supposed to be a prequel to SR1 and SR3 was about killing those who attempted to kill you in that boat explosion buuuut thanks to some idiots we couldn't have some nice things and Volition was not great either.Not only they ditched the whole original story when they could still save it but they also listened to the ''Haha GTA clone'' part and made the title something else in 3 and 4(I can't consider them canon,none of them.I pretend they don't exist).We could have had Saints Row 1 port for pc but they thought that 3 needed to be remastered the most.We could have had that prequel but Volition thought rebooting the series with new characters no one asked for was a better idea.You can't have Saints Row without the OGs.
