Great 👍 video!!! I am an inspiring PMHNP and enjoy your information. They are very informative and helpful in so many ways. Can you also make videos on how you handled advanced pharm, patho, and other classes. While working and being an awesome nurse!! Thanks 😊 enjoy your day.
Hi Lakisha. Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you have found this helpful. Thank you for your suggestion. I can definitely plan to discuss this at some point in the near future. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you in the meantime. I wish you the best on your journey!
This was a great video! Very informative especially for an aspiring student who’s looking to become a PMHNP. I also, had a few questions. 1. How much/often (if any) do you actually provide talk therapy to patients or is this delegated to psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist? 2. What does a initial assessment and/or follow up appointment look like for pmhnp providers? And are you able to possibly do a mock assessment?
Hi Jayvon. Thank you for your comment. 1) It varies with psychotherapy- some practice it, others don't. It really depends of the facility and how they may be utilizing PMHNPs. In private practice, however, that would be up to you. If and when I do psychotherapy, it usually requires a 60-minute visit (at least). If you would be interested in psychotherapy, I would ask about preparation for this within the graduate program. All PMHNP programs do not put emphasis here. It's not uncommon to pursue additional training for psychotherapy once you graduate. 2) I will gladly do a mock initial assessment video. Please stay tuned for that soon. I hope this helps. I look forward to the connection. Please let me know what other questions come up. Camellia
I recommend 60 min follow up at minimum for adults, 90 minutes for children/adolescents. 30 minute follow-up I’d recommend but 20 minute at minimum for any population.
Hi Alex. Thank you for your comment here. I agree with you. We definitely need more time due to the nature of our appointments in psychiatry. It's just that this is not always possible in some organizations where you don't have full autonomy of such things. In private practice, this is possible. In public organizations (in most places), this is over double the amount of time allotted.
Thanks so much for your vids they have been very helpful. Quick question is there a demand for telepsych but doing it during overnight hours? What kind of opportunities are possible for overnight hours telepsych?
Hi Scott. Thanks for watching and for your question. I'm glad you've found content helpful thus far. Due to the telehealth platforms becoming more prevalent, there are a few telehealth platforms that operate outside of standard business hours. Additionally, if you become licensed in other states (usually required/strongly recommended for telepsych platforms), you can always "work" in states that are outside of your time zone. Essentially, this could offer you working "overnight" with some states based on where you are physically located. I'm unsure if this will meet what you are seeking, but this is definitely an option. I hope this helps? Please let me know if you have additional questions and stay tuned for more content. Thanks! -Camellia
