Good advice, sales people hate dealing with me, haha, where is your boss!? Lol I went to a harley dealer the last day of the month for 3 months, sales manager said no twice, 3rd time cash in hand, pulled sales manager out on the floor , he said no again , I pulled the cash out, mentioned another dealer and headed for the door. Got my hand on the door and he called me back over, okay you got me. I looked him in the eye and said , I had you 3 months ago! Lol
I always try to shop the last week of the month...they all want their quotas filled by the 30th or 31st. If you walk away that gives them almost a week to feel the quota squeeze and call you back with a match or better than your offered price. Great idea to shop in the Fall during the Slow time for sales. You two are such a lovely couple and your way of presenting your adventures on the road are so nice. Thank you for all your hard work educating us. bill in Florida
GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO! #3 is a GREAT piece of advice :) As a RV Salesman I listen to people give their "Tips" and theyre wrong... but your right... Dealerships have to make a profit (BUT they dont need to make a killing) Also you want to start and have a good relationship with the dealership who will be fixing your RV When it breaks not IF it breaks :)
Wow, thanks for the validation Matt. We totally agree that a win - win scenario is vital along with building a good relationship with the dealership instead of an adversarial relationship. Thanks so much for the comment. 💙
@@MountainBeaches The one thing I will say is that this rule applies to your local dealership... Now if your buying out of state and you will never be back to that dealership.... Then... TAKE THEM FOR EVERYTHING THEY HAVE MUHAHAHAA!
Great video. One of my things when buying a unit is to buy in fall time frame, main season is over. New model year just like cars are coming in. Absolute be prepared, do research, know what you are looking for and most of all also be prepared to walk away. Also when negotiating, sales people hate silence. 15 years ago we purchased a 38ft 5th wheel, could not agree on price, walked away. Stopped in 3 days later and paid what we want with extras installed. In 2017 did the same for our current 5th wheel, first review walked away. Approx 4 weeks later purchased at our price. Safe travels!
I come from a family of horse traders, ok maybe horse thieves, and learned a lot. Never pay more than 25% off the MSRP but push toward 30%. If they ask about a trade-in simply say that you're negotiating the price of THIS unit and only negotiate price not payments. I tell them we're talking tax ,title, out the door price and won't pay any added fees.
These are great tips. I might add a tip 2-A to your research part and say: do your homework on dealers. Check out forums, read reviews, etc. There are many out there that are very reputable and looking to build customers for life. On the other hand, there are loads of others (that will remain nameless but I’m sure most people know the main culprit) who are just looking to rip you off. Another tip is read all the fine print on the contracts. That great low price you may have been enticed into initially quickly starts growing when options or mysterious dealer fees and add-ons suddenly appear. Awesome advice guys! Hope you’re enjoying your new rig!
We had previously purchased our first trailer from General RV in Draper Utah. In the last month we returned to look at two different Reflection 150 units. We decided on one that we fell in love with! They had the nerve to want to charge us a shipping fee and setup fee which equated to around $4000! They did waive the transport fee but not the setup fee! This is on top of the price of the rv that was more than the competition! We walked!
Don’t be afraid to walk away is best advise. I have taught my son to walk away and he gets it now. It works and the sales folks really have a heart attack when you just get up walk away nicely. 50% of the time they will give you what you asking for and even send out the pretty girl sales to hook you back in. Too funny. My son thinks it’s all funny and a game which it is and I play pretty good. His used college car we bought had the manager stumble down the stairs outside to grab us as we were reversing out to leave and put his hand in the window and said ok it’s yours. 😂😂😂. Walk away when they least expect it and when they think they’ve sold it no matter what you buying.
