QD: For me a scoring system is a way of ordering how the reviewer rates the shoes versus others. As such if you say this one is, for example, 8 out of 10 it means little unless you also relate which shoes in that class of shoe scored higher or lower. Better still where does it rank amongst them. Also most reviewers seem to always score shoes about 7 or 8 regardless of if they actually appear to like them or not. As such goes back to my first point that the scores can sometimes be so similar that often says little. Much of the time with shoes, I feel how they fit for me that is most important. So if you say a shoe fits wide might be great for those with wide feet but hopeless for me with narrow feet. Similarly if you say a shoe is narrow, my ears perk up. I guess in a way the reason is that there are so many shoes out there it is that what works for one runner won't work for another so any scoring system for one reviewer is really a rating of your personal preference and that's when it gets tricky for viewers to intrepret properly for themselves.
It’s important to remember that these shoes scored this way because they worked for Seth this way. I returned the Mach’s after 3 runs because they felt like potatoes on my feet. Then again, they could be your favorite shoe ever, but you don’t know until you try them out.
Same here, I absolutely hated the Mach4, tried to give them a fair shot and took them to 25 miles before throwing in the towel. Bought the Puma Velocity Nitro and prefer them by a long way.
THIS! Man, I ran a little over 100 miles in the Mach 4's and I felt so clunky and unnatural in them. Everyone talked about how energetic, light, and great they felt when running in them, but I couldn't get them to work at all. NB Rebel V2 have been AMAZING for me though.
Just ran in my rebel V2 today (thanks again Seth for the shoe giveaway!). I own the Mach 4. To me, Mach 4 was overhyped and the Rebel V2 is under hyped. Love the V2 (maybe it’s because they were free- lol!)
It's not only Mach 4 overhyped but the whole brand Hoka. This brand is not only overhyped but also overpriced if you consider chip materials the shoe is made.
I bought into the Mach 4 hype, first Hoka I have ever owned. It will be the last Hoka I will ever buy. Boring, no energy return, and just a flat ride. I weight 190 and it does nothing for me.
mach 4 have a great and comfortable fit, wich is rare enough didn't try them long enough (just a few strides in store) to have more opinion hoka shoes (at least bondi and clifton) are juste about comfort, at the expense of speed / energy return / fun factor, but if you buy them knowing that they're good
I went into a store today wanting some hokas and came out with the rebel v2's. I tried some hokas while I was there but I just wasn't Impressed with the ride or energy return at all. Kinda felt like my dead ultraboosts. When I tried the new balance rebel v2's it felt alot more responsive and stable. The hokas fit very well but the ride just didn't impresse at all.
Durability of the midsole specifically, meaning how long will the foam last. Over time the energy return (the “bounce back”) of foam degrades. Whereas durability can look at the outsole, the upper, the whole shoe itself. I think that’s how he’s grading those categories anyways! Hope that helps a bit
Not necessarily, foams can be amazing but not durable, or vice versa. Most new super foams like Zoom X are the most responsive on the market but will get chewed up quickly, plus durability is also very influenced by the outsole (rubber).
: so Mach4 scores higher, so it would be more recommended for purchase for someone who needs a well-rounded shoe, but I still get the feeling you enjoy running in the Rebel v2 more. Does scoring sometimes contradict overall personal preference?
I don't know what Seth will say but in the end we are are own reviewers. I'm a Hoka/Skechers guy and love those brands. I have the Mach 4 and love it, so I am not even going to try on the NB Rebel v2. In the end for hobby runners, if it is a good shoe, it is good enough regardless of the score as long as I like it. Also, it is what is important to you. The Rebel scored higher in the energy return/ride area (just barely) but maybe that is the most issue to you.
He's already mentioned that the reason the mach 4 won is because of durability. So yes, seth likes to run in the rebel v2 more but he's only ran in it for 50 miles. If he were to recommend a shoe to everyday consumers like us he'll recommend mach 4 simply because we'll bring it to full mileage. Just don't put too much weight in the running shoe battle results but rather see the characteristics of each individual shoe and if it'll fit your needs before making a purchase. If your concern isn't durability and you don't mind buying a 2nd pair, go with rebel v2. If you want a shoe more to the all round side, go mach 4.
