Great reviews of the Ranger and Rustler! Which one is better for an expert skier looking for easy turn initiation (tilt to initiate) at medium speed, shorter radius turns, great pop out of the turns but not too demanding/tiring in hardened bumps and tight trees? 🤔🙃 Thanks!
Hey man, great snapshot. Just wondering about Ranger 96 vs 102. I am 6.0 ft, 180 and ski fairly aggressively. I ski mostly in Ontario Canada at Blue Mountain. I do take 2-3 trips a year to other destinations that have mush higher elevation and larger terrain. Right now I ski a 173 86 Elan Wingman CTI. Stiff ski. It is great a carving, but I find it hard to get it off it's edge and smear and fool around on. It is a high performance ski, and I love it but it really just wants to carve. I was thinking of having the 102 as my wide ski that smears plays and carves and for the occasional smaller fresh snow days... or Sell the Elan's and get the 96 as the "one ski quiver" does the 96 play enough and smear enough vs the 102, or am I kidding myself by getting a wide ski like the 102 for eastern skiing. Some reviews really like how the 102 carves for a 102 underfoot, and I find in the chop and after lunch, I'm just to tired sometimes to be on the Elan driving it. I just want to chill a bit and smear and not go as fast. Help me man, I'm in a dilemma. Rustler 9 comes to mind, as does the Nordica Unlimited series. Can you give me some direction?
For sure! I’d run that 102 all day. No questions asked for an every day all mountain ski. It’s versatile, it’s fun, and holds an edge really well. That’s actually what I ski on 90% of the days. The rustler is also a really good option. That 102 is a blast though, that’d be my number 1 choice. I’d probably stay away from that unleashed, both other skis you mentioned are…better.
Great review- I’m looking at a ski for everyday in VT and looking at ranger 90 and 96… and the black crows Serpo. The Serpo and it’s metal shape seems to be very similar to the rangers and at 93 sits in between the two rangers. Do you have experience with the Serpo and any thoughts?
So, the serpo is great, it’s very directional and way less versatile though. If it’s a second pair of skis, totally into that one. The Ranger is just more energetic & playful while still having good edge hold, so ideal for us here in the east. I wouldn’t worry about the width at all between 93-96, but ski wise, the Ranger 96 > Ranger 90

The Ranger 96 comes in 159, 166, 173, 180 and 187. So when you say: "I am 6' and the 183 doesn't feel short" I'm not sure how to interpret that. Were you on the Ranger 96 in 180? Or were you on the Ranger 102 that does come in 183? You say that feels short, so I'm confused right now.
Sustainability in a ski is bullshit. It's marketing whoring. It's disgusting. And I love this ski. It's really a phenomenal ski, but some people in the Fishcer company need to have their heads examined. Hopefully that nonsense is contained to the marketing department.
