Me too... that is why I am still doubtful of any announcement in May, but I keep hearing that Canon is having a big announcement from many sources... the theory is tested tomorrow...
I don't have any problems with your reasoning, but at this point it's hard to see how Canon isn't hurting itself with the quality of its security on this. Appreciate your efforts though.
I'm not overly excited either... everything fits for tomorrow and May 21, but the complete lack of any leaks has me doubting it.
With the utter lack of advance hype for these events, it seems Canon is playing them down. Maybe Canon is feeling insecure about customer reaction. Maybe the R5ii and R1 really aren't going to be the major upgrades from the R5 and R3 the customers have come to expect. In my less-than-humble opinion, if Canon were going to blow our socks off, they would have started the hype weeks ago. A last-minute notice tells me the announcements may be anti-climactic. On the other hand . . . maybe the 5/21 event is just the first round of hype for their July 9/10 announcement! (I'm sure you didn't read that here first.)

They could just start another set of discounts. Canon has been discounting the R5 for a bout a year now with discount changing from month to month.

We’ve got to make some important decisions here: 1. Do we take advantage of these Canon camera discounts or 2. Do we continue to wait for a R5 mark ii or R1 with minor improvements from previous models? The wait is killing me!

@@OrdinaryFilmmaker The R3 is a near perfect camera but it doesn’t shoot 8k 60 fps like the Nikon Z8 and any improvement as far as AI continuous autofocus and improved in camera stabilization would be worth waiting for me

I said it is possible, but not guaranteed. A few facts have come together to indicate a strong possibility.

I enjoy the community here as well. I always read all of the comments. It's interesting to get other takes. There are photographers who always think of things I don't think of.
I've lost a bit of faith in Canon lately as far as their products go. I have concerns with the RF 200-800 as there have been some focus issues that I've read about. Now I'm thinking that it may not be a good idea to buy the R5 II on release, if I could even get one, before the bugs are wroked out. We'll see.

I hope this shakes out some details today. If I have a live stream scheduled for tomorrow, then you know I am onto something, if not, it was just a good theory.
I had a few focus issues with the 200-800, but I've also had some issues with other lenses making me wonder if it isn't with the R5. Ive had issues with the 100-500 and 24-105. All in all, I do like the lens. But the 100-500 is easier to travel with.
When the bird is on medium distance, I rather have the feeling the 200-800 is actually less tempted to focus on the background compared to the 100-500. But for fireflies and butterflies the 100-500 is much better suited. And I was most certainly struggling with the 3.3m MFD when the baby foxes approached to within less than a meter from me, heheh. And due to the weight, my wife was much faster finding a Lark in the sky with her R7 + RF100-400 compared to my setup.
I really feel the 100-500 and 200-800 are nearly equally good, but the 100-500 wins when the subject is closer than about 10m, or you need to be flexible for closer flight shots. But for larger distances or the smallest bird, the 200-800 is a real joy to use. I'm just not sure I will often hike again all day with both of them on me 🙈 So I guess I'll pick the one most suited to the target(s) of the day.

I think the r6 mark III will come sooner than expected tho. It is crazy that the battery grip is discontinued while the R6 II is still being produced.
I'd be willing to bet the new grip will still fit the older models but have internal contacts for the new high power E6N+ batteries the new R5 is supposed to come with.
All new Canon 5 and 6 cameras will have a professional built in grip.

Do you know by any chance when the RF 10-20mm lenses will be available again? Inventory has been so bad.
The mistake Canon made was not releasing the cinema camera at NAB. Especially if it has full frame and SDI with improved autofocus and low light capability. That would have been the best time to introduce it highlighting those features. They confuse me. From a business stand point they’re basically being extremely secretive and it’s as if they’re saying “nothing special to see here”

I have an R6 and would love to upgrade to an R5 ii... However, have so many problems with the R6 overheating, the software for EOS Webcam utility and cannon camera connect. Even with paid versions... Then the R5 ii might be charging to use software in it?
Canon is NOT taking care of its loyal customers. They are not creating ground breaking new things for anyone and are producing things that do not work... If they try to charge for software, I will be switching away.
At this point, Canon has nothing to say that I am interested in. And I have probably ten thousand dollars worth of Canon equipment.
I'm more interested in the photo cameras

I foolishly bought an R6 Mark II brought it home and realized I could not shoot 4K 60 intra frame so I brought it back and I ended up putting the C70 on my credit card... I just know in my heart they are going to release an R5C too and I am going to be the saddest person. I had already traded in my GH5 and had spent $3,000 to buy the Canon R6 Mark II. I really felt pressured like I didn't want to waste the money and I needed a second body
May 16th Fujifilm Sydney Summit! Canon needs to have an event.
I am looking forward to what the events will entail, hopefully this is the start of canon bringing the heat in both stills, video and cinema again. Pioneering the way forward but who knows, they have a lot of catching up to do with the competition. It looks like they are starting to change things in terms of the rf mount, allowing sigma and tamron to produce apsc lenses is a big step, still hoping they also open up full frame sooner rather then later.