For things like shoe reviews, I guess affordability scores are expected. But I don’t think most runners would attribute affordability to how much they end up enjoying their shoes. So ya, I bet there are some factors that could contribute to that contradiction.
QD: I was wondering what was the highest score ever given out for a shoe, overall and for an individual category. I would love to see a video or playlist going over the best rated shoes of all time from the Shoedio.
@@novaknight402 The Endorphin Speed got a 7.9, which he described as "not too shabby". And then that somehow became his top shoe of the year? It's a perfect example of how broken this scoring system is. I hope he enlists some help to improve it.
@@gbaker125 yeah I agree, it seems kind of inconsistent. I usually go off of how he says the shoe feels rather than the scoring because a score could mean many different things.
sounds like the rebel takes the win if you don’t care about reduced durability 👀 for me it’s a lot about the midsole and ride/energy return so the rebel takes the win for me personally
I'll take the Rebel V2 everyday. Until the shoes actually go all the miles, durability is just a guess. So many said the VP 4% and Next% would not be durable and were completely wrong.
I was thinking this. Midsole trumps everything for me. I'm not picky about the upper. I'd still need to try them both on in real life as I could still see liking the mach 4 the best.
Different cases for different people. I have both and I love them both, but I’d always lean on taking my Mach 4 s over the rebel v2s. The rebel v2s are a little bit less stable and secure on my feet, thus eventually making my feet more ‘fatigued’ in long runs compared to the firmer mach 4s.
I took rebel v1 to 600km before v2 showed up, but v1 is still fine. Taken v2 to 350km so far and no issues. Not sure how NB did it but Rebel v2 works at paces from 2:47km to over 5:00km.
I like the Mach 4s but they get very warm and heavy during longer runs. I'm currently using Saucony Freedom 4s as a daily trainer and long run shoe. The PB Plus foam is a game changer for me. I would love to hear your thoughts on the Adidas Adios 6.
Would love to see a filtering system on the website that lets you choose a run type (long, tempo, easy, race, jack of all trades), surface type (road, trail) and have it present a table of results with the ability to sort by cost, score, durability. Regarding the scoring system - have you considered weighting some things more than others (ie midsole performance higher than durability)? On that note, maybe the ability to sort results by most important (to the user) category so if you're looking for a racing shoe, you can prioritize midsole over durability etc. Would also be good to note whether a shoe is true to size or not. I am sure I have other ideas for ways for the user to find what they want.
Seth- I really love your scoring system and the way it has evolved! An idea to make it even better- since runners prioritize specific elements of a shoe differently, would there be a way on the website to allow us to “personalize” the scoring by using your scores in each category and telling a weighted algorithm what is most important to us? This would be similar to a survey where someone is asked to score the importance of elements from 1-5, then the scores in each category (and overall score) are adjusted accordingly. If you could pull that off, you would have the best running shoe resource on the internet. I have faith! Thanks for all you do.
Good morning DGR Family!!!!As Covid had most races cancelled in the last 12-18 months, post some goals! You might be surprised how fast you can still run!!!!! I have a ton of friends in the local scenes in my Green Bay area. I'm sure you do too!!!! I started throwing challenges out there on certain Strava segments to make running extremely fun! For example... Yesterday, I played around with different paces in my training. I posted to my friends in the "I need a beer" segment on a road by a liquor store, I was 8th overall with a 7:05/mile PR. I knew someone would take up the challenge. Sure enough! One of my best friends was tied with me at 7:05. Yesterday he went out a blasted a 4:57/mile pace. Now, he wants to go run an 800 on a track and see how fast he can do one all out!!! Running is so much fun! Toss in the challenges and it's even more fun! I'm 58 and have plans to still do a 13 minute or possibly a 12 minute 2 mile all out on a track! Go get it DGR Family!
