I use Sennelier oil pastels they are great on top of gouache painting. I also use clairefontaine pastelmat paper. Its great if you want to do a lot of layers with the oil pastel. Lovely landscape.
I really enjoyed this video. Your artwork is lovely. I have to say the way Sennelier organizes the colors in these sets baffles me. I would need to rearrange them too! Thanks for sharing.
I recently learned from another online artist that most of the better manufacturers arrange their color charts in color families, always starting with the cooler colors and ending with the warmer colors. I can't tell you how much frustration this has relieved for me. I hope this helps you as much as it did me. Thank you.
This is one of the very best art material reviews I’ve seen. Have you gone out and done Plein air with these Sennelier oil pastels yet? One advantage I see with oil pastels is that they do not require any water at all to work, yet give the color vibrancy and opacity of oils! Did you figure out how to cover up the white parts?
thank you! 😊 no i haven't tried that yet, i think the hard part about oil pastel plein air painting is bringing back the finished piece without smudging it, since it doesn't really dry... so it almost has to be treated like an oil painting, i probably need a pochade box for that! and yeah i think using gouache or watercolor as underpainting work really great!
Great video 🤍 I really want to try them out but since they are very pricey and creamy, I am afraid of their durability 🥲 I have been using Neocolor 2, wax based pastels for like 10 years, and they are still not finished. So, do you think they worth it?
it's true; they don't last very long if you use them often or paint large, so maybe just get 6 or 12 colors to start with and build your own set slowly over time, see if you enjoy using them. I heard that some brands like Paul Rubens are almost as good as dupes, i havn't tried them yet, but i will do a comparison video about them soon :)
i live in Sweden so I bought the 48-color set from a Swedish art supply shop Kreatima, and then ordered extra colors from Penstore and Skapamer during the Christmas discount. the wooden box is from Amazon 😊

oh that's great! i never tried pastelmat paper before, does it buckle when you use gouache on it?

In my experience, pastels always look on paper like they do in the stick, unlike markers.
true! markers' colours on the cover are usually way off 😅

where did you get these?

Also, the arrangement of the colors in their boxes does not necessarily follow the color charts.
You're most welcome.
Do you create on your own too or are you just copying?
i like to do both :) but in this video i only did master studies.
