As a German trying to improve my English I started watching all the English free tv channels like channel 4, itv and all those. I noticed that at night there is only teleshopping, while on the German channels you can see reruns of movies, series and documentaries on almost all channels all night long until the next morning. Teleshopping is only on a few channels. My question is why in the UK channels are not also shown repeats. I find the difference really extreme as I am used to switch between at least 20 different movies or series and additionally a lot of documentaries even late at night on German free TV. Is it more common that Brits watch pay tv like Sky instead of free tv? Sorry if this question may sound stupid
Clips and full episodes are available online of most television programs at this point, reruns are no longer beneficial. It's the same in the US.
BBC and Channel 4 are publicly funded, so it's cheaper not to pay more licensing for a rerun. And yes, paid TV is very popular, Sky has a good market share and most people watch reruns online. I wish my German was as good as your English!
Our free view is terrible. You can buy slightly less worse tv from broadband companies as part of your overpriced package. Young people don’t watch tv at all. You can just watch tv clips from broadcasters online nowadays. Like so
Your English is better than most British people's. Seriously. We're a barely literate bunch.
Thank you for all the answers. I unfortunately still have problems with sentence formation / grammar and sometimes use a correction for longer sentences.
Starmer should look to Australian Labor PM Anthony Albanese on how to win. Be authentic, demonstrate that character actually matters, push back against special interests, have a plan.
Starmer has no chance then! 😂
I agree that Albanese was far better than the alternative at the last election but he does have that worrying characteristic of Australian Labor Party leaders of the past 40 years of barely having adult work experience outside of politics or trade unions. Best of luck to him but the ALP does tend to eat its leaders.
Albanese doesn't push against special interests, he's trying to force through the biggest special interest policy possible in Aus by creating an additional bite of the political cherry for one race group above all others - even though that race group is already represented in Parliament by more Senators per head than any other race.
That would entail showing his personality, which he has none. That would also entail funding his run himself so he isn't held captive to donators wishes, which he can't because he's not going to spend his own money & even if he was going to he isn't rich enough to gamble taking that loss. He doesn't have a plan he has said nothing of note & I feel like he's maybe just after the top job because there's a pot of gold waiting for whoever gets the job with £100,000 ex prime ministers receive for the rest of their life.

When did the Buddha get a RUclips account? lol
We live under the yoke of a regime which appears to consider us - the British people - a mere obstacle, and a bitterly resented one at that. This regime will allow us no more opportunity for hope, comfort or fulfilment in our lives, than is necessary to keep us from mass disobedience while they manage us out of existence as an identifiable people.
Ewe, the dirty corrupt and compromised BBC propagandists following the agenda and ‘reading their lines’ like they always do.
Remember when MSM actually had real journalists reporting real news that was relevant to the people watching it ? How is this latest distraction gonna help millions of people struggling to survive with the current cost of living crisis ? People losing their homes left right and centre, delving into their hard earned savings (if you have any) just to survive?
You should be reporting on how compromised, corrupt global governments and it’s placed WEF graduate political leaders are being controlled by the WEF - representing corporate interests and NOT THEIR OWN PEOPLE !, They have made BILLIONS over the last 4/5 years using the plandemic to initiate the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the upper class elitists. Tell us all how the banking-corporate system profited and still thrive to this day by the purposeful ‘essential only’ rhetoric during lockdown that destroyed millions of small and family businesses globally ? How big tech, big Pharma, MSM are the tools of the elitist system controlled to pump out absolute nonsense that is just meaningless white noise distraction so people can’t realise what’s been done and still being done ? Meanwhile we all suffer. But hey everyone; great news: Prince Harry did an interview and there is a war in the Ukraine. Great work BBC, you really are in touch with the country. 😢😮😡🤬👏🏼👏🏼
Remember. If it’s not good for the Conservatives, it’s good for you!
Remember if its yet another neoliberal government it wont be good for you because you are not a billionaire.
It feels like Labour just randomly picked someone out of their head office for leader and Starmer is the result, Sunak and him are equally limp leaders.
He’s always waiting for a focus group to tell him what he thinks.

WEF KNEELING CLOWN
I think criticising a lack of personality is a bit unfair; he was a prosecutor, not an actor. He needed to be straight-faced and professional, not charismatic and flamboyant. Give him a chance. Tony Blair could be said to have had charisma and he was/is an awful human. Similarly, Boris Johnson could be said to be flamboyant and he wasn't a popular PM.
Kier's speech was good (good speech writers are crucial). I do hope he can prove the HOWs, rather than just state the WHATs, as the speech promised.
It's hard to believe in politics and politicians. Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister are just as relevant now as they ever were. But I'm willing to give Kier a chance. I like him just for being a Remainer, for starters. Let's see how the full campaign goes. One thing's for certain: Tories 100% DO NOT get my vote.
Ah Sir Ken Starmer that man who let Jimmy Savile off the hook. No wonder the BBC likes him.

Who cares. Boris Johnson had charisma, wouldn't it be nice to have a prime minister who wasn't a f##king game show host.
The leaders of all the main parties are almost politically identical centrist politicians. If the Conservatives had a conservative leader and the Labour Party had a socialist leader and the Greens and the Lib Dems had Centrist leaders then it might make it worthwhile voting. People often say that they're all the same and I think the main reason for that is because they're all the same.

@@DarrenJamiesonJamieson I'm not distracted - gfy!
The electorate looking towards Labour has more to do with being fed up with the Tories and Labour being the only alternative. However, Starmer being more moderate, even more 'normal' and approachable than Corbyn has helped not to deflect potential voters away. However, whilst I can't wait for the Conservative & Unionist Party to be kicked out of government, I still find that Labour are not instilling any confidence or enthusiasm in me or some others. The general mood simply seems to be, 'whatever, get the Tories out!'. Understandably so, of course.