I've done 100 miles in the Mach 4 and love it. But it is obvious from the reviews that the Rebel V2 is a super fun shoe of high quality, so here on my 65th birthday, I used a $25 gift card and sent away for the Rebel V2. So many shoes, so little time. :-)
kind of weird that durability is focused on the upper and midsole. what about the outsole? rebel v2 would very likely last longer with more rubber down there. i have seen alot of pictures and comments by others on how well the rebel midsoles held up. pretty bummed that seth still have this impression that the fuelcell is going to breakdown alot faster just because it is softer.
Thanks for this Epic Battle Seth!!! I asked the question during the live stream and I am happy I did!! I can’t wait to try the Rebel V2 because of the ride and energy return and the butter fell of the midsole!!
I feel when people ask "Shoe A or Shoe B?", they are short-changing the answer they receive. For what purpose? (Longer runs? Track work? Only shoe in the quiver?) What are your preferences? (Softer? Bouncier/fun? Ground feel?) Truth is, there's a lot of excellent shoes on the market now - and a lot of it comes down to use case, preference and budget.
Seth can you do a running shoe review on Crocs?? I just saw a comment in the DGR Facebook page that linked an article about a family that runs in Crocs (and gets great times!). It would be very very interesting to get your take on them.
QD: Seth, do you “weigh” the scores from each category (ride, fit, durability) into your final score based on their relative importance to you? Or is each category given equal weight? Also, do you think it’s in interest of your reviews to keep some details undisclosed, lest the shoe manufacturers try to game the system when they send samples to you?
Great battle! QD: for the fit category, it is tricky because it depends mainly of your foot shape. if you have narrow/wide or low/high volume foot, arch, etc. Maybe explain to the viewers what is your foot type. After trying a few shoes that you reviewed, I get a sense that I have a bit wider/higher volume foot that you so I take this in consideration when you talk about the fit. Onward and upward
: Seth, one quip I have with the scoring is durability/value when compared to weight. Sometimes, you'll say that for a training or easy day shoe, X weight is acceptable and you don't seem to penalize the weight score as much as you do with durability, which then in turn affects value. Durability also depends on shoe usage. I don't think a shoe should have a lower durability score if it's say a racing shoe, since we don't expect them to go as far, since there are often sacrifices made--especially to the outsole.
RABBIT HOLE ALERT: This may sound crazy, but I don't think it is. Maybe there should be a different scoring system based on shoe type. Going back to my previous example (above), durability score is more relevant to an everyday trainer than a 2x use race shoe. Think about cars. If I were scoring cars and acceleration was a category, would it be fair to use the same scale for a minivan as it would be for a Ferrari? Or top speed. I'd be disappointed if my Bugatti only got to 200 mph and I'd give it a low score, probably a 3, but if my Escalade could get to 100, I'd give it a 10. (Disclaimer: I do not own a Ferrari, a Bugatti or an Escalade.)
Great review. Would be interested between a Mach4 vs Adios 6 battle. Historically I wouldn't line them up, but the recent stacks of Adidas' Adios line, makes me think their use cases are converging.
On their trail shoes the midsoles wear out before the outsole. I have a pair of EVO Speedgoats that look great, but I can no longer run in due to the midsole flatten out around 275 miles. Still it is such a great shoe I bought another pair. Now I store them in a dark closet instead of the garage in hope of making them last longer.
I'm light for my height, 135 ish, but while they definitely lost some of the pillowy feel and energy return quicker than I expected, my Clifton 6's outlasted any other pair of shoe I've owned, though I wore my Kinvara 9's longer but got injured soooo.
Hi Seth, love your reviews, but since I have wide feet I cannot really use many of them {i'm pretty much only using Altra's}. When it comes to the scoring and fit perhaps there should be some recommendation whether the shoes are suitable for a narrow or a wide foot.
I sometimes run I'm the escalante 2.5 and wear various altras to work. The rebel is actually very accommodating, just be sure to get the wide version and size up. Hoka's have always been to narrow for me, but the Mach 4 fits great. I had me first run today. Out of the two the rebel is more exciting, but sometimes can feel to soft for my liking. I have a long run tommorow in the Mach 4 and will then be able to make a judgement about where it should be in my rotation. For me the rebel is good for anything under 8 miles.
