Erich, thanks for the help. I have a knack for songs fitting people that mean something to me.. I have got to say that yours is by the hollies , He ain't heavy, he's my brother. Why? I truly believe that you love and want to help all of us that wants to learn. I truly appreciate you. Keep doing what you do
I love that you have a sense humor in your lessons that's what makes the tutorials enjoyable and fun to watch! These also help people become better musicians and that I'm glad you don't take these so serious like some strict guitar instructors do.
yourguitarsage you're welcome! Thank you for encouraging people to never give up playing guitar and inspiring people to have put in everything they have because hard work pays off one day
I'm a beginner and I've been fighting the "effing F" from day one. I can't believe it but, in less than 10 minutes of watching your vid, I'm playing an F chord (and my first full bar chord). I wish I'd found your channel from the start. Thank!
Thanks Erich. I'm 49 and a beginner. Been checking out all of the different how-to videos on the internet and yours are the best overall. Bought your book on Amazon after watching a bunch of your videos and just wanted to say thanks. Also like your sense of humor! -Jim
Hi Jim, Welcome! So glad you are enjoying the vids & book. Please, do stay in touch and let me know how you are doing. As I tell all my students, practice is the key. I still do every day and I have been playing for years. If you don;t use it, you lose it. Look forward to hearing good news! e:)
This really helped before I just mited all the strings when I played a barre chord (like this if u were the same !!) now I actually understand why I mute them and push my fingers down harder this exercise really helped me realize that I are the true "sage"
I've adopted the 3 string version for now, it has allowed me to at least play F chords in songs till I improve to 4 and 5 string versions of the chord. Many thanks.
You're so right. When I started learning guitar at first I saw learning all the notes as a waste of time, but after I did it made life so much easier. They're simple too. The musical scale has a basic repeating pattern that can be transferred all over along with the knowledge that it all repeats at fret 12 cut the learning time in half.
+Jester Munn Yeah Jester! Check this out! Don’t miss it!!!! LIVE this Sunday, May 1st 3P EST(Eastern Standard Time) Go to yourguitarsage.com/live If you can’t make this one please go to: yourguitar.com/live and find the dates for future live webinars not on FB. Keep rockin my friend! e:)
Wow, I watched this video once and now my full barre chord F sounds perfect most of the time instead of once for every hundred times. Thanks so much for somehow magically transmitting the correct finger placement to me :)
Dude, I freaking love your tutorials! I'm about to be 15 and I've been playing since I was eleven and every time I need help on something your videos tell me everything I need. They're the best in my opinion because they make learning new chords fun and I don't feel like it's a drag to have to look up "how to" videos. So I just wanted to say thanks man, you've really helped me out a lot(:
Just keep on at it for those who are having a tough time with barring it. I remember when i just started out a year or two ago and my entire left hand would hurt from trying to hold down the chord. As long as you keep trying it will work, any normal human being can do it.
Oh my gosh! I can FINALLY play an F chord! I don't even know how it happened.. I've tried learning before but I could never get it. This video gave me a bit of inspiration to give it another try after months of giving up on F and I did it! You are awesome :D
It is a percentage play.Great video. Each week or few days the F chord gets better. What helped me Aldo was isolating the problen note or two and created an excercise just for them.
Thanks! That was very helpful. And you're a nice guy, funny one! I like when guys from tutorials don't take everything serious. It was pleasure to learn from you!
I either play the F as a full bar chord, or if I want that open chord sound I often just skip barring the high e and B string and just play a it the way he has it at 3:38, but I like to let the high e ring out. It doesn't sound bad.
Hey Erich! I'm still watching your videos...have many more to watch! But THIS "effing" one is my favorite so far as I thought there was absolutely NO WAY I could ever form an F chord with my short fingers, small hands and the 3-string F chord I can do! I will see how it sounds with my songs I sing (i.e. Country Roads-John Denver). As always, LOVE your humerus personality and way of teaching! 💜
You're right, Guitar is harder because you have to actually make the music in your hands. In piano, you're just flipping a lever on a big impersonal machine.
Hey Erich!~ It's David (the guy from facebook that you probably don't remember :P) Anyways... Welcome back!! ;D Appreciate your work and also your thanksgiving event was awesome~ Now I have something productive to do during winter break~
Wow,I've seen three of your videos and I can already tell YOU are my go to on anything guitar related. You are HILARIOUS! Thanks for being so awesome :)
Just looked at The E book Free version. I am beyond intrigued. I'm considering buying it sometime soon. Thanks so much and I am a loyal Guitar ninja!!!

