- Amazing example of the forgotten tradition of placing female idols (sheela-na-gigs) on churches, castles and wells - which seems to have been particularly popular during the Dark Ages as well as the Norman period but is believed to stem from the Celtic/Pagan times and is certainly shrouded in mystery.
Hello Milda, sorry I’m a bit late in seeing this. I was discussing with someone about the Christian appropriation of earlier religious traditions, and she mentioned the Green Man and Sheela na gig as examples. This brought me to your wonderful video. Thank you.
Always informative and entertaining... thanks.
Hi in your next video please can you make sure you put your new wellies on ok
Fascinating, I’d never heard of this before, although😅I did know that pagan traditions were incorporated Christian festivals such as at Christmas, Easter and harvest festival. I subscribed for the mine explorations, but this is equally as interesting and engaging, if somewhat different 😅
Thanks Bob, I love the early history, it never ceases to surprise 😀
Stunning.. Bruce goes to meet Sheela in Hereford? Pre-australian karma sutra maybe. Interesting figure next to na gig with the four eyes not watching. I seem to remember that Selenium red glazed ceramic tiles, like the ones gilding that apse were mentioned by HG Agrippa for use I think in a practice similar to remote viewing.. wonderful example of technology beautifully maintained Thx for sharing
Really enjoyed this 👍 keep forgetting that many people were illiterate in the past and all the symbolism in early times was so important. Have a safe and happy Christmas.

🤣
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I really enjoyed that video!
That's really cool, I'd never heard of Sheela na gig's before 👀 wow, beautiful church grotesques and stone art
A lot of them have been destroyed... you know, Victorian clergy not being able to stomach the idea 😅
Loving this, thank you~!
Well, that was very interesting and somewhat surprising. Thanks Milda. 😊
Thanks Mark, always good to be surprised!
So, a mature woman shows her vulva and all of humanity then goes into the Medieval Ages? 🤣😂
🤣
Heya Milda , hope you have a great Christmas and New year , really cool Sheela video, she is quite prolific in Eire but too many have been destroyed over here as being distasteful by ignorants! Thanks gorgeous all the best from Somerset x
Happy Christmas and New Year Simon and may the rest of Sheelas live on and bring us luck! 😁
@@MildaGoesWild You honestly can’t beat proper pagan beliefs Milda, looking forward to your next upload. See you soon xx

@Milda Goes Wild thank you Milda 🙂 have you got anymore slate mine videos coming up?
James
@@jameshymas3713 I don't have much slate mine stuff - think lost some footage when I drowned my phone but generally I prefer metal mines 😉
Despite being a horrible, heretical atheist, I still really appreciate and enjoy the architecture of old churches. Super fun and incredibly insightful video!
Regarding onomatopoeia; "Sheela-Na-Gig" sound very Lovecraftian and invokes imagery of some otherworldly eldritch creature.
Next time I go to visit an old church, I will certainly look up to see if I can find other fun grotesques.
Awesone video, Milda!
Ha, yeah! Sheela na gig... drawing atheists to church since the beginning of time 😏