Excellent information, I have plans to purchase a grand design R. V. I has been watching differents videos. I really like yours advices and experience . Thank you, God bless you and your wife 🤝👍👏🙏
New friend here on your channel. Hubby and I are living full time in our RV but finishing up moving out of our house. Looking forward to your adventures!❤️
Hey thanks so much for joining our community of amazing and positive people. Best of luck as you finish your move and clean up. Probably not a fun job. What kind of RV do you have? 💙Norm & Kim
Right now a 38’ Puma pull behind but, hopefully soon we are getting a Grand Design Solitude 380FL. Had to get a new truck this past Sat. because our Ram 1500 Eco burned. Put us a little behind on our plans. But we moving forward 😁
I did my homework first. This was one of many videos that prepared me to get the lowest possible price on my RV purchase. I got over 31.5% OFF MSRP OUT THE DOOR. That discount covered tax, license and walk through fees landing us dead on our budgeted number. Key factors that helped. I compared their already greatly reduced sale price to another equal MSRP trailer that was of the same make, year, size, and features. The model was the only difference, however that particular model was reduced even more. WHY? They claim it was because our trailers delivery fee was more. SO WHAT, NOT MY PROBLEM. Dealers can easily absorb and spread those fees around. I also collected intel having visited other dealers and found out that this particular dealer wanted to go back to being an Exclusive Dealer, so that meant they were motivated to get rid of all other makes and models they had acquired during the pandemic when their primary manufacturer ran low on supplies. This gave me another bargaining chip. This so called walk through fee was never gonna happen. They may claim it's a warranty feature, but no where in this warranty does it say I have to pay for it. I had a bottom line price in mind out the door. I refused to talk about monthly payments. I also planned my purchase date between Oct. - Dec. This is when all new models are coming in and they are running out of room. Knowing that there was only 1 left of the exact model that I wanted, I jumped on it, so I was ready with my down payment. Note: I would only agree to 10% down. The dealer always asks for more, but I knew it wasn't necessary to secure the loan. I also split my down payment in half agreeing to give the other half upon delivery. This is a carrot in their face to motivate expediting any repairs and/or cleaning that needs to get done prior to our taking possession. I couldn't be happier. My husband was impressed and followed my lead (he hates money deals) and now we are the proud owners of a trailer 20% higher than we thought we could afford.
just for an add on. thanks for the video. i just bought a 2019 nano and using the spit the difference method worked real well. save me $3000. rv that has been traded in to a dealership looses 50% of its value in my situation. do your research!!! hope this helps anyone buying a rv
Thanks for watching and commenting Shawn. Most of these tips can be applied to purchasing a car or any other big ticket item so even though RV's aren't your thing we hope the tips still help you in the future.
So is MSRP what the dealer has on their sticker or is it what you look up online for the original cost? So if the dealer already has it marked down to 30% less than what I see online is it okay to still ask for 10,20,30% off?? Or is there a chance they just have good prices??🤨
Hey Patti, thanks so much for watching and commenting. We hope you're able to use some or all of the tips we shared when negotiating your new purchase. What kind of rig are you considering? It took us MONTHS to finally make our decision haha. 💚
To get the best deal, is it better to pay cash or finance? I heard dealers like to finance because they can make additional money on the finance. Any ideas?
Financing can potentially lower your cost out the door. If you’re able to pay that off after a month or two then you’re money ahead. Otherwise you’re not.

Good tips on buying campers. Its a game strategy to get a good far deal unfortunately. We are waiting for the RV shows in August. Thanks for the ideas.
I caught this "mature" video, and wanted you to know that I appreciate the help and suggestions. In case you have not heard the term before, a person that pays full list price for a car or an RV, is called "A Barefoot Pilgrim". Heard it years ago, from a friend who sold me my first new car.
