It’s actually a song from the musical production “Daens” about a socialist pastor fighting for worker’s rights. Ironically, many supporting cast members in this musical were not paid according to the collective labour agreement (cao)
Daens is not very socialist, his party was styled as the first christian democrat party and would later even merge with the Frontpartij that evolved into the VNV.
Sorry, mate... Beter look out up on Wikipedia : song tekst was written at the end of 19th century by Pierre De Geyter from Ghent, the music composed afterwards by French composer Rug Eugène Pottier. Greets! Eric Leftie
No, Belgium shoudn't be a nation. Flanders is already a Dutch speaking region, but Wallonia should keep it's own culture and identity and not adapt to the Dutch one.
@@lander681 I don't really agree honestly, Flemish and Walloons have lived in this same "Belgium" reigon for centuries, The problem is we've created more and more of a border that didn't even exist before over time instead of fixing issues like linguistic education in the country
@Qenwolf What do you mean by "same region"? Belgium exist because Flemish and Walloons live both in its borders? That isn't a logical argument at all. The border has always existed, its an language and cultural border. Belgium only exists in politics, but it has never been a nationstate. Its never been the home of one homogenous people, but its a country (not a nation) created by the Spannish and then oppressed by foreig powers and later seen as a needed bufferstate. After Napoleon terrorised us we got back with our once (not anymore because of religious assimilation of the Spannish and us living isolated from each other) fellow Dutch brothers. Things weren't perfect, but then French (maybe also non-French, but the revolution certainly didn't enjoy the support of a Flemish majority) caused the Belgian revolution. Today Flemish and Walloon people don't share papers, tv, celebs or any culture at all. I can't give you one name of a Walloon who influenced me. We never were a nation and we will never become one.

@@ericdemeester8621 Yes I know the Internationale is from 1800something but this particular arrangement was used in the afformentioned musical.
@robindemeyer8960 do note that the Flemish movement is rooted in socialism with figures such as Jacob Kats.
This version is very beautiful
Oh that's nice, never heard the Belgian Version of the Internationale

No, it's just the normal Dutch version of the Internationale but sung by Belgians. There's no seperate Flemish version.