@@kimwarner6050 Hi Kim, i'm very interesting in your comment since i have wide feet too. One month later, wich one would you recommend for a daily trainer / treshold / long run shoe for the wide-feet runner i am ? thank you very much from France ! (that is why the weird english maybe ^^)
@@quentinmagnier3129 the escalante can do everything, but be sure to get to sizes. I sized down b/c I like a snug fit. The Mach 4 does not have any pop to me. The shoe is very comfortable and good for daily or long run shoe. For fast shoes I have the Asiscs metaspeed sky. I suggest you size up. For something cheaper the rebel v1 or sl20 v1. Keep in mind for my foot a like a slightly firmer rid
Never had a running shoe with an outsole too narrow, including the Nike Mariah back in the early 80's (1981). Never run well in a shoe with a wide outsole. Might try the NB Rebel V2 when I keep reducing down to a 6mm drop.
I agree… didn’t live up to the hype for me. First reaction was meh. The Rebel v2 on the other hand exceeded my expectations. Love the Rebel v2 (this coming from a Hoka guy).
When talking about the scoring system, would it be useful to have a separate criterion or category for race/super shoes? Often times I see that carbon plated racers will score lower than daily trainers, even though within the context of the video it seemed as if you were an enthusiastic fan of the carbon shoe. It just seems like a 7 for a Novablast isn't the same score as a 7 for a Metaspeed Sky (just random numbers, don't remember your actual scores). Does that make sense?
This summer I’m going to start running on the road to get ready for next Cross Country season. I’ve been running for a few years but haven’t had the confidence to take to the roads. Any safety or general tips for a newbie?
I had the Mach 4 for a while, they didn't work out for me. I was interested in the Rebel 2 until I tried them on in the store. Much too soft for me. I ended up buying the Asics Noosa Tri 13 which have been great for me
love these uploads man i absolutely cannot relate to the reviews on account of i wear a 13 and most of my shoes about DOUBLE the "solid score weights" you give. honestly @185lbs its like a completely different sport--- but awesome content!
QD: How is the price point? Is it converted to overall quality? or durability? or both in certain category? as racers are often very expensive with lack of durability compared to daily trainers.
I agree with Raymond and think your durability estimates for Hoka shoes are way too generous. My Clifton 6's died before 400 miles (outsole and midsole) and my Mach 4's are wearing much faster (outsole).
I say rebel v2 hands down. I have like 6 runs in my rebels and I allready am going to buy a second pair. Where as the mach 4 I'm not so sure. The mach 4 took about 50 miles to feel like they weren't bricks on my feet and the rebels where magic out of the box. I don't hate the mach 4 but I don't understand people comparing them to other shoes that provide a faster and more fun ride
Is it fair to judge on weight with the different stack heights, not to mention the other features such as protection, upper tongue etc? Should there be some normalisation to a "relative" weight?
QD: New category maybe? Shoe for all or shoe for some- I’m a heel striker. At 3:40 of this video, I knew the rebel, which I was interested in, would not be for me. Huge difference in the heel width underfoot. It would bounce me all over the place. I know your heel almost never touches the ground(jealous), but I’d love to see some sort of foot strike/sweet spot score! Great work as always!
Nova blast it too different than the Mach 4. I don't see the Nova blast as a tempo shoe. I see it as an Easy day shoe while the Mach 4 can do easy day and a tempo. Nice ideas!!!!!
@@backyard1015 Is it? I found it hard to go easy on the Novablast... Its so bouncy that when i am running the shoe keep whispering me to go faster😅, and it is so effortless in those fast paces.
I'm wondering if there's a way to work in a "versatility" factor to the score? Maybe as an add on? like, plus/ minus/ star indicators, after the number? For example, some shoes are only good for tempo/ threshold. Some are great daily trainers. Some are tweeners. Maybe there's a way to add this indication to the score, and it would help others understand. Also wonder about these for a "stability" factor. I mean, shoes are rated as neutral or stability to start with, but some neutral shoes are more "loosy goosy" than others (like the Rebel V2, specifically). I think adding factors like this to the score would help people realize more about them, at a glance. I realize it's a lot to pack into a score (now instead of 8.72, the Mach4 would be say, 8.72+) ... just a thought.