I came across your video, you guys are awesome, I have a questions for you guys, I’m a first time RV buyer, I’ve been doing some research, my budget is around 25k(travel trailer) I keep reading reviews on how these thing can give you nightmares such as appliance stop working, poor workmanship, dealers doesn’t want anything to do with you after the sales or can’t get them to fixed anything while still under warranty. I meant the whole idea traveling in your trailer with your family should be fun without things breaking down or worse get stranded somewhere. I guess my question is, what manufacturer do you recommend so I can do my research on, we want to make this purchase a right one while at the same time makings memories and not nightmare. Thank you
Hey thanks so much and welcome to our group of awesome people like you. We have a Grand Design and really like their story and quality. It’s still a trailer rolling down the highway so yea things can and do go wrong. We’ve had our new rig for a full year now with zero problems. Prior to getting our Grand Design we had a Keystone Cougar 2006 model. Bought it used and had it and used it for 5 years with only a few problems but it was an older trailer so not bad I though it also was a great trailer. Good luck on your search. Just remember people that have problems speak up more than those of us that don’t.
Thor has pretty much bought up all of the different RV manufacturers in the last 10 to 15 years. Before 2008 Thor was a great manufacturer and put out quality coaches. Pretty much anything you buy you're going to have some/alot of issues with it the first year and use it while it's still under warranty so you can get all this fixed.. sad but true 🙄
Hey Jean, that’s a great question. No they didn’t try to sell us anything else. I was really surprised. Honest is the best way I can describe Bish’s RV in Pocatello, ID
@@MountainBeaches Maybe Jean means hidden costs, such as admin/"documentation preparation" fees, RV prep fees... etc. I have heard that some US dealerships do this.
We just got home from picking up our new rig. We were so excited that we went ahead and spilled the beans on Facebook and Instagram. All I can say here is that you are at least partially correct in your guess 😂
Question: what do you do with your existing trailer? Use it as a trade in? If so, where do you figure your existing trailer value, NADA? Thank you for your suggestions!
We are privately selling our previous trailer. We had done so many upgrades that it didn't make sense to even try to do a trade. You can use NADA as a starting point to get a ball park value for your rig, but my experience is that you'll never get those numbers, even the wholesale numbers, if you trade in.
OMGoodness, you sound so much like us. We have been researching for MONTHS and have changed our minds many times. We love the GD Solitude 310, but we know what you bought (wink wink)(we saw the video)and May have changed our minds again.
Haha, sounds like we’d hit it off if we had a chance to meet. We know the dilemma in picking a new RV. You want it to be perfect right? You don’t want to pick the wrong this. We can honestly say that we LOVE the 303. We would not have been able to say that had they not changed the color scheme to make it lighter and brighter though. Oh and we also LOVE the Solitude 310 💙
Another buying tip. Look to shop at the end of the selling season. It can differ based on your location and camping weather season. Also, look to buy at the end of end of the month or end of a sales quarter or end of year when companies need to meet quotas. That's when the buyer has the most leverage. It's all mostly common sense. And finance the purchase yourself and not through the dealer. For myself, we are fortunate because we're in a position to pay cash for everything if we choose to.
We bought used. Phoenix cruiser. Love it. We’re in Montana. Lake front real nice 👍.... never pay what they ask. Jane is great at research. !! We’re going to the Pomona rv show and look again . But we get into the forest service places 28 ft. At last year the salesperson offered me 20 grand off the sale price. Tiffin AA.
We are at lake front at Georgetown lake. East of Missoula. We got rained out of glacier. This place is beautiful too. Great fishing they say. We will be at Pomona Rv show for a week.
I want a Tiffin AA. Ya I walk. I wish I would have walked on the last one. We lost our butts. It started on fire ( generates) 2 nd day wired wrong. Slide did not have rollers under it. All the drawers came off ( wrong screws)
#1 be able to walk away. I low balled the dealer , list price $109,000 , is considered upscale 5th wheel, dealt with 5 dealers, then down to , two, one moved $5,000, both had the exact same 5er, left my final offer on the phone. Dealer called back a couple days later, final price $62,000 dollars.
Holy crap didn’t know there was that much wiggle room! Is it the same for a park model rv you think? Do the same negotiates rules apply? My issue is I don’t know what I’m talking about nor am I confident enough to try and fake like I do to the dealers and they sense that lol
I wish I could point you in the right direction but I'm really not familiar with motorhomes. You might try posting that as a question on a facebook forum of motorhome users though.
