Blind Bartimaeus lived in the ancient Israeli city of Jericho all his life. He honored God and came to Jerusalem to worship. History is silent about when and how he became blind. Perhaps he used to be rich, but due to an accident he lost his sight, and with his sight he lost his entire fortune. He had a beloved faithful wife and a little daughter.
He had never seen her, but he wanted it so much and prayed for it.
And so, the beggar Bartimaeus sat by the road and attracted the attention of passers-by with the help of his cute trained dove, who performed various tricks and flights. People, looking at this, sometimes threw coins to Bartimaeus. In this way he earned his livelihood.
He also had a lamb as a guide. In those days there were no guide dogs, and a blind man could move around with the help of a lamb that led him. This lamb was the eyes of Bartimaeus.
One day, his daughter became mortally ill. Nothing could help her. Bartimaeus said in prayer: “God, I have nothing, I am a beggar. If You will only let my girl live, I promise You that I will sacrifice my dove tomorrow.” And God heard the prayer and healed his daughter.
After that, Bartimaeus' beloved wife had a heart attack and she, too, was on the verge of death. Bartimaeus pleaded again: “Lord, I have only one thing left, and that is my lamb. But if You'll just let my wife get well, I promise You that I'll sacrifice my lamb tomorrow."
The priest, to whom Bartimaeus gave his lamb, said: “You cannot do this, because this lamb is your eyes!”
He replied, "Oh high priest, I keep my promise to God, and He will provide a lamb for blind Bartimaeus." After this, Bartimaeus' wife was healed.
God provided a Lamb for the eyes of blind Bartimaeus - it was Jesus Christ who came to bring salvation and healing for those who would believe and trust Him.
My dear friend, that same Lamb is provided for you today. If you're a sinner and your eyes have never been opened to see the Light of God, that Lamb was sacrificed for you. If you're sick and dying, there's a Lamb for your sickness today. Go believing and be saved and healed, as Bartimaeus was.