Tried on the Mach 4 last week. Was blown away by the ride. Unfortunately, I need stability shoes and i think I'd have problems after a few runs so I passed on them. I understand the hype now. Great shoe by Hoka.
Hello Seth I’m a big fan from the Bay Area I have a question about your workout routines. Do you strictly run or do you incorporate some weight lifting to maintain leg strength?
Any score for noise of shoe😀 those rebels sound slappy slappy where as the Mach 4 is super smooth and quiet! Great video as always and I’m now tempted to grab the Rebel 2’s
Seth have you got any time line on when you will review the Asics Metarspeed Edge? I’m tossing up between it and the Sky and am very keen to hear your thoughts before I test both and buy.
Love the rebels, ran in multiple v1’s and v’2 and many (seriously many) fuelcell versions prior to these but here looking at Mach reviews because the v2 has a major flaw in durability that causes them to blow out in the uppers on the outside. I’ve worn so many new balance over the last decade and never had this happen. ( look on Amazon there are reviews showing the issue) so I do not want to buy another pair and have them blow out again before I get through my normal mileage
Seth. Im just wondering with your links to Running Warehouse if your able to get a link or code for us Australians to use on our RW site? Would love to be able to support the channel from down here. Love your work, keep striving mate
QD: great shoe reviews! I know you have already done a lot so it would not fit with the older ones if you do what I suggest...but it would be nice if it could have more difference in the scores in general. beacause everything falls into 6,8-8,1/10. Under 7 is bad and under 8 is exceptionnal. maybe your middle range could be extended to 6-9/10 (above 9 would be exceptionnal, bellow 6 would be bad and bellow 5 really bad).
Upper comfort - can you run blister free in the shoes without socks? To me that gets the highest comfort score especially in a race shoe. Toe-box - you seem to prefer a snug fit - needs to be clear during the review. A regular sized/shaped foot might not appreciate being wedged into those narrower toe-boxes (not looking at you Hoka 👀) For that reason I'd take the Rebel v2 over the Mach 4
Wish I had re-watched this before going and buying the Rebel V2 last week. Was trying for something different, but it just came off as something I need to be a lot faster for as it doesn't feel the best running in the 9:50s. And although the Mach 4 is also meant to be faster, it just feels like it will deal with me being slow and heavy better. So I grabbed that today.
can confirm that the mach 4 runs a bit narrow - for me only on my left foot. Lost my first toenail wearing that shoe as daily trainer and have not been able to use it for the past few weeks because it leaves that same toe swollen after even the shortest distance
Hey Seth, What is the slowest pace that these shoes works? Lots of people training on much slower paces then you youngsters. we look at reviews guessing the shoe it may also work for us. Would be so nice to also get this kind of info ..
Hey Seth, seeing as these two shoes can accomplish very similar tasks in a rotation, would you say the NovaBlast 2 could handle longer miles better than the Rebel V2? I have the Mach 4s already and am looking for something to replace my easy/long day shoe - NB 1080v10.
Having both shoes in rotation is it an illusion that the midsole on rebel has a greater curve forcing the foot to overpronate. I also have the NB RC and TC both with the same curvature. Seem to get outside pain on right ankle bone because of this. I have the Beacon which is no problem as there is no curvature to that shoe.
The Mach 4s are arguably the best trainers I’ve ever run in… The fit is uncanny, the sole is firm and I love how it propels me forward… almost like running in carbon…
Enjoy the shoe battles! Thanks. QD: isn't the scoring system relative to you? Meaning, your foot size (i.e., width of foot, arch, etc). So, for example, if a shoe fits like a glove and has a perfect lockdown...what about someone who has a very wide foot...the lockdown may not be so good. I do appreciate how you throw into your vlogs that a particular shoe may not be suited for this or that runner...press on Seth!
I was scared that my shoe was going to lose. It was a real battle. I was afraid a knock out punch was coming but glad it went the distance and won by a decision! Ring the bell 🔔
Imo the Mach 4s are too high stack height and are stiff (but not firm), I get hot spots due to not enough toe box and they encourage you to heel strike which, combined with the high stack height, makes for shock absorption in my hamstrings rather than my achillies and calves. I have no idea why this shoe was so highly recommended. Enjoying my Boston 10's much more for long distance training runs. Maybe the mach 4's will break in a little more but I'm already at 50 miles and no such luck.