When we say MSRP are we talking about the dealer's "sale" price or the MSRP before that sale price? Dealers are already selling Class C motorhomes for 35% off MSRP. How much more is reasonable to negotiate? For example, a new Motorhome is MSRP at $242,000 and selling for $155,000 sticker price on the lot. Can you still negotiate 25%-30% more off? Or now, is the negotiation margin much less? Any experience appreciated.
In our situation we were referring directly to the actual MSRP not the dealer price (if lower than MSRP). Also realize this video is several years old and prices and discounts vary a lot depending on inventory, competition and the economy.
Sounds exhausting, but if you're not tired of your money and you don't mind it hanging around for a little while longer, then in the end, it's worth it. Researching and negotiating car/truck deals is good practice -- similar principles apply. I think you'll get a better deal when you are nice/polite/professional. We overheard a conversation between a husband and wife, while the salesperson was away from their table, that went something like this: Husband says, "I'm going to ask for.a discount on the rooftop rack." Wife rebukes him saying, "Don't you dare, because I want a good relationship with this dealership, so we can get good service on oil changes and warranty work." They left money on the table, but got what they wanted. Oh well. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the comments Mike. In the end if the dealer is willing to make the deal, regardless of the discount, they will be happy. The other thing to realize and remember is that the sales team and the service department are seperate groups. And even if you don't end up with a great relationship with the salesman, you still can with the service department (provided you purchased from them). Thanks again!
I know this video is a couple years old, but what would be your advise in this current year? As of now, demand is at an all time high, and supply is far behind demand that manufactures and cutting massive corners and dealers with little motivation because there are 10 buyers lined up wanting that RV right behind you...I'm inclined to wait a couple years to wait for demand to fall and all this current glut of buyers to sell.
You raise a great question. We just released a video saying now is a horrible time to buy an RV but have had many comments saying the recently purchased and were Andale to get 30% off
@@MountainBeaches We have a 29 ft Coleman rear entertainment not ready to do anything yet just getting info on grand design love your 5th wheel choice it seems like a quality product also love the videos.
So we have a travel trailer that we have enjoyed so much. I want to fix it up a little but since we are going to sell it I’m not sure if I should? We have been looking for a full time 5th wheel. There is so much to consider when looking for a full time.
I totally agree. I would carefully evaluate what fixes you are thinking of doing and the cost. Speaking from experience, It's difficult to get much ROI on improvements when you are already thinking of selling. What kind of FT rig are you considering?
We have 2 teen girls and 3 huskies so unfortunately we need a bigger rig. We like the Jayco eagle but we also like a toy hauler. We really need to carry our golf cart because our 19 yr old has Down syndrome. The golf cart keeps her involved with outside activities. She can hike but with limits but riding bikes hasn’t worked out for her.
I am semi retired and have a purchased a new Ram 2500 crew cab diesel. We are going to start looking at fifth wheels soon. We are looking to spend between 50k-60k. We are hoping that looking to buy in the forth quarter will benefit us. Thanks for the tips.
Best of luck in your search. There are lots of options in that price range. We paid mid $40's for our Grand design Reflection 303RLS. What are you looking at right now? 💙Norm & Kim

@@hardtruth2039 Get well! Absolutely get well and then go after those dreams. As we say in our videos, life is too short so live for today. It really is true. We all have those reminders of how fragile we are don't we?
@@hardtruth2039 That ram 2500 diesel might be very limited with fifth wheel trailer due to lower payload capacity and its a diesel(heavier) takes away your payload capacity. Hope you found one that works for you.
Also, don't let the dealer sell you a battery you don't need, or a walk-through either. Both should be included. Camping World wanted to charge me $200 for a battery and $600 for a walk through/prep. No way. Tell them to take that off, or find a dealer who won't charge you.
