Burnout: I've heard it said that marathon runners get 10 good races in their career. The physical stress of the training and racing is just too much to stay competitive. Saying fighters do it 3 times a year sounds easy, but 3 full camps is 36 weeks of the year, which is a lot. That's a lot of training to pick up and manage injuries. That's a lot of weight cutting. All that, plus the mental stress is a lot. I can totally see how some people can get burnt out.
I've seen tradies work 12hr shifts, 6/7 days a week for 52weeks. Some of the UFC fighters used to be tradies but left the job for fighting cos the job was demanding physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally 👀 3 camps a year doesn't seem that hard in retrospect
I'm from NZ and I've also heard that Izzy likes to party, and will only get into fight mode 6 weeks before a fight. Has done so for all of his fights in the UFC. This is definitely a huge contributing factor to the burnout I feel.
Lmao that's all cap, I used to work with David doing security/bouncing and I've met Izzy prob 4 times since he join UFC. Lols he's either in camp, or at the gym, hardly ever comes out and when he does, it's usually after a fight to celebrate or cos he already fought enough throughout the year. Not only was Izzy's fight against Strickland weird, the corner was weird between rounds. I remember Eugene not saying anything for almost the whole break at one point, then he just said something like "what's happening?" I've never seen him act like that before. He's never in a rush, but he always has instructions.
This is what I keep telling people. Izzy threw that lean back hook very weird. It wasnt set up or timed well. He just winged it out. But if you notice he tends to perform worse when theres more CKB fighters on the card.
I think he has a drinking problem. There are a lot of subtle signs. Being drunk when he confronted dricus. The dui. Stuff like that. He needs to sober up and stop partying

I think he'll be alright. The folks that are that transparent about their struggles tend to address them. Add the world stage he voiced to and I think the outcry of support would motivate him and put him in the right mental frameworks to overcome it. He also has quite a personality and has made some bank so I hope he does well beyond ufc. Volk seems like such down to earth likeable dude

But i had twenty Three operations after that day and because of that I became addicted to oxy. Well that and mental health issues because that was my 4th tour in Iraq. So that's why i worry about him by just his statements of anytime he slows down he drinks. That was me too. The military was my purpose. When i lost that i lost myself and it took me almost ten years to come out of that constant cycle.
Im from nz and ive seen coach bareman at local fight shows aswell coaching is kickboxers. King in the ring coaching kickboxers. His young mma fighters. Seminars. Hes still doing it every other week aswell as the big ufc ones.

Izzy was off and Sean had him mentally too but you are 100% accurate about the matchup… Sean is constantly walking people down so it is hard for Izzy to kick at all . Izzy needs people to either throw bombs* he can counter or freeze from all the feints, Sean doesn’t do any of that.
That's 9 months of training if you're fighting 3x a year assuming you get full camps and factor in 2-4 weeks of rest after each fight which is just about year round when regarding time spent working

He lost because Sean is his foil. Izzy has poor boxing fundamentals. He doesn’t know how to deal with jabs which is all Sean throws. Izzy’s best punches are his straight punches which is what Sean is best at defending. Izzy doesn’t know how to fight on the front foot which makes it easier for Sean to walk him down and ironically is the way to beat Sean. He’ll always lose to Sean unless he fixes his boxing or learns to come forward. I think the biggest cause of Izzy’s defeat is Izzy.He had 5 rounds to figure out a path to victory. He should’ve adapted but didn’t. He stuck to what he thought would work and did nothing else.

Chael it’s money man it’s money some fighters once the get a few big paydays they never the same it takes a year or two with a big payday then downhill Tyrone woodly Connor mcgregor couple great examples but then sometimes you get that special guy who can maintain for along time like Anderson Silva or Jon jones he ain’t the greatest example but Silva is even he was eventually just done and u could tell he just wanted out to spend his money it’s a hard thing for a multi millionaire to want to wake up and be punched in the face still .