I’m sorry but the Rebel v2 is Significantly better than the mach, the mach is stiff and you stop feeling the bounce after 50 miles, the rebel is far better
The Mach 4 is a very good shoe I bought them and tried them unfortunately they are as Seth said “narrow in the toebox” that is an understatement if your feet are narrow that’s a great shoe for you. I had to send mine back even though I wanted like them
The Mach 4 has been my go to daily trainer when I run road (only 70 miles on it so far due to mostly trail). I did try on the Rebel V2 this weekend. Loved the feel, but man does it look like clown shoes in my size 14. Bad decision on having the white strip run up the front like that.
1. Do you think some of the categories in the scoring system are more important than others? 2. Maybe there could be an extra category for other people to vote an overall score because everyone’s feet are different.
QOD: Can you add a calculator tool on your website, for us to put our own notes? I have wide feet and I would prefer to remove the price note of the final one
QD: Why do the shoes with soft and responsive midsole always win the ride and energy return score? To me, such midsole could be interfering to the work and my legs might not feel great after the run. Also, do all the scores weigh the same? I think it would be a better way to list the scores for each category together with the total score, so that we can add our own weight to different scores and have our own total score.
I went into a store today wanting some hokas and came out with the rebel v2's. I tried some hokas while I was there but I just wasn't Impressed with the ride or energy return at all. Kinda felt like my dead ultraboosts. When I tried the new balance rebel v2's coming from the Clifton's it felt like the hokas had dropped some weight and done a line of coke it was just so bouncy and light. The hokas fit very well but the ride just didn't impress at all.
Loving the Rebel V2 - no issues at all. Seems such a simple shoe too, not much to it and makes others seem overly complicated ( Infinity 2!). It's a fun shoe.
QD: hmm, major flaw alert - predictions. It's something that struck me just now, in a shoe battle - it looked as if we are comparing not what is but will be (possibly, really?) Durability has 2 faces: quality questions / longevity of design. What about the purpose difference? And if used accordingly, how will it affect the durability?? (e.g. if both are used the same way - no easy/long runs, then how will I enjoy them over time, which shoe will age quicker? ) Final thoughts - every review must be personal, and honest reviews is what I always receive from you. Personal also means very critical specs, like the foot shape, running technique and fitness level. All that with regards to a shoe sizing, shape and design features. In the end, me the viewer, must filter all that information with my own experience. So the battle continues in my head before I make a purchase... 😄 Well, I'm actually sticking with Rebel 1 🤣
What’s the lowest and highest score you’ve ever given? Wouldn’t that be a sliding scale for 0 to actual 10.0. How come there can’t be perfect shoes for the type of shoe it is ?
qod: can the scoring be streamlined even more for example 1 - 7 or 1 - 5? ranges between 1-5/6 seems pretty much a deadzone anyway and a 7 which is very average on your scale may seem like a pretty good score to the uninitiated. so a 7 would be a 3/7 which is clearer where it really stands on the quality.
So what rate Mach 4 for you?
It’s important to remember that these shoes scored this way because they worked for Seth this way. I returned the Mach’s after 3 runs because they felt like potatoes on my feet. Then again, they could be your favorite shoe ever, but you don’t know until you try them out.

It's not only Mach 4 overhyped but the whole brand Hoka. This brand is not only overhyped but also overpriced if you consider chip materials the shoe is made.

didn't try them long enough (just a few strides in store) to have more opinion
hoka shoes (at least bondi and clifton) are juste about comfort, at the expense of speed / energy return / fun factor, but if you buy them knowing that they're good

QD: So durability is part of the midsole score, but it has its own category as well... It counts double? 😉
I totally agree Patrick, Seth is very illogical and unscientific about his reviews.
@@lestermo809 Yeah he's all over the place.
@grayson good point. There is still overlap I would say. Anyway, no big deal. Just something the nerd in me noticed.
