Dude..... you MOVE mid-300 weight so much FASTER than I do and I bench 425. In fact you move 335-365 faster than MOST low-400 benchers. It’s insane how that doesn’t carry you over into the 400s. I know we’ve discussed this, but it’s STILL the craziest thing I’ve seen. Either way, fantastic assss benching brodie
This is 100 percent true today. I tied my dad for benchpress strength today. His max is 275, my max is also 275 as of today. I dont think he is very happy about it either.
Been currently working on my 3 plate bp and i feel so lucky to have my 2 favorite lifters Candito and Bugez simultaneously putting out bench vids with solid tips. Glad your back posting man!
I legit started watching you, then ran into your little bro at a random LA fitness in Cincinnati. We got to talking, and he was like oh hey you know Johnny Candito? I'm like yeah I watch his videos
Looking forward to the how u program video. Just feel like u do things just a bit different than others. Running your linear program on week 6 and loving it! Thanx for the content, good luck on the new goal!
When the camera gets close and he says 385 i think to myself.. if Johnny Candito isn't the most handsome man alive then who wants to live in a 🌎 like that anyway?
Amazing lifts Johnnie, thanks for all your programming. Once again wish you hit a touch and go of 405, I saw the strength was all there. Congrats on the PR, crazy that one day you will hit 405 competition pause soon
appreciate this video ... no one talks about this and it becomes norm .. to just bulk up eat ihop or a buffet take 3 shots pre workout and try to hit 405 the next day. ... this approach is wiser and smarter and leads to you putting on more sterngth in the long run. all the best jonnie!
Idk how this guy is so strong but looks like Sid from Ice Age. I know you don't have to be super jacked to be strong, but strength and size do go hand in hand and you're just fairly better at whichever one you prioritize.
Just goes to show how technical lifting can get, and the fact that just because you Plateau, doesn't mean that you will never again see great progress again. I probably went from 275 to a 315 bench faster than I went from a 225 to a 275
Always drug free, I have been at ~300lb plus bench since a junior in high school in the ~1988. Your very strong in comparison to your appearance. Amazing form arch in back. I have flat lined at ~360lb bench for multiple times in my on again and off again lifting. Life and motivation always gets in the way. Also I never followed a legit powerlifting routine, just lots of volume to failure to never peak correctly. Maybe I will try again to hit my dream of 405lb, but turning 50 next month....
Try to add push press for a few weeks, and keep doing strict press for higher reps. When you feel you are ready, train again heavy ohp. It should be easier to progress after that
How long have u been training for ohp and is it strict? I’m curious because I just hit it recently (u can check my RUclips to see what it looks like as a max effort pr lol)
Back when my gym closed I made a bench with a shallow hook fully adjustable rack and i couldn’t believe how much it helped versus the deep hooks the gym had. Subtle but made a huge difference in training
It's crazy that my bench progress has basically been exactly the same as Candito since I've started watching him. We both had a 325 max, and in the same amount of time we went from 325 to attempting 405. I'm gonna be attempting it soon. Current PR is 385, but I hit that a year ago.
Take it from me on 59 years old. I can't hit 405 anymore but I can go up to 385.What you need to do is put your elbows in or you're going to tear your rotator cuffs eventually. Lower the amount of weight but you will become stronger eventually and you will reach your goal by keeping your elbows out you are looking for shoulder trouble in the future you're young yet,and you will not feel the pain for another 10 to 20 years but it will come trust me
You need to grab a set of sandbags that are made to strap to a canopy tent pole off amazon. I got a set of 4 bags for $17, each one holds about 22 lbs of sand/dirt that i use to weigh down my equipment that isn't bolted onto the floor. That way your squat rack doesnt move crazy when you rack it. Oh yeah I had my mom do belt squats after i saw that video of you and your mom and she liked it btw lol. Keep it up Jon boi!
I do 275 for 5 I’ve learned not to always compare Myself to other people it’s not bad for me being 21 and only 170 pounds but 15 reps man that’s a lot keep it up!
Have you tried fat gripz bench as a variation? I find it to feel great for me. If you use the extreme model it adds a decent amount to the ROM, like a camber.
Jonnie what you think of using bands on bench with 5/3/1 style but modified. 3x5 5x3 7x1 And you wrap the bands twice around so pulls down double the tension . I have it at 80lbs resistance and I was thinking as I go up in weight 10lb after every cycle I’ll ease the tension once i start to slow down in weight . I’ve been running this cycle from 200lbs and up to 260s for triples paused still with 80lb tension . Hoping shoot close to my max (305 pause) with at least 40lb tension.
Damn, I am happy to see you alive, after the 405. Next time you will get it. Are you shredding? Not only the strength, but also your physique is getting better.
It's a win because Candito senior spotted.
Dad comes home from a long day at the courthouse to spot his son. Talk about wholesome!
He’s 28 and still lives at home though
Enzo Gorlami not too uncommon with traditional Italian families. You should know, I do!
JollyImpulse also very true. But, Candito isn’t Asian, he is Italian, which is why I posted it the way I did.

My dad’s dead
who else tryna bench 315 in 2021
Yeah son 270 touch and go 255 paused I'm getting close
@@Luke-id1cp Same here 270 atm. running his intermediate program and getting close
I’m tryna hit 225 by the end of this year
Trying to do it before then 280 paused last time I was pretty tired too. Just need to get amped up and train properly.
Hoping I'll finally hit it at least TNG this year, we'll see though.
its actually amazing just how good candito is at formulating and regulating his programming based on failed lifts.
Candito gym Dad with button up shirt has big modern day Tom Platz energy.

I find it helpful to bench my goal weight spread out over two lifts. Work smart not hard.
Big brain time.
is one of these lifts a bench press?
@@sherr1306 One, but the other one is a deadlift since I can lift more weight that way.
YT fitness doesn't deserve you, Jonnie.
Candito has reached a stage of lifting enlightenment

3:13 holy shit that kinda scared me.
Nailed the thumbnail. Didn't even have to watch the vid. All the information in there! Jk, love the editing!
Yes!! I love your take on why not to "chase" arbitrary numbers. A lot of people get stuck doing that. You'll be repping 405 soon, Johnny!
You are one weird guy. Everybody here loves it!!!
I swear this footage of Candito's failed 405 (knowing that he had it in him) haunts me at night
Thought you tore a pec! Scared the shit out me, bro!
ive never been so pumped to lift again after watching a RUclips video. I'm rethinking my own programming after today!!
Cool to see you here bro
Ole I only watch the best on RUclips😍
I watch these purely for the edits. The badass heavy lifts is just a bonus. Johnny is so funny and his programs have helped me tremendously

What you should do to bench press 405 is having a power rack with safety pins, that's what. Goddamn that scared me.