glad to see you back :) id love for you to teach maybe some chords that are not used as much as g d c am ect... just some amazing sounding chord that we dont see as often :)... if that makes sence lol

Hey so d'angelo has this song called on mo gin that contains the F chord. It's a really good soulful song. If you mabe do a tutorial on that that would be like AMAZING! Thanks!
thanks for this video, im glad to know about that 5 string version, to play it with other cage chords easily :) could you do a video on the f chord that looks just like that 5 string one but you add the thumb on the bass E string first fret? im struggling with it, wondering if maybe theres some trick to bending or twisting your wrist or fingers or something like that to make it easier
Usefull one! :) I'm still somewhat struggling to get the barred version right because my index finger is straight like a banana in the plain of my palm. I have to rotate the palm even more for F to sound good.
Hi thank you sooooo much for your video! Just started learning the guitar few days ago and was struggling to learn how to play this chord! New subscriber sir!^^
Great lesson Looking forward to have fun with A guitar my main concern I have short chubby fingers would this be a problem for me to reach the chords I was also looking into a base instrument to have fun with it as well with this be easier for me what's your suggestion for a beginner
Thanks for making this video, i just learned an easier f chord for a song i have been trying to learn for this girl i wanna ask out. You might have gotten me a date with this video
Subscribed! Thank you thank you for doing this video, it has made my life a little easier for now until I am used to the funky position my hand has to go into to do the whole F chord :)
I like the F Chord, both the Barre version and the primary version are Movable, I use the F formation all over the neck to play solos and other chords all over the fretboard; too me it's easier than alot of the other chords
Hey Erich. On this video in particular, I noticed that it is sometimes very difficult to tell which string your fingers were on. It's all a matter of the camera angle relative to your fingers. At some points, I felt certain your second finger was on the fourth string, and at one point I was even sure it was on the fifth. How did I know that was wrong? My brain already knew it was actually on the third string, and made a 3D model of what I couldn't see. It would help a lot if your showed a chord chart of what you're playing. Then the viewer's brain will automatically recalculate the 3D position of your fingers without having to know it, and realize that they are "obviously" angled back at the distal joint.
Question: As I learn the cords, do I memorize from the bottom up, or do I memorize by the fingers? i. e. 1st finger on G, 2nd finger on E. etc. Congratulations on your new home. Looks nice. Ginny
Thank you so much Ginny. Whatever method helps you remember the chords, use that one. I know that sounds like a copout, but honestly everybody has their own way of learning chords. I always suggest transitioning between two chords to memorize them. And then move onto another two chords.
I nodded my head and you saw it O_O! Thank you. I've been working on this chord and thought my finger strength wasn't to key, but I turned it like you said and voila. an effin lazy F
The F chord is hard, but no one ever talks about B-flat. If I knew then, what I know now, I'd practice the shape higher up the neck. Trying to help out beginners; I've done pretty much what your teaching, but the F-chord is a thresh hold moment where a lot of people realize they weren't that interested in playing in the first place. They tend to give up at this point. Always bums me out. Can't help, but feel a little responsible for scaring them off.
Great tutorial on the F chord. Always been a challenge for me to get it to sound decent and i hate using bar chords when i don't need to. It just breaks up my rhythm too much.
when I first learned how to play guitar I hated the F chord, I thought there no way I will ever get this chord down, I tried many ways like the way he show hear where you start with your first finger and Barr the E and B string, so I would go 1st finger first fret 2nd finger 2nd fret and 3rd finger 3rd fret, but that did not work... now at this time I could make a C chord, So I started with my 3rd finger right down on the D string 3rd fret, then my 2nd finger right down on the G string 2nd fret, then and here is were it takes a little work, but I would take my first finger right down on top of both the B string and the E string, and I would just keep moving my first finger, intell I could barr both the B and E string, it does take some pressure on your first finger to get both strings down, but if you stick with it your finger WILL FIND AWAY TO COME RIGHT DOWN ON THOSE STRINGS AND BARR THEM. then as you get better your first finger will start to barr those strings every time, and over time your first finger will start to flated out a little bit. But try it this way and I hope it works for you too....side note...I could never make the F chord buy putting my first finger down first and try to barr those strings. by the time I got my 3rd finger in place my finger would flated out and sound bad.
@batwill barring strings B, G, D with my 3rd finger and trying to mute the e string. I know i have to practise it, I'm playing it better and better, but maybe there are some technique tips I should know.