Those are GREAT points. When we bought our Grand Design, the rig came with a battery and they actually threw in a second one at not extra cost. They did want to charge us for the walk through and we said no and made them remove that. They gave some story about how they couldn't because that is what the service department charges the sales department. My reply is that you both work for the same dealer so yea, take it off.
Been watching a lot of videos regarding buying, looking for an RV to fit our needs. Unfortunately we live in Alaska and do not have the freedom to go to RV shows or walk through the ones we are interested in. My husband and I are projecting our time line to a year from now. We’ve done tons and tons of research. We love your videos. I do have one question we are looking at the Luxe toy Hauler. We’ve even talked to the manufacturer but in saying that they seem to be an exclusive brand and difficult to find used ones. Your negotiating tips are awesome!! Can you or anyone you may know in the lower 48. (That’s what us Alaskans call the rest of the United States. Lol) know how to look or find an exclusive brand such as the Luxe to even start the process of buying? Maybe in your travels you may spot a dealership who may have this brand of RV? THANK YOU!!!!! Wendie, how exciting to hear of your plans. Thank you for sharing and for joining our community of awesome positive people. I've heard of Luxe but to be honest, never seen one. Maybe a starting point for you would be to go to the Luxe website and find some dealers and then just email them. When searching for our new RV we did a ton of online research and contacting various dealers via email prior to ever stepping on a lot. We are looking forward to visiting your great state next summer as we are planning an RV adventure to Alaska. We visited once before when we took a cruise to Alaska and added on a 5 day land tour, we even had the opportunity visit your town. Maybe we'll have a chance to meet when we travel there again, next summer. Thanks so much for joining, 💙Norm & Kim
Hi Roger! There are not many of us high-school sweethearts around. Congrats!!! There are so many options to consider when buying a rig. Hope you find just the right set up for you! Thanks so much for watching and welcome to the Mountain Beaches Club! We are excited to have you!
Great question! My experience is that online prices can be good especially if you are working with multiple dealers and comparing. I would still work to negotiate a lower price than the published online price. There is usually room to deal. One thing to consider is that negotiating a price for an RV in 2020 and even 2021 is much more difficult. There is a huge shortage. The industry as a whole has a multi billion dollar backlog right now so the old adage of supply and demand is working agains buyers right now.
YES it is. We bought ours from Bish's RV in Pocatello from Bill. They have low overhead and are able to negotiate better because of it. WE LOVE OUR 303!!! Keep us posted on your purchase. 💙Norm & Kim
Mountain Beaches, success! We bought a 2020 303RLS from Bish in Pocatello. We absolutely love the 303. Thanks for the recommendation, we couldn’t be happier!
Hey guys I'm watching your Walmart and other free camping video. You all were talking about BLM land and how to find it. Have you ever tried On X app? Its 20 something dollars a year. It will give you all of the boundaries that you need for private, state, federal, and yes BLM land. This app will let you know exactly where you are in relation to these areas. By the way love the show.
There is no option except to pay msrp now. :( there is no leverage for making deals because all units are sold before they even make it to the lot. Very frustrating.
I keep hearing people tell me they are still getting up to 20% though. I’m not personally in the market and I’m sure it varies by region but people keep telling me that discounts are available. 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Eileen, great questions. I'm really not sure what kind of "profit" the dealer needs to make. In fact, my guess is that the answer would be, "it depends on the dealer". Some dealers have a huge overhead with a fancy showroom and big expensive paved lot while others don't. When purchasing a Grand Design we have found that some dealers are willing to discount around 30% off of the MSRP. That's different than saying a percent over cost. Hope that helps.
That's an interesting problem. I guess I would contact both dealers via email to start and see what their pricing is. We drive 1.5 hours to a distant dealer to buy ours because they had a much better price.

20% or 30% off ? I’m thinking of purchasing a leisure travel van unity RL and wanted your opinion how much I can get off the MSRP. The dealership won’t give me any wiggle room.
