So this is definitely a Mandalorian reference. Just look at the spacesuit/helmet appearance, the name of the ship, the massive armory on board to store all your weapons, etc. Even the ship's Livery is the same Grey with yellow accents of the Razorcrest.
This is the way.
Fun thing with this, the Mantis is this universe’s vigilante hero so the ship acts kind of like the Silver Shroud costume from Fallout 4 where it will unlock unique dialog interactions. Not as in-depth as the SS but in dogfights with pirates some times they will freak out and comment about facing the Mantis.
It is not during the Kreet part of the quest, it is during the Nova Staryard section. Kreet NPCs don't drop it, the Spacer Punks do. They wear white spacesuits not the red pirate ones.
I'm standing at the ladder exiting the research base now and haven't found anything. What a waste of time. Thanks for posting this.

Aye, I just looted mine off a Spacer in the Staryard while on The Old Neighborhood quest.
It is any battle that you are fighting with Spacers. Search the spacers or pirates (or any non factioned enemy I assume) dead. I had gotten the note during my Kreet battle but died before I had made a save and must have missed looting a body after respawn. I got it randomly in another battle where I had answered a distress call.
Legend man :) got the Mantis and loving it... just leveled 8 while finishing that quest line. Some of the robots were tough but nothing a few medkits and lots of pistol ammo could deal with
kills lvl 14 and lvl 30 ennemies : " guys you can do this super early in the game!" XD

the hard part is just the dog robot wich a kited down the hall into a bunch of mines and it wasnt bad after that, i just did it at lvl 9
I just did this at level 8 its really not that difficult they just have more health/armor.
I just downloaded the game yesterday and plan to start playing today. This should help a lot once I get far enough into the game to take advantage of it. Thanks Z1!
I take all the things. Everything that isnt bolted down is mine. I read all the books in Bethesda games, because they usually give you special things, like perks, skills, quests, or exp. Sometimes they have secrets in the too.
Awesome, the main thing I got out of this was "Loot everything, Read the Notes" :D
I actually got these from Spacer's and took their ship (which was nearby) after killing them. So I got a new ship before actually doing the mission itself.

Just FYI, in case you didn't know, you can fast travel from indoors in this one so you can just fast travel back to your ship (if you weren't encumbered lol).
So the ship is cool and the spacesuit is good looking but I am not so much a fan of the helmet lol. That said I like the story potential - you find about this while in your initial system and then you get the new ship, which allows you to give the first ship back to the dude who lent it to you. Modifying this feels better to me.
Anyway, this was cool!

Lol I had no idea about the passphase I had Master code breaker really early, so I hacked the computer for the turrets, well the thing you learn. Love the outfit of mantis btw.
I went thru around 10 but I had a advance blade runner gun so I dusted the turrets ( all of them) and the robots. I never knew knew the password, I shot my way in, It is a good ship. =)
My mantis quest was not in that mission tree at all. I actually got the mantis quest during a totally different story quest.
Save before you claim the armor set if you don’t like the stats, you can just reload the save and farm for stats you want.

Does the mantis have different stats for each player because mine has mirror damage perks on them
its really great thanks for this vid, gives me a chance to do something else before i contiunue the second mission (got a bug on one part boarded the ship but cant fight there or move forward)
Is it me, or the Mantis is an actual, bona fide combat corvette, rather than the explorer unit you get at the start? Then again, given "mom"'s attitude, that wouldn't be surprising ("Sic semper tyrannis", i.e. "Tyrants always end this way", was what John Wilkins Booth said before killing president Lincoln).
She was probably an anarchist to psychotic levels. This would explain the unholy amount of turrets and warbots - but sadly her son didn't know, and ended up as red paste. As he said, "thank you, mom".

I do not know if anyone said this yet. But there seems to be a level restriction on this. Because at level 6 i can not find the note so i think you have to be level 10 at least

Lol you can actually get a free ship before this because you can literally steal anyone's ship. Was doing this mission where you have to kill the pirate captain and a ship landed near by so I ran up and jumped on board and killed the crew.
tried it later in the game with a much nicer ship and it required an expert digipick
those loot racks..... skyrim in space😆😅
I find the control UI to be extremely unintuitive and over complicated for such a simple game
