I wasn't just disappointed by the lack of Fallout content ( lets be honest they have been grossly mismanaging Fallout for years now. I felt the whole thing was a big nothing burger. Was there anything new or surprising in it at all?
Fallout aside, I felt it was a dull and really poorly laid out presentation. There were some games I was pleased to see some news on but there just wasn't a big moment or anything with a wow factor.
I think you were probably too optimistic. I was expecting as much as we got on Fallout and TES. Also TV and videogames are usually quite separate, so it was unlikely to appear. Hopefully some of this stuff will get announced later in the year.
This isn't really about what we expected. This is about what we hoped for, what we thought the fan base deserve and what had been rumoured and leaked for many months. And to some degree how badly managed most of the big name IPs have been by XGS for some time now.
@@FalloutPBC I get that but based on past experience, there's very little reason to expect that. I'm a huge fan of Fallout (part of the reason I'm subscribed to your channel) but I wasn't really expecting much. What I'd ideally liked to have happened was Fallout 5 gets announced, Fallout New Vegas 2, a potential spin off Fallout game set in another country, a trailer for the TV series, and maybe even an announcement for a Fallout Shelter sequel (to date, the ONLY mobile game I have ever enjoyed). Was I expecting any of this realistically? No. Maybe some of the stuff you mention will be announced later in the year though, which might be more realistic. I agree with you, they are MASSIVELY wasting these IPs. I just also think that Skyrim came out in 2011 and here we are 12 years later and still waiting, with 2026 looking optimistic... Granted, they rebuilt the engine, but that would put Fallout 5 in what? 2030? A depressing thought.
@@antiochus87 Yeah I totally agree. It's so weird to see big IPs going 10 to 15 years plus without a game. Especially in an era where other producers just rework the game in some cases yearly, or at least every 2 or 3 years. The thing I just don't get here is by the time BGS will get roung to Fallout 5 that new engine will be dated the hardware it was built to run on will almost certainly have moved on. Possibly a long way on. I just don't get the BGS strategy for Fallout. Perhaps they didn't care. Maybe they saw buying the Fallout IP as a stopgap from day one, perhaps Starfield was always Todd's grand plan. Maybe it will be all Starfield and TES from now on and they will be happy to just let the Fallout IP drift off to the other Xbox-owned studios. I share your love for Fallout Shelter too. A sequel to that would be most welcome. Perhaps they didn't want the announcement of the Obsidian Fallout game to take the shine from Starfield or maybe it was just too early. Maybe you are right and they will announce the Obsidian project, the next-gen upgrade release date and show the first tv trailer together at a later event.
@@FalloutPBC Yeah I don't understand their strategy either. I think the announcement about Fallout 4's next gen update is coming later this year though. I'm sure they must care, even for the purely selfish reason that to ignore Fallout is like leaving money on the table. TES will always remain Bethesda's favourite, and Starfield is Todd Howard's pet project, but even then they can't afford to ignore Fallout. But why won't Bethesda or Microsoft allow another studio to work on Fallout? Obsidian has plenty of projects of its own (but these seem to have been scaled down significantly). Maybe Bethesda maintains final say on this and is keeping it for themselves? Maybe Microsoft is spread too thin to assign resources to Fallout right now? Maybe there is something in the works and it's still too early. Fallout is a profitable and proven franchise (I loathe to think in such terms, but this is what drives business decisions). It has a guaranteed fanbase, it has a successful online game (I haven't personally played Fallout 76 for several reasons) so it is established. Companies prefer reliable wins to the risks of something new. It probably took Todd Howard this long to get the green light for Starfield, a new IP. But Microsoft would always prefer an established IP over something new and risky. It probably was that they didn't want to distract from Starfield at this event, but Fallout will return, the question is just when. BTW great work on your channel, keep up the good work👍 Hopefully we'll have more news soon.
I agree with just about everything said in the video, and I don't think you're being unreasonable. I hope your channel grows and succeeds, I wish you all the best.
Yes, it's part of the BGS logo but that is taken from the vault door. Plus the third dude I showed had a Vault-Tec jacket on! I think that's from Fallout right? Lol I all seriousness like I said in the video, it's most likely nothing but I do think it's odd they had any staff in Fallout gear.
Well, the new Bethesda engine gets its debut with Starfield but It's Elder Scrolls next then possibly Fallout after that. So they could be 8 to 10 years away from using it for a Fallout game. Obsidian are busy but they should still get their Fallout game out way before Bethesda. So I would guess the next Fallout game will run on whatever engine Avoved runs on.
As we said last week I was expecting much more. I'm shocked at how under used Fallout has been since Xbox took over Bethesda
Yeah, I find it astonishing they spent a colossal fortune to acquire these IPs and have done literally nothing with any of them.