Slovenia for the initial announcements of these cameras makes no sense. Why would Canon do this?
With virtually no leaks at this time, I am beginning to think after the Olympics is more likely for the R5II. Sure hope I’m wrong. Canon is being frustrating to say the least.
You're seeing it the wrong way. Solenia has their own way of doing things. They are planning workshops / events with Canon Ambassadors. I do not expect the announcement of products at these events, but these events could indicate an announcement by Canon USA or Canon Global at the same time... that they are big backing onto the big announcement... It's happened before.

I understand the need to grow your subs and interacting helps for people to feel a part of the community. But you need to make yourself #1 from time to time. And that is ok to do.
I have been waiting for over a year. My husband who has been listening to me has no faith in canon rumors.
The last few years have been void of any reliable information. All we have are camera registrations and some events in Europe. Indicators yes, but lacking detail.

As I write this on Tuesday morning May 14 2024 at roughly 7:38AM US eastern time a Tweet showed up on the Canon Rumors Twitter feed about an hour ago that says Craig 'is mostly incapacitated'. Not good if true.
This has me feeling very sad. This has nothing to do with Canon's legal team. Craig has been working through some things as he has stated in previous interviews. I encourage anyone who has suffered with mental illness to reach out and talk to someone. It can feel very dark at times. I wish Craig all the best.

It's crazy. I've been excited for months, but now I'm pissed at Canon for this possible subscription model. I don't really care about this announcement as much.
Those "Canon ambassadors" annoy me. They sell their integrity in exchange for money and early access to the latest gear. We have a very unflattering word for people like that in Germany, which translates to "advertising w***e". The problem starts already when RUclipsrs get this kind of early access to products and are expected o give a positive review. Of course they can also write a negative review, but then they will no longer get that special access. They will no longer be flown to a product launch at the cost of the company. It is quite a dirty strategy. If you want to test the product before launch, you have to be nice to them.
Apple is known to have a strict policy: If your are too critical, you are out. That even happened to journalist by the large German magazine "Der Spiegel". Jared Polin was blacklisted by Nikon, because he was "too" negative about their cameras. I am glad about independent RUclipsrs like you, who are not yet bought by those companies. Once your channel will have a certain size though, they will also try it. I hope you will resist.
But tell us, skyscraper fan . . . if Canon offered YOU money and early access to the latest gear, would YOU take it? (I thought so. Me, too.)
He brings up a fair point. Are we sell outs working for the man? Teens and college students used to accuse us of betraying our principles in the 60s and 70s for working for the Man. While I don't work for Canon, I'm not free to say what I want either. I have a day job and because of this very public forum, I could make the company look bad and get fired.We might be free to speak our minds, but never free from the consequences... Being an Ambassador is a job like any other... just need to feel you are true to yourself for taking it.

As a principle I also give every RUclips video a dislike if it mentions a sponsor. It is very cringe if a RUclips creator explains why a certain VPN is so great, if you know that he gets money for that. If I hear "This video is brought to you by TrangleSpace" or something like that, II unsubscribe from a channel.

Some people say that they would only advertise products they like anyway. I think those people lie to themselves. There is a reason why gifts for public officials are illegal. In Germany anything worth more then €10 can get you into serious trouble. I am sure those Canon ambassadors will receive quite a lot more than that. So we should ignore what they have to say about the cameras.
You are aware that all ambassadors are usually long time users of canon before they become ambassadors? I was local canon ambassador, and before becoming one I have spend 50-70k€ on canon gear and I still use its after I stoped being an ambassador. Canon is very selective with their ambassadors and it is always people who really think all positive about the brand. Also if you are an ambassador, you get paid through contract so everything is legal, especially in Europe. Today there is no bad cameras so it is really easy to be objectively positive about any brand.

The last video from peter (promoting an all in one filter) shows he's using a canon and by all angle he was showing the camera he never revealed the model hes currently using. Definitely is the r5ii, else i dont understand why he was handling the camera the way he did to hide the model..

According to my source, there is some time. I almost got the answer of patience. For Canon R5 mark 2. But as you said, I think it will be announced on May 21.
Things do make sense, but again, I'm cautiously optimistic knowing that Canon could give these dates a complete miss.
