Wow! I had forgotten about Roadmaster! They were great! Who could forget Adam Smasher? The coolest DJ spinning the greatest rock songs on WNAP 93.1 "The Wrath of the Buzzard"!Man, those were the days! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Smash was a DJ but hands down the best DJ was the BoHoney Buster Bodine IMHO I would also like to thank those posting Roadmaster it brings back memories I just got back to Indy and took my wife ona tour of downtown. LOTS of changes.
They played at the D Chi house as both Pure Funk and Roadmaster for Little 500 in '76 and '77. I had t-shirts with both names. the Adam Smasher LOVES US! We were on 3rd st.and moved up to Jordan- there he was suddenly up on the roof of "The bombshelter" like the Beatles while a couple of bros did a double-inverted moon behind him. crazy! Too bad he wanted to switch to WFBQ- I think the wait from WNAP killed his career as a DJ. before that he was one of those IU campus legends
You shoulda seen Asher back in the day in '76 - Afro, wearing shorts and suspenders, driving a burgundy Austin Marina and rockin the Bluebird with this band. "For your general knowledge", it doesn't ever get better than this. Thanks for posting! Phyllis/LosAngeles
Do you remember the "Funk's Blast" parties in the parking lot behind Funky's Pizza King, 1971, 1972. Pure Funk playing plus other assorted guests. Asher with his huge afro. Good times!
Asaher...known him my whole life...are families are both from Greece..and my man could always sing...ELI'S COMIN..oh yeah!!!Pure Funk and Indiana Unicversity..he's always rocked..and we were counslers together at Kiwaca Camp..remember that Ash? TBJBA
Wow..Bin searching for this on MP3 for some time.Have the vinyl but it does'nt get better than seeing these guys 1st hand."Who can sing like fatboy do?" Thanx from Toronto!!
I believe this is the same Smash guy who became a D.J. at the St. Louis Missouri Radio Station KSHE 95. back in the 90's. I won a pair of front row and center seats for a Metallica Concert back in 1993 off of Smash for singing a Metallica song over the air on KSHE AT A CONCERT CLUB CALLED POPS! POPS WAS IN ILLINOIS AND LATER BURNED TO THE GROUND!
+Jim Grant Rex Cruea was my father. Even though it's years since he passed away and all this internet stuff like youtube wasn't really around, I still see his name brought up every now and then. Feels nice. :)
Yes I played in a around town band with your dad he was one of a kind one of the funniest guys I've ever known I knew your grandma and I know your dad's sister Cheryl we were in a band with two other members name David Anthony and Ernie cleaver your dad was a very very talented musician do you have any musical talent did your dad passed away from some type of dental operation I also remember your dad was in a band I can't remember the name but they opened up for kiss in Peru Indiana and 1975 I was there in the front row and I remember your dad I said someday I'm going to play in a band with that guy and I did I used to go to his house and pick him up take him to the liquor store and after the gig take him home when I could get him in the van when he would be drinking and he could be a little obnoxious to say the least but that was the Rockstar in him, he was Rockstar around Kokomo anyway you take care of yourself and it's a pleasure to know youy
Great news for all Roadmaster fans.!!!!!!!!!The Roadmaster Reunion show has been digitally remastered and is available on DVD. Send Toby Myers a Facebook message and he'll hook you up.
I was SHOCKED the 1st time I saw Roadmaster without The Mighty Atom Smasher. The minute he left the band they became white bread generic rock with no future. It was sad.
Wasn't this Adam Smasher a DJ on WNAP in 70's.? And if so didn't he get fired for commenting on a bus crash that killed many black high school students ... Saying they deserved to die because of their race..??
He got fired because he broke his contract with WNAP when KissFM - Kiss99 came to town. WNAP Sued, and won an injunction to keep him off the air for several years (memory is a little faded, but I think it was 7 years).
Can't say how much i use to love this band Just wish they had gotten the airplay they deserved

Found this concert on VHS many years ago at a local pawn shop. Still looks and sounds good!
this song is still a fav in Indy, my dad has jammed with many of these guys....
Toby Myers Your backing vocals are amazing!
Adam has such a B.T.O. vibe. Great back up vocals too.
Miss all you guys.
What a performance and what a charismatic frontman! Probably one of my favourite band introduction ever!
Ric was one of the nicest guys I've ever been in a band with.

Where's Bobby Johns, people?
Is Smash still in St. Louis? What happened to him?
Mark Rockledge I believe he moved to the Phoenix area.
