i feel like a lot of people hear young teen artists’ music and make fun of it for being angsty and immature, but it’s refreshing to see someone appreciating the music for what it is instead of teasing it. Love the review, makes me want to re-listen to the album!
It should be taken at face value! I don’t understand why people make fun of it or dismiss it for those reasons, it’s still her art and how she was feeling at that time in her life
I honestly love how genuine Olivia's music is. She doesn't try to make it more deeper or philosophical than necessary. It's great songs to listen to when you just want to vent the ugly emotions. People critized the album as being immature, and i'd argue that was the point. We all feel petty and other negative feelings. The difference is that we act like we don't and she's out here bearing it out
every time i hear sour i immediately understand why it holds all the records it does or how it won three grammys. i like that you appreciated not only her lyrics and vocals but also dan's production. i think they work well as a team and i'm glad she produced her sophomore album with the same producer. sour was v much the product of olivia's talent with dan's genius and just how well they get each other, and i think this shines even more on guts
It definitely deserves all the awards it got! the production is top tier, i was hoping guts would be similar in its production so that’s good to hear she has the same producer on there, now I’m excited to see how they further grew their sound together! both of them are so talented
this album got me through the toughest part of my life. I truly don’t think i’d be here today if it weren’t for Olivia’s amazing vulnerability and songwriting that she was able to put into such incredible music. It’s like she knows how I feel and is able to put exactly how I feel into words even when I can’t. Same goes for guts too, her song ‘the grudge’ literally described what i’ve been through down to the DATE. it feels like she put a camera in my room and has entered my mind and dug up all of my most intense, deep, emotional, vulnerable feelings and put them into song format. I owe her everything ❤️❤️
It’s so amazing how music is able to do so much for us in that sense, and we can all connect and relate to it someway, and find some kind of comfort, there are just so many artists like that for me as well and I’m just so glad she was able to get you through that time, such a beautiful thing
Loved the video and looking forward to the guts reaction! Dunno if you’re familiar with Maisie Peters but you should check out her recent album The Good Witch (deluxe edition is available too)! She has excellent production, vocals, and lyrics imo
I have also just gone down the o rod rabbit hole and I can tell you that she really is an amazing artist. Tbh ive never been into her style of music but for some reason her songs have really hit different. I never listen to the radio so I didnt realize how overplayed a lot of songs are, so my reaction was like how is not everyone talking about her. turns out they are lol, still she is a real one. P.S check the latest olivia rodrigo tiny desk concert
I definitely wanna check that tiny desk out after guts! Yeah she definitely became the most talked about artist in the last 2-3 years but i see now it’s for good reason
ATTENTION OLIVIA FANS!!!!!!!!!!!! Olivia's birthday is coming up next month on February 20th and i think it would be really nice if we all streamed Sour and Guts on her birthday as a present, like what the Swifties for Taylor's birthday! Please copy this message and spread it around!
It’s silly to me when people they say they don’t like Olivia Rodrigo because her music is immature. Shes 19 and writing about teen romance/heartbreak, ofc it’s gonna be immature.
Gotta listen to Joshua Bassett that’s her ex that most of the album is about. He is a great singer and says his side of the story. I recommend his ep crisis/secret/set me free!❤
Oh damn it’s not often that you get to hear the ex tell their side of their story with their own music, at least I don’t think LOL that’ll be very interesting to check out as well!
Those songs were written by Joshua way way before her relationship with Olivia, its on his instgram and tiktok before, so don’t believe these stans who are crazy creating fake narratives. :)
@@LeilaDiannePearson ah I see, I guess the time it was released created some confusion and people may have just applied it to his recent break up at that time
idk how to say it but as a heads up for when you listen to GUTS its like matured Sour. She wrote Sour throughout 17 as said in Brutal when she said she's sick of 17. Then GUTS takes place being 19. In a way the two albums reflect each other I feel. Sour started with stuff like hatred of being 17 and not being the typical teenage dream teenager who's hot and has bfs and gfs and goes out every night but GUTS is kind of a realization on how stupid you sound and how much sassiness comes with the age of 19 bc of how sickening the teenage years were for those who aren't like "I love being a teenager 😍". So when you listen to GUTS track 1 is basically a funnier version of mocking yourself and telling yourself your hot and perfect unlike how Brutal is a insecurity song.
Thank you so much ❤ I’m already so excited to listen to guts and see her progression from the last 2 years and how her sound matured! that sounds like an amazing contrast

Agreed, those people completely missed the point, this was like looking into her diary
Dan Nigro produced SOUR and GUTS! His daughter is even on the last song on GUTS, ‘teenage dream’
Big props!! That’s so cool and sweet he was able to get his daughter to be apart of it too ❤
@neverxwas He also produces for Chappell Roan and Conan Gray, who you should also definitely do deep dives on.