Hi Jeff. To be honest, I do not have any experience with the leisure travel vans so I really don't know what to expect as far as a discount. My only suggestion would be to talk to several dealers and see if you get similar responses. I would think right now they might be willing to deal more. Good luck.
To my surprise, I have seen several comments recently of buyers who have negotiated 30% discounts. I've also noticed inventories are returning to close to normal so hopefully things are changing.
Very true. I've never traded in a rig so don't have experience to share there. It also complicates the transaction. If you aren't careful the dealer can take advantage of you on both ends of the transaction, offering you too little for your trade and not discounting on your purchase.
Hey Francie , thanks for watching and being part of our awesome community. We stopped at Bish’s in Nampa once about a year ago. GREAT place. Do you have an RV? What type?
Right now you will get nowhere with RV dealers, they are in full gouge mode. I went to a local (Phoenix) Lance dealer looking for a 1685, I would have to order it and wouldn't see it until August, not exactly the best situation for a buyer..
I think the region of the country can make a big difference. I am hearing of others who are seeing discounts in the 25 - 30% range right now. We recently visited a dealer in Yuma, AZ and their in stock inventory was really low.
I know I am a late-comer to this video, but after purchasing numerous RVs, you don't build a relationship with a dealership. Service and sales are completely different entities. Service could care less about the deal. Even after my 3rd purchase at the same dealership, service could care less....Unless the dealer is a mom and pop, you are an ant after the sale.
Very true. They actually even pit one against the other even during the buying process. Especially on the charge for PDI. The salesman will tell you that there is nothing he can do about that $1,500 charge because that is the actual cost that the service department charges him. It's all ballony. Welcome to the channel.
Hey guys, if you haven't yet, go to FaceBook & join RVillage Community. Great info there from fellow RV's. I just posted this video on their site. Good Luck.
It changes with the times. When we purchased in Aug of 2019 we negotiated a 31% discount off of MSRP. During COVID many dealers were selling above MSRP. Things have backed way off and deals are to be had again. If it was me, I'd try to determine availability of the RV I want and if it's not in limited supply I'd start at 35% off MSRP. That is for the 5th wheel market. I'm not as dialed in to the travel trailer and motorhome markets though.
My advice to buying a new RV is never buy a brand new RV. There is no quality control in any type of RV. Let someone else buy it brand new and get all the things fixed that should have been done at the factory in the first place.. buy it used..js
The has always been our motto but our last purchase was a new 2020 Grand Design Reflection 303RLS and it has been awesome. So happy with our decision and the quality.
I think I get where you’re coming from but for us and our plans to keep it forever, it was the right decision. They do take a huge hit on depreciation right off the lot though.
Good advice, sales people hate dealing with me, haha, where is your boss!? Walk away when they least expect it and when they think they’ve sold it no matter what you buying.
Yes great advice. There’s always another option but people get emotionally attached and the salesperson knows that.

That is awesome. Great job 👏
Thank you so very much for the negotiating lesson. We need this so very much.
Our pleasure!
Well organized and full of good advice
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much!
just for an add on. thanks for the video. i just bought a 2019 nano and using the spit the difference method worked real well. save me $3000. rv that has been traded in to a dealership looses 50% of its value in my situation. do your research!!! hope this helps anyone buying a rv
Thanks for sharing, it almost always has worked for us and if it doesn't then that most likely means the seller is already at their rock bottom price.
RV's really are not my thing, but what can I say I love tips on saving money! Great video thanks for sharing this with us cheers from Canada
Shawn
Thanks for watching and commenting Shawn. Most of these tips can be applied to purchasing a car or any other big ticket item so even though RV's aren't your thing we hope the tips still help you in the future.
