I just picked up an AHM MoPac BL2 today, this video should help me correct issues that might come up. thanks for making all of these repair/restoration videos, you’ve helped me get some of my dad’s old HO locomotives running again, and for that I am eternally grateful.
IIRC AHM put out the BL2 in all the roads that owned them( had the C&EI one) making that rare case of having only prototypically correct roads offered rather than a couple of " fantasy" roads offered.
SMT - I recall seeing an AHM Western Maryland BL-2 in my hometown Woolworths store back in the mid 1970s. I think it was priced at $ 7.98. That was a " cold " solder joint; the rosin core flux will clean metal oxides off the wire & lug to make a good solder joint! The rear hood has sides that taper inward to give the train crew a better view in that direction. " BL " stands for " Branch Line ". The Kadee Conversion List in my Walther's catalog recommends #5, #58, & #148 for the AHM EMD BL-2 locomotive.
The Winter issue of Classic Trains magazine shows a Rock Island BL-2 on the point of a streamlined passenger train at Colorado Springs in 1951. The BL-2 is leaving with the Colorado Springs section of the Rocky Mountain Rocket to Limon, Colorado; where it will combine with the Denver section of the Rocky Mountain Rocket, and continue on to Chicago.
This vid helped me with my train because the wheels popped out on the tender and when I popped them in it would act weird on the track so I flipped the wheels and it worked Thanks
Super. I like the BL-2 locomotives, but even after the super nice Life-Like model came out, I still didn't get one for my railroad. Good job with the new parts and getting it going. 💙 T.E.N.
Another sleeping locomotive brought back to life. The real world #82 is well known where I reside in Maryland. I believe it may still be active in West Virginia sometimes teamed up with a couple different road number Western Maryland FP7A’s. BL2 #81 is at the B&O railroad museum Nice restoration of an iconic locomotive Harrison 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Oh wow it is a rare BL2 With the Brass Gearing Assembly, MPL Used to have a brass gear drive yet it was missing one major section, that being the main contactor plate so it never ran with that chassis , now it runs with the trashy plastic chassis, BTW I think the Brass Gearing Assembly was done by Rivarossi, i have to find another one day
Very nice, yet odd BL2 diesel, Harrison. You'll have another AHM Tempo BL2 soon enough, but a different road name and obviously different color scheme. Didn't fit in the first parcel. I believe you could assemble/repair any locomotive in your sleep after seeing this video. 😲 Great job! 👍👍👍
It was EMD's first attempt at a road Switcher. Originally they didn't want to make roads which was but once Alco had success with them they changed their tune.
I think the Western Maryland Railway had one or two of them things I think they did because I either read about that in a web page I don't know if it's true
Box man 134 you can convert Athearn blue box engines and put a decoder in them there is enough how-to videos on them around on my channel for Tyco and Life-Like I hope we can probably need to change motor completely chassis with some modifications.
I dont see a difference in appearence, i see, you, and ur personality more then the looks Edit 1, i didnt know until u pointed it out, and i cant see whats wrong even by looking, i cant see the problem, i only see u,
Harrison, hoseeker.net/ is a website that has links to almost all vintage HO train literature and they’re an excellent source for the original diagrams for locomotives.
Only SMT could restore a locomotive with dilated eyes
You said it

great restoration SMT you always find the source of problems when they occur
Was gonna ask why it seemed to lack wheels - Very neat and unusual locomotive, definitely something different from other EMD models!
It was EMD's first attempt at a road Switcher. Originally they didn't want to make roads which was but once Alco had success with them they changed their tune.
Love it. Good job.
Thank you!
When are you gonna announce who won the giveaway?
I’ve been in the cab of WM 82
The BL2s are one of my favourite engines.
What a beautiful engine!
Don’t you just hate it when school gets in the way of a good, new SMT video? Yeah, me too. Any how great video Harrison!
Learning a lot about repairing locomotives....thanks for the information
Seems like a smooth runner.
She purrs like a kitten. Nice job.
The town this loco was built in was pretty, when it was just a bitty kitty, wearing little mitties
@@SMTMainline If the BL-2 " Purrs like a kitten ", you could consider making a video of Nerf Cat's reaction to the sound.
wowoo
Very nice! That’s an interesting locomotive looks like it runs decent though
If you ever do a chessie system themed thing like I did, you can put that loco on there because WM and chessie system merged
It kind of reminds me of the British class 37 diesel.
Kinda I think it looks more like a backwards shunter
*ending line had me laughing.... lol cant believe how smooth that thing runs. and for a 1$??? thats like .75 cents american!
It sounds like it runs good
Thanks for a great looking BL-2=================W M is my 2nd favorite road name
Nice running engine for a buck! Cant beat that!!
Total success again.
You should super detail one of your locomotives to where it looks like the prototype
well foks into days video you all ways start with those words cool restoration
Pls restore the B&O switcher next
Another Restore Down in the books, another runner to run in ur live streams good work SMT
ah yes my hometown railroad

Nice BL-2
Trainz!

Yay
I think the Western Maryland Railway had one or two of them things I think they did because I either read about that in a web page I don't know if it's true
You should try to put a nice high quality motor in an old engine or something and put a decoder in it.
Box man 134 you can convert Athearn blue box engines and put a decoder in them there is enough how-to videos on them around on my channel for Tyco and Life-Like I hope we can probably need to change motor completely chassis with some modifications.
I don't know what to comment so guess I will comment this 🐢
Oh lord he coming 🐢
🛹
Can you please do a video on COPPA? Im worried it'll hit you hard and it might be the end of RUclips. This issue needs more attention.
Where'd you get the oil bottle at
Hobby house ltd, you can probably find it online or at other hobby shops though.
