  • This time journey was for 13 days ⛵
    We caught 51 Fourfinger threadfin /Dahda ( *दाढा*) ,12 Gholfish /Maasa / Jewfish ( *मासा*),
    1 Vaam( *वाम*),1 Rawas ( *रावस*) ,5 Catfish/Shingala ( *शिगांळा*),10 Shark ( *मुशी*), 1 Stingray / Pakhat( *पाखट*)
I went fishing for the 3rd time now 😅 .
    Anyways
Let me introduce you to my Father, Mr. Sanjay Vasudev Chaudhari.
My father has been a fisherman for more than 40 years.
He knows a great deal about the sea and fishing. He exactly knows when to approach the sea, about the tides and so on. I turn to him instead of Google when it comes about fishing. Whenever I go fishing with him, I am thoroughly amazed about the skills he possesses. He is effortless at his work. 🙈I run out of words to describe how at ease he seems to be at sea.
We are a team of 12 people, including my workers, my dad and myself.
This red and green nets are specially made for vaam fish
    we called shehensha ( *शेहनशहा*) /Magrichi jaali ( *मगरीची जाळी*) , but sometimes other fishes like bombay duck ( *बोंबिल*), pomfret ( *पापलेट*) , Catfish etc, are caught too.
75 to 80 fishing nets are layed down in water twice a day.
The fishing net is attached to Ghata on one side. Ghata is a round stone made up of a mixture of cement, beach sand and water. The other end of the net is tied to thermocol, plastic drumb etc at the time of laying the net in the sea.
The process start with one person throwing the Ghata in the sea while the other tying the thermocol to the net at the same time.
A flag is attached to the net to identify and differentiate between others .
5 to 6 hours After laying down the fishing net, we withdraw the net with the help of a machine .
One person sees the collection of the fish in the net. He also guides the direction of boat in order to avoid the net getting stuck to the boat.
While withdrawing the net one person detaches the ghata ( *घाटा*) from the net.
The other is collecting the fishes.
    We caught vaam that day.
Vaam can stay alive without water for a long time.
The actual way to kill vaam is to hit with a wooden hammer we call it mogri.( *मोगरी*)
This makes the vaam fish unconscious for a while, which causes the death.
Vaam can easily escape and jump off the boat in the water if not killed.
After collecting all the caught fishes,
The fishing net is then removed and arranged.
While fishing we face a lots of difficulties.
Sometimes fishes tend to slip out of the fishing net.
In such an event one person gets in the water in order to secure the fish from escaping.
The collected fishes are then cleaned. The intestines and swin bladder/fish maw ( we called * बोत*) are removed from the fishes. The fishes are then kept in crushed ice. The ice is crushed with a wooden hammer. The wooden hammer is called mogari.
The fishes are kept in a square shape box and stored.