Thanks for all the tips
Oh that is SO AWESOME!!! Congratulations. 💙
So is MSRP what the dealer has on their sticker or is it what you look up online for the original cost? So if the dealer already has it marked down to 30% less than what I see online is it okay to still ask for 10,20,30% off?? Or is there a chance they just have good prices??🤨
MSRP stands for Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. It is the price before any discounts.
Awesome video. Thanks for all the tips! We hope to be buying a new rig soon. Be safe out there. God Bless! ~ Patti
Hey Patti, thanks so much for watching and commenting. We hope you're able to use some or all of the tips we shared when negotiating your new purchase. What kind of rig are you considering? It took us MONTHS to finally make our decision haha. 💚
Thanks for watching John and Mercedes! And YES, congrats to Whoa Nellie for winning the Hat! 💚
To get the best deal, is it better to pay cash or finance? I heard dealers like to finance because they can make additional money on the finance. Any ideas?
Financing can potentially lower your cost out the door. If you’re able to pay that off after a month or two then you’re money ahead. Otherwise you’re not.
Good video. Great advise. Thanks for sharing.

Barefoot Pilgrim? Haha, nope never heard that phrase before. Thanks for sharing. 💙Norm & Kim
Mountain Beaches thank you for your feedbacks :-)
@@Outdoor-Adventures you're most welcome.
Congratulations on your new rig. Did you have any issues with them adding additional costs on when the deal was written up?
Hey Jean, that’s a great question. No they didn’t try to sell us anything else. I was really surprised. Honest is the best way I can describe Bish’s RV in Pocatello, ID
@@MountainBeaches Maybe Jean means hidden costs, such as admin/"documentation preparation" fees, RV prep fees... etc. I have heard that some US dealerships do this.
All good advice here. Thanks for sharing.
Ah thanks.
Always buy the best, you will never be disappointed. And never pay retail.
Good sound advice.
Great video! We are looking forward to seeing what you guys bought. My wild guess is either the Grand Design Reflection 320MKS, or 29RS.
You can use NADA as a starting point to get a ball park value for your rig, but my experience is that you'll never get those numbers, even the wholesale numbers, if you trade in.
hi all looking good as always thanks for the advice awesome video thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for the kind words! 💚
We’re currently on Modoc County. Can’t wait to explore
All great suggestions. Thanks Howard for adding to the list! Norm
Tiffin AA.
Hey Ken and Jane. We just got back from Montana a couple weeks ago. We LOVE Montana. We stayed at Holland Lake. Where are you guys hanging?
We are at lake front at Georgetown lake. East of Missoula. We got rained out of glacier. This place is beautiful too. Great fishing they say. We will be at Pomona Rv show for a week.
I want a Tiffin AA. Ya I walk. I wish I would have walked on the last one. We lost our butts. It started on fire ( generates) 2 nd day wired wrong. Slide did not have rollers under it. All the drawers came off ( wrong screws)
Great video.. great tips.. great hats!
Thanks guys. ❤️ to you Paula.
Great job Don. Yes, you're right, too many of us are afraid to walk away. Thanks for sharing.
Holy crap didn’t know there was that much wiggle room! Is it the same for a park model rv you think? Do the same negotiates rules apply? My issue is I don’t know what I’m talking about nor am I confident enough to try and fake like I do to the dealers and they sense that lol
Thats over 43% off, WOW!
Good information. Now we're looking for a motorhome, do you know which brands I should stay away from due to quality issues.
I wish I could point you in the right direction but I'm really not familiar with motorhomes. You might try posting that as a question on a facebook forum of motorhome users though.
@@MountainBeaches Thank you.
@@MountainBeaches Yes, I realize this was an old video. I thought I'd post to see if anyone had insights. Thanks for your reply.
We just released a video saying now is a horrible time to buy an RV but have had many comments saying the recently purchased and were Andale to get 30% off
Hi just a question did you trade your last Camper in and did it affect the price on the 303?
Thx
No we did not do a trade-in. Paid cash. What are you trying to trade? Ours was a 2006 Cougar and I knew the read value was really bad.
