I was so confused by how she decided to start and end the album because they had almost nothing to do with breakups but then I thought about it. I took “hope ur ok” as two people that she knows that were in her life that had to make it through really hard, terrible, traumatic situations. She’s in pain so she’s empathizing with how they must have felt and finding solace in them and their strength with situations worse than heartbreak. The line when she says “addressed the letters to the holes in my butterfly wings” meaning she’s thinking about all of these people in her life that she’s singing about and what they’ve gone through and realizing if they can make it through so can she and she’s using that to heal from her heartbreak because butterflies can’t fly with holes in their wings. The rest of the verse after she says the butterfly part is kind of saying that nothing is forever as in as time goes on your situation changes (like her friend going to college) and you can feel better again. Even when the monsters (like the boy who hurt her and both of her friends’ parents) creep into your life and it’s hard to close the doors (get them out of your life/cut them off) that you have her support and love. Probably a little bit of love and support from herself to herself as well. Idk just my two cents 😅

And his parents were more so focused on the bible rather than caring about their son (I don’t know whether that could be an lgbt reference or not) and then the girl Olivia was talking about was lgbt and her “parents hated who she loved” and she had to take care of her own brothers because her parents wouldn’t. When I listened to “favorite crime” for the first time the first thought that came to mind was how Olivia was underage throughout her relationship. A relationship with a guy who was an adult and how that could have been the physical crime that they committed together.

hope ur okay personally fits so well! some people said that it didn’t make sense with the album. i am going to do a run down. brutal is an amazing start to the album. its the initial reaction to a breakup. you cry and cry and cry and people around you tell you that you are still young and you have a longer life to live and to enjoy your youth. she was so sick of it that she let out her anger on that topic and because she was so angry she continued to talk about everything on her chest like parallel parking. traitor is (to me at least) an amazing song to follow. she is basically reminiscing everything in the relationship that happened. she is realizing all of the lies he told her and how unfaithful he was to her. driver’s license was something that brought up the situation to her. something as small as a driver’s license reminded her of him. she is talking about she doesn’t understand how he looks so fine while she can’t even get her driver’s license without thinking about him. 1 step forward and 3 steps back. it’s a toxic relationship. when you are in a toxic relationship you don’t want to let it go because you put so much effort in keeping the relationship going that you don’t realize that it is falling apart. ‘and I’d leave you but the rollercoasters all i’ve ever had’ she is so used to it that she feels like it would be hell if they weren’t together. deja vu is I thought the line in hope ur ok was about self harm (from all the ways his parents mistreated him) since that's what "wearing long sleeves" normally means/ is interpreted as. The way everyone here sees it totally makes sense, I just see it from that standpoint. I don't think it only has to have one meaning. every lyric means how it means to you. everyone experiences life in different ways.

I love the reaction but it’s sad that people correlate all of her songs back to Josh and everything that happened solely due to the timing of the album. A few of her songs were actually written last year or few years ago, and had nothing to do with the drama.
So, from personal experience, I’m assuming the boy wore long-sleeves because of self-harm. I always knew when they’d done something because of their long-sleeves, especially in warm Florida weather. It may be abuse, but it seems to me like it was just a lot of pressure and oppression from his religious parents that pushed him into a corner of self-loathing, and helplessness. Especially his dad possibly drilling hyper-masculine ideas and telling him basically not to be everything he is. So, he harmed himself. It broke my heart when I realized the pattern in my high school best friend. It’s devastating. Also, when she says he had eyes of salt, she means that he was severely depressed, and he would cry often with her because of his situation. Salty tears, or even the crust left after crying. Such a beautiful song.

Because of the majority of the album being about heartbreak I think the line“I hate envy song I write” is talking about all the pain she had to go through to write them. I haven’t finished your reaction to hope your ok yet lol but from what I got from it is in the beginning of the song the boy was either being abused by his dad or his dad wasn’t a good one and maybe he was hurting himself? And his parents were more so focused on the bible rather than caring about their son (I don’t know whether that could be an lgbt reference or not) and then the girl Olivia was talking about was lgbt and her “parents hated who she loved” and she had to take care of her own brothers because her parents wouldn’t. So the song in my opinion is about her looking back at people she knew that she doesn’t talk to anymore and hoping that they’re in a better place, but I also think that the last verse and the reason why she put this song last is to kind of check in on her fans and people listening. So for everyone listening to the album and are about to finish it she’s just checking in on them all and making sure that they’re okay ❤️ kind of like a virtual hug 🥺

When I listened to “favorite crime” for the first time the first thought that came to mind was how Olivia was underage throughout her relationship. A relationship with a guy who was an adult and how that could have been the physical crime that they committed together.
these two keep me entertained and interested of what they think and say about her songs and vocals. she is a unique and i would say different than other singers. she understands our generation of youth and one thing that i love about her is that she not repetitive about basic words in like most singer’s songs like “ i love you and i miss you” type of words.