@@emmanueleng1160 Agreed. I love my Mach 4's personally.
good Q Shannon!
I think the highest rated shoe was the endorphin speed
@@novaknight402 I don't think so. I am pretty sure the Hoka ONE ONE Mach 4 got higher. The endorphin speed got only around 8 I think
Shout out to Jacobs RUclips channel. Another up and coming running vloger with some good stuff!
I was thinking this. Midsole trumps everything for me. I'm not picky about the upper. I'd still need to try them both on in real life as I could still see liking the mach 4 the best.
Yeah Mach4 is overrated. Feels like a shoe built for 20 years ago.
Would love to see a battle between the invincible and the novablast
KUFOZI made it.. have a look, really very interesting vlog.
I am running my first ever marathon Saturday and it will be in the Mach 4s, love them.
QD: based on the scoring system, the Mach 4 is better than the Endorphin Speed 2...hmmm (strokes chin, tilts head, and wrinkles brow)
I can’t wait to try the Rebel V2 because of the ride and energy return and the butter fell of the midsole!!
it was an exciting battle, I had confused which one is better for daily training. Thank you Seth!
I love my Rebel v2's. I tried on the Mach 4's but I was looking for soft and light and found the v2's to be amazing. Exactly what I was looking for.
Small request, would you be interested in sharing what your data screen looks like on your running watch. What stats you pay attention to when out.
Yes! I've always wondered what he sets. When I first got my forerunner 945, I spent hours trying to find the right set up.
QOD: Can the scoring for the Midsole include which is more fun and enjoyable to run in instead of just durability?
Hello - loving all you vlogs, best running channel for me out there
Can you please do Mach 4 vs Novablast 2?
Thanks
Are you going to test out Salomon ultra glide? Looks like a comfy trail running shoe. Hope ur having a good day :)
Really looking forward to this one!
Great review. Would be interested between a Mach4 vs Adios 6 battle. Historically I wouldn't line them up, but the recent stacks of Adidas' Adios line, makes me think their use cases are converging.
Thank you Seth. WHY don't you make a special SHELF for high score shoes one for the road & other for the trail, I think it's a good ides, isn't it?
I agree! Like a Hall of Fame shelf!
I just have never had a hoka shoe that the outsole lasted that long. I am a little heavier but hoka's wear down too quick.
The Hoka Clifton 7 and Bondi 6 both lasted me 400+ miles.
My Hoka Rincon 2s only lasted 270 miles.but, if you look at the soles, it was running on foam and little rubber.
Yes I need this too. Toe box is a determining factor for me.
Think seth is the only RUclips guy who loves the mach 4, seen loads of people say it hasn't lived up to the hype
This is the closest running shoe battle yet! I love the Mach 4, might have to try the rebel v2
If you like running on a cloud, grab the V2! :)
V2 is soooo good.
My Mach 4’s are also wearing very fast, I am pretty disappointed because I thought the rubberized sole would last longer
I am on the same boat, Mach 4's i now only started to like after 100km, Rebel v2 makes me smile every time in run in them.
Finally! Any possibility a vlog to compare Novablast 2, Rebel V2 and March 4?
Nova blast it too different than the Mach 4. I don't see the Nova blast as a tempo shoe. I see it as an Easy day shoe while the Mach 4 can do easy day and a tempo. Nice ideas!!!!!
@@backyard1015 Is it? I found it hard to go easy on the Novablast... Its so bouncy that when i am running the shoe keep whispering me to go faster😅, and it is so effortless in those fast paces.
The Mach 4 does run a little narrow. I have wider feet and it took a few runs to break in. Now they feel like butter.
Same here, i use them for long runs
I got the Mach 4 , it’s definitely a good shoe but somehow the Novablast feels better for me
I'm wondering if there's a way to work in a "versatility" factor to the score?
Try tossing in some insoles. They might correct your gait enough allowing you to run in a neutral shoe!
Hello Seth I’m a big fan from the Bay Area I have a question about your workout routines. Do you strictly run or do you incorporate some weight lifting to maintain leg strength?