@@MountainBeaches We have a 29 ft Coleman rear entertainment not ready to do anything yet just getting info on grand design love your 5th wheel choice it seems like a quality product also love the videos.
Paul Paolini thanks so much. We do love our Grand Design.
💙Norm & Kim
Mountain Beaches just looking at different floor plans, RV trader and you tube videos at this point. Looking for a RV show that we can go to soon. I am currently recovering from an emergency quintuple bypass so thing are in a holding pattern at the moment.
@@hardtruth2039 Get well! Absolutely get well and then go after those dreams. As we say in our videos, life is too short so live for today. It really is true. We all have those reminders of how fragile we are don't we?
Mountain Beaches absolutely!

Hi Roger! There are not many of us high-school sweethearts around. Congrats!!! There are so many options to consider when buying a rig. Hope you find just the right set up for you! Thanks so much for watching and welcome to the Mountain Beaches Club! We are excited to have you!
What do you think about online prices? Not MSRP but a discounted online price. Do you pay similar to the online price? Less or more?
Great question! My experience is that online prices can be good especially if you are working with multiple dealers and comparing. I would still work to negotiate a lower price than the published online price. There is usually room to deal. One thing to consider is that negotiating a price for an RV in 2020 and even 2021 is much more difficult. There is a huge shortage. The industry as a whole has a multi billion dollar backlog right now so the old adage of supply and demand is working agains buyers right now.
Hi, we live in Idaho and in the market for a 303RLS. Given your recent purchase, is a 30% discount realistic for this model?
YES it is. We bought ours from Bish's RV in Pocatello from Bill. They have low overhead and are able to negotiate better because of it. WE LOVE OUR 303!!! Keep us posted on your purchase. 💙Norm & Kim
Will do! Thank you.

We've never heard of that app but will have to give it a look. Thanks for the tip Tim!
What percentage over cost are most dealers usually willing to sell at? What are they looking at for their minimal profit?
Hey Eileen, great questions. I'm really not sure what kind of "profit" the dealer needs to make. In fact, my guess is that the answer would be, "it depends on the dealer". Some dealers have a huge overhead with a fancy showroom and big expensive paved lot while others don't. When purchasing a Grand Design we have found that some dealers are willing to discount around 30% off of the MSRP. That's different than saying a percent over cost. Hope that helps.
@@MountainBeaches thanks, it gives an idea.....
Absolutely!
What do you do when the model you want is being sold by one dealer only and the next dealer authorized to sell that model is hundreds of miles away?
That's an interesting problem. I guess I would contact both dealers via email to start and see what their pricing is. We drive 1.5 hours to a distant dealer to buy ours because they had a much better price.

How did y'all come to decide on a GD? I too thinking of going with GD.
We researched for about a year and felt like GD had the best customer support and their products were some of the best made in the price point we were looking at. @@MountainBeaches I heard GD got bought out by Winnabago. I hope there quality does not go down. It happen to me with a Country Coach diesel pusher back in 2000's. CC was an excellent private company until National bought them out.
Good luck.

WALK AWAY.
The shortage of RVs due to Covid-19 is making it difficult to get the kind of deals you describe.
To my surprise, I have seen several comments recently of buyers who have negotiated 30% discounts. I've also noticed inventories are returning to close to normal so hopefully things are changing.
I bought a $45500 brand new Rv for $19500 cash.
The one aspect in negotiation you didn't share was selling or trading your rig.
Very true. I've never traded in a rig so don't have experience to share there. It also complicates the transaction. If you aren't careful the dealer can take advantage of you on both ends of the transaction, offering you too little for your trade and not discounting on your purchase.
Oooo, we like Bishs in Nampa. ID

@@francietunes Keep us posted on your search. Exciting times for sure!!!
Good Luck.
Wow, thank James. We will for sure go check it out and join.
All these videos say “don’t pay sticker” but never explain what to offer. 10% less?, 30% less?