Hi thank you sooooo much for your video! Just started learning the guitar few days ago and was struggling to learn how to play this chord! New subscriber sir!^^
The one fingering sounds like Color My World by Chicago. Speaking of which, could you do a video of it? Very pretty ballad.
I'll have to put it on the very long request list Glenn.
Great lesson Looking forward to have fun with A guitar my main concern I have short chubby fingers would this be a problem for me to reach the chords I was also looking into a base instrument to have fun with it as well with this be easier for me what's your suggestion for a beginner

True, and right now when I use the side of my finger for bar and I press down on the 3rd sting, it makes the 1st and 2nd strings go mute
I have a Takamine too! Lucky us! Nice lesson!
@sixstringthing1 ;) Thanks friend!
I like the F Chord, both the Barre version and the primary version are Movable, I use the F formation all over the neck to play solos and other chords all over the fretboard;

I can do the one before the bar fine, but I saw myself holding the Guitar neck like a shovel. Please help me out in how to fix this.
Thank you!! This video helped out a lot. Just gotta practice practice practice!!!!
You are welcome and you got that right, mrdelcross...practice, practice, practice! Appreciate your comment.

Hey, I always feel proud of myself because I have the same guitar as you! :)
Yup!

Yep! Thank you for the kind words Shane.
Oh my days thank you so much for explaining this 🙏 the effing fchord 😂!!!
Thank you Erich! P.S.... seen your Takamine's and Gibson, what other acoustics do you own?
How do you get your fingers warmed up to play the chords on the fret board
when I first learned how to play guitar I hated the F chord, I thought there no way I will ever get this chord down, I tried many ways like the way he show hear where you start with your first finger and Barr the E and B string, so I would go 1st finger first fret 2nd finger 2nd fret and 3rd finger 3rd fret, but that did not work... now at this time I could make a C chord, So I started with my 3rd finger right down on the D string 3rd fret, then my 2nd finger right down on the G string 2nd fret, then and here is were it takes a little work, but I would take my first finger right down on top of both the B string and the E string, and I would just keep moving my first finger, intell I could barr both the B and E string, it does take some pressure on your first finger to get both strings down, but if you stick with it your finger WILL FIND AWAY TO COME RIGHT DOWN ON THOSE STRINGS AND BARR THEM. then as you get better your first finger will start to barr those strings every time, and over time your first finger will start to flated out a little bit. But try it this way and I hope it works for you too....side note...I could never make the F chord buy putting my first finger down first and try to barr those strings. by the time I got my 3rd finger in place my finger would flated out and sound bad.
I almost got it! I think within a month I'll be killing this chord :D
Hope you are now
Charity Okiria I am!! 😁

Thanks for this! Just question could you make a tutorial of better than revenge by Taylor swift?