Is there a chance that you’ll do Mach 4 vs endorphin speed 2
Any score for noise of shoe😀 those rebels sound slappy slappy where as the Mach 4 is super smooth and quiet! Great video as always and I’m now tempted to grab the Rebel 2’s
so, this shoe scored higher than the endorphin speed 1 and 2? Apples and oranges? Or an i just a Saucony fanboy?
I love your scoring system!! It help us a lot! Why did the Speed 1 had a lower score than the Mach 4 and still won the shoe battle?
Seth have you got any time line on when you will review the Asics Metarspeed Edge? I’m tossing up between it and the Sky and am very keen to hear your thoughts before I test both and buy.
Which of these 2 would you choose for a 5 or 10k race?
Love your work, keep striving mate
which one is easier on the legs joints?
I love my butter on the counter! 😂
Rebel V2!
Hey Seth, What is the slowest pace that these shoes works? Lots of people training on much slower paces then you youngsters. we look at reviews guessing the shoe it may also work for us. Would be so nice to also get this kind of info ..
@seth james demoor Is the size same between these shoes? Thanks!
Now, how about the Skechers Excess v Rebel as a daily trainer for beginner runner?
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thanx!
I have run in both. It’s not even close in my opinion. Rebel v2 by a country mile.
what does everyone do with their used running shoes?
Having both shoes in rotation is it an illusion that the midsole on rebel has a greater curve forcing the foot to overpronate. I also have the NB RC and TC both with the same curvature. Seem to get outside pain on right ankle bone because of this. I have the Beacon which is no problem as there is no curvature to that shoe.
The Mach 4s are arguably the best trainers I’ve ever run in… The fit is uncanny, the sole is firm and I love how it propels me forward… almost like running in carbon…
My Mach 4’s are only a few months old and the inside heel area has already got a hole about a cm wide on both shoes !!
So if you were to run a 5k that has about 40% grass and like 10% sand and 50% road, what shoes would you use? Thank you
Enjoy the shoe battles!
Rebel v2...no contest!
Maybe the mach 4's will break in a little more but I'm already at 50 miles and no such luck.
current long run shoe is Endorphin speed 1!
Are the Mach 4 really tight? I go up a full size normally in hoka
I had to send mine back even though I wanted like them
and why not a comparison between the hoka mach 4 vs. asics magic speed?
The Mach 4 has been my go to daily trainer when I run road (only 70 miles on it so far due to mostly trail). I did try on the Rebel V2 this weekend. Loved the feel, but man does it look like clown shoes in my size 14. Bad decision on having the white strip run up the front like that.
Would you wear either of these for 12 hour shifts on feet at work? Or too squishy?
Yeah baby!
Seth, please do a battle between Razor 3 vs Rebel 2
Rebel v2 now in NB flagship store on Oxford Street, London, UK costs £60! Just grabbed a pair. C'mon!! You can't beat that!
QD: for the fit score, do you purely base it on your own feet?
QD: hmm, major flaw alert - predictions. It's something that struck me just now, in a shoe battle - it looked as if we are comparing not what is but will be (possibly, really?)
Durability has 2 faces: quality questions / longevity of design.
What about the purpose difference?
And if used accordingly, how will it affect the durability?? (e.g. if both are used the same way - no easy/long runs, then how will I enjoy them over time, which shoe will age quicker? )
Final thoughts - every review must be personal, and honest reviews is what I always receive from you.
Personal also means very critical specs, like the foot shape, running technique and fitness level. All that with regards to a shoe sizing, shape and design features.
In the end, me the viewer, must filter all that information with my own experience. So the battle continues in my head before I make a purchase... 😄
Well, I'm actually sticking with Rebel 1 🤣
What’s the lowest and highest score you’ve ever given? Wouldn’t that be a sliding scale for 0 to actual 10.0. How come there can’t be perfect shoes for the type of shoe it is ?
qod: can the scoring be streamlined even more for example 1 - 7 or 1 - 5? ranges between 1-5/6 seems pretty much a deadzone anyway and a 7 which is very average on your scale may seem like a pretty good score to the uninitiated.
so a 7 would be a 3/7 which is clearer where it really stands on the quality.