hope ur okay personally fits so well! some people said that it didn’t make sense with the album. i am going to do a run down.
brutal is an amazing start to the album. its the initial reaction to a breakup. you cry and cry and cry and people around you tell you that you are still young and you have a longer life to live and to enjoy your youth. she was so sick of it that she let out her anger on that topic and because she was so angry she continued to talk about everything on her chest like parallel parking.
traitor is (to me at least) an amazing song to follow. she is basically reminiscing everything in the relationship that happened. she is realizing all of the lies he told her and how unfaithful he was to her.
driver’s license was something that brought up the situation to her. something as small as a driver’s license reminded her of him. she is talking about she doesn’t understand how he looks so fine while she can’t even get her driver’s license without thinking about him.
1 step forward and 3 steps back. it’s a toxic relationship. when you are in a toxic relationship you don’t want to let it go because you put so much effort in keeping the relationship going that you don’t realize that it is falling apart. ‘and I’d leave you but the rollercoasters all i’ve ever had’ she is so used to it that she feels like it would be hell if they weren’t together.
deja vu is basics about being petty. she sees the relationship that he has with the other girl and she can’t help but compare how similar it is to theirs. it’s almost as if she convinced herself that he isn’t over her or he doesn’t want to leave the cycle that they had so he is doing it with a new girl.
good 4 you is just all of that rage from the betrayal, people comment, heartbreak, the things that they did that he does with the other girl is finally coming out. she was so over the fact that he is doing perfectly fine while she is crying in her bathroom. she is tired of the fact that he is completely ignoring the fact that he broke her. ‘maybe i’m too emotional but your apathy’s like a wound in salt’ she is taking about hoe she maybe taking this breakup to heart but she isn’t justifying it. she is saying maybe i am too dramatic but the apathy you give to me is one of the reasons why.
enough for you is talking about all of the things that she changed for him. she changed so much to satisfy him but he didn’t give the same love. the only thing she wanted was to be with him and for him to live her with the same amount. but there is also the realization of self worth. she realizes that she may not be “enough” for him but there is someone out there who thinks she is more then enough.
happier is kind of like acceptance. she is accepting the fact that he moved on but she won’t accept that he has a chance to be happier with the other girl then he was with her. she wants him to be happy with someone but she doesn’t want to feel like she could never compare to the new girl because she could be better and make him happier.
jealousy, jealousy kind of gives me the after math of the fame or popularity she has gotten. it’s like no matter what she does there is always people hating on her and saying stuff to her because of their jealousy. she wishes that she could be like the other girls who are also beautiful and are doing what they love without getting as much hate. but she knows that those jealous people are always going to follow her.
favorite crime is my favorite song. it’s kind of like she went through so much during that initial breakup. ‘one heart broke, four hands bloody’ like she knows that she is just as guilty in the relationship as he is because she kept it going as well. sh e tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but she ended up being the one heart broken.he stood there doe-eyed, which means he was acting innocent, as she was being buried in a hole and she watched it all happen. she watched as he left her with the broken parts of their relationship, which was the crime in the situation, while he is perfectly fine. she defended him to all of her friends. it’s like she left her friendships because she felt the need to keep the relationship going. this leads to the last song.
hope ur okay. this song to me talks about how she is reminiscing all of the things she did when she was in the relationship. she is thinking about the people she was friends with and how she let go of those friendships because she was going through that toxic relationship. now after she had accepted the relationship being over she realizes so much. she realizes that they went through so much more difficult stuff compared to her. the boy went through abuse from his father. his parents didn’t care about him because they cared more about the Bible.she hopes that he is doing okay knowing that she lost contact with him. she is addressing the people she knew, her friends, that went through so much and wants them to feel okay because she knows what they went through and she knows that the breakup wasn’t anything compared to them.

I kinda have a response for all the commenters. I thought the line in hope ur ok was about self harm (from all the ways his parents mistreated him) since that's what "wearing long sleeves" normally means/ is interpreted as. The way everyone here sees it totally makes sense, I just see it from that standpoint. I don't think it only has to have one meaning. every lyric means how it means to you. everyone experiences life in different ways.
In the song “Hope your ok”, the line that said “he wore long sleeves cuz of his dad” that wasn’t her saying that his dad was his biggest influence. It implied that he had to wear long sleeves because his dad was abusive.

So, from personal experience, I’m assuming the boy wore long-sleeves because of self-harm. I always knew when they’d done something because of their long-sleeves, especially in warm Florida weather. It may be abuse, but it seems to me like it was just a lot of pressure and oppression from his religious parents that pushed him into a corner of self-loathing, and helplessness. Especially his dad possibly drilling hyper-masculine ideas and telling him basically not to be everything he is. So, he harmed himself. It broke my heart when I realized the pattern in my high school best friend. It’s devastating. Also, when she says he had eyes of salt, she means that he was severely depressed, and he would cry often with her because of his situation. Salty tears, or even the crust left after crying. Such a beautiful song.
