Thank you Sally Ann Howe for bringing a smile to an 11 year old boys face who was living in hardship at the time. I didn't have much to smile about back then but i sure did smile watching that movie. I'm very sad hearing that the Lord has called you home. Rest In Peace dear lady.....
I didn't know she had passed. That's sad but she lived to 91 so I'd imagine that she lived a great life. Her portrayal of Truly Scrumptious made indelible impressions upon generations of children who grew up loving her and she will always shine there.
What a joyous and delightful interview, and the song at the end is magical. So sad Sally Ann has left us now, but she lived to 91 and radiated happiness and beauty to the end. I, like millions of others, was mesmerised as a child when CCBB first came out, I still love it. There are so many wonderful moments but it was the music box scene that really stayed with me, as a child I genuinely believed and was bewitched by it but so frightened they would be caught. Now as an adult I marvel at the costumes and set decoration of that scene. Sally Ann’s technical precision in playing the clockwork doll while turning and turning and singing in her beautiful voice is a truly brilliant performance. She more than nailed it.
I still think she was just as good as Julie Andrews but the thing is Julie Andrews was five years younger and unfortunately with Hollywood at that time liked them to be in their early to mid twenties and unfortunately she was passed that age. Besides, when Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was released the musicals were done due to being too costly for the studios. Julie Andrews had released a musical just before CCBB and it didn't do all that well. But Sally is all class and she really loved those kids in CCBB that she'd play games and tell stories to them. Plus, after filming was done, she gave her wardrobe lady a solid gold bracelet with the car on it.
@@austinpearce5442 Curious, I googled "Molly Julie" and could not find that name relating to an actress anywhere. Are you sure that's the correct spelling? Thanks :-)
When I was a young child I thought Truly Scrumptious was played by Julie Andrews and discovering that it wasn't was an eye opener. Sally is so remarkably talented and what a sweet woman!
Sally Ann-Howes has not lost a tiny bit of her great charming voice after half a century. Amazing lady! She and Dick van-Dyke are the kind of characters that genuinely make people happy without any calculation or trick. No wonder both remain so healthy and fine at their age.
I loved her in" A Little Night Music " at the New York State Opera in the early 1990's. And of course the origenal Sally Bowls in the London production of "Cabaret"
What comes across is the truly wholesome and happy life she's had. Her goodness is there in her appearance, personality, attitude. And she still sings. Fantastic.
My 5 year old and now 2 year old are beautifully mesmorized by this film and by the music box scene. I see my childhood through their eyes of joy. Thank you for such a timeless film. X
Sally was spot on in her part , elegantly beautiful well to do. The Doll scene is brilliant movie magic, again brought to colorful life by Sally. A high point of many good scenes. A movie of Dreams coming to fruition.
I adore HER! That film is one of my favorites! … I sing Truly Scrumptious to my dog Jack all the time! 😆… the doll scene is also my absolute favorite in the film. ❣️
Truly has always been on of my favorite characters of all time. She's stood the test of time and is everything young children can aspire to be like as adults.
The number of performers who can act, sing, or dance on the level of Sally Anne Howe is so rare, and she had all three skills mastered at such an exalted level. And she sounds like a beautiful soul as well! What an amazing lady.
A wonderful unassuming actress with a golden voice has left us. Who can forget Sally Ann Howes music box dance scene in chitty chitty bang bang. It was magical. She got it right in one take. Astonishing. Farewell Sally. Sleep well. 🌻🌻🌻⚘⚘⚘
Thanks for uploading this Cliff, people need to see tastefully done movies with drama , intrigue and charm that didn't glorify murder or sex. Classic film and Sally Ann is lovely and gracious at any age .
My sister and I would perform the music box scene for our Mom in our living room...costumes and all! Sure is nice to see her again!! She gave us many fond memories!!
I love Chity Chity Bang Bang. Sally Ann Howes seems very genuine and fun. I play a lot of the music from Chity Chity at bed time all the time. Thanks for sharing.
What a magnificent, elegant lady Ms. Howes is! So beautiful to this day--what a pity she didn't do more films, and a great shame there are so few recordings of her wonderful singing. The 'doll on a music box' number has been my favorite scene in a musical ever since I first saw it at the age of 5. In those days, there was no home video version available--Oh the anticipation, joy, and then sadness at the end of the song, knowing it would be another year before the next broadcast!

I loved that song she sang on the box as a mannequin doll who was singing and while the carousel turned. It was one of the most poignant songs for me. Love Sally Ann Howes in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang film.
I was so glad when this was finally released on Blu-ray. It was and is one of my favorite movies. Everyone in it is perfect for their role, especially that child catcher! How creepy! Even Benny Hill? Yes! Fun fact: Gert Fröbe, who plays Baron Bomburst, was in another Ian Fleming production: "007: Goldfinger" (he played Auric Goldfinger of course). His voice was dubbed in the 007 film because producers didn't think people could understand him, yet his voice is NOT dubbed in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and not only is he perfectly easy to understand but he even sounds just like his dubbed voice in "Goldfinger"!
What a delight to see this, thank you for uploading, Sally is a beauty that begins from within, what a sweet and warm person, Rosie seemed to have wonderful guests on her show- (Always a Rosie fan). Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was indeed one of my favorite movies as a kid and I now watch it on the same VHS they show in this clip with my own kids. Yes, we have an old VHS player. We just watched the whole film together for the first time a month ago and my son was gobsmacked. My daughter was a bit more wary and had to leave during the scary bits. I don't blame her. I have the soundtrack on vinyl and transferred it to CD and they listen to probably 5 days a week. As a kid I recall having the Corgi car of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, with the wings that folded out. I loved Sally Ann Howes so this clip was very nice to see.
