  • Our Director of Horticulture, Tony Gunroe, is back this Tuesday to introduce you to a plant that is so rare, it’s actually extinct in the wild. Listen as Tony explains the origins and current status of the Brighamia insignis, also known in Hawaii as the 'Olulu or Hawaiian palm.
Thanks to our team’s conservation efforts, we are able to provide a future for this endangered plant and help keep this species alive. Watch as Tony explains how we pollinate the Brighamia insignis with a tool typically used for artwork!
If you like working with rare plants like this one in your garden, contact us! We will be making some available to local growers soon. Join us in helping this rare species thrive locally!

How do you pollinate it, I know you do it with a brush bur how? Because after a lot of trial and error I have finally succeeded not only in keeping it alive but also having it to bloom, so I would like to pollinate it. 😍

it grows male and femail flowers so you need to wait for the male flower to covert into a female with pollen and then brush the pollen to a male flower.

It would be nice if there was a good video about how to do it, I finally succeeded in not only keeping them alive but also blooming last year. I tried to pollinate them with a brush but I don’t think I did it in the right way.

I'm trying the same thing, but my plants are not doing well. How did you manage to keep them alive?

Ciao ma questa pianta serve molta acqua perché a me muore sempre se mi puoi dare dei consigli in merito. Grazie
