My personal opinion is that spinning reels are far better suited for repeated casting and retrieving whereas conventional reels are better suited for bottom fishing and surf-or trolling. I prefer the feel of fighting a fish with a conventional rod and reel either on surf or on a boat both trolling or bottom fishing. I will use spinning tackle when using lures for salt and fresh water either on shore or boat. Been fishing for over 65 years utilizing the methods described above. I’m not saying either system is right or wrong, only expressing what I feel is right for me. Happy fishing everyone.
