      Actually, the Ozark Trail 30 ounce tumbler costs less than $10. The 20 ounce tumbler was under $8. The YETI and RTIC costs almost 4 times as much. The performances are almost the exactly the same. It's no contest that the Ozark is the best choice by far.

    • @ryanlenz2370
      @ryanlenz2370 8 лет назад +6

      The Rtic 20oz tumblers are only $9.99 and the 30 oz. are $14.99 Not four times as much. The Yeti on the other hand is way over priced.

      +Ryan Lenz Even if you can find RTIC for $9.99, the Ozark Trail is still the smarter buy.

    This test approaches a true scientific test but the best part is at the end when he is smart enough to realize that the results are so close as to be basically meaningless. They all performed virtually identically.

      No. Be like all the others on here (whom I suspect are Yeti owners) and complain about using a room temperature spoon, etc., that skewed things to the point where the comparisons are meaningless! :)

      Dennis Monares I noticed the lid was looser on the Ozark Trail at first but I think they've changed it bc the lids for cups I bought last week fit better than the first cup I bought last December. it's noticeably tighter fitting.

    Best test I have seen yet. Closest to being scientific. The glass cup used to transfer the hot water to the test cups should have been brought to the same temp each time as opposed to using a cold glass cup on the first cup and a hot glass cup on the last test. Very good test though.

    The clear winner is the RTIC. It holds more ice plus therefore it would hold more liquid without the ice and it costs half of what the YETI costs. Good video btw.. clear, concise, and straight to the point. No bullshit or bias.

    • @korkiwi
      @korkiwi 7 лет назад +2

      Nope. The actual winner is Ozark Trail because they have a 40 ounce sized tumbler at walmart for $12.74. And as far as I know, Rtic and Yeti don't sell a 40 ounce sized tumbler.

  • @Genethagenius

    I randomly got one of the RTIC tumblers and I wasn’t familiar with the brand, I was familiar with Yeti and figured that the RTIC tumbler was just a knock off and wasn’t expecting much from it. Over a year later and I am still incredibly happy with this tumbler and surprised by it’s quality at that price! I am outside a lot in the summer in Georgia heat and the RTIC tumbler has been a G-d send for the heat! Keeps drinks cold and icee’s from the gas station cold even in that brutal Georgia heat! I have definitely become a fan of the RTIC brand and this comparison video shows why!

    Nice video. I bought the Ozark Trail 30oz. from Walmart for under $10. I liked it so much I bought one for my wife and a 20oz. for myself. Then we went back and bout 2 more 30oz. as backups. 5 mugs total, and I spent just a little more than what I would have spent for one 30oz. Yeti. I take my 30oz. everywhere and it stays cold all day.

    I will start by saying this is the first RUclips video I have ever commented on in my life. As a wildland firefighter, cold water at the end of a long day is amazing to say the least. I could not believe how expensive Yeti was and I was curious about RTIC. Thanks for the video it was a huge help and will save money. I posted this vid on a wildland firefighting page on FB so it will help others too. Thank you! RTIC it is for me!

    Thanks for the comparison video! The differences are very minute and I'd almost chock it up to manufacturing variances and where they are placed in the cold and hot environments. Plus, I'm pretty much sure these are all made at the same plant in Asia with a different stamp for each brand.

    Great video! I need to know who is worried about how cold their drink is 24 hours after they pour it though? That seems to be the ongoing argument from Yeti followers. "Well my beer will still be cold when..." My argument to that is that my beers are usually 98.6F within 1 hour of opening them if you catch my drift.

    Great comparison video, thanks for making it. I couldn't help but notice on the final test that the RTIC seemed to be positioned closest to the air vent and the ice trays were positioned for any air to sink straight down to it where the others had the ice trays somewhat covered from the top shelf. It's nitpicky, I know, especially with the difference being so negligible. I just couldn't help but wonder if it may have affected the performance at all. Either way, thanks again for the comparison. I didn't expect them to all perform so identical.

      Those folks are called idiots!! They think since it's a big brand name you're getting better quality. This test proved other wise. I did a 24hr ice test with a 20oz. Ozark Trail and a 20oz. RTIC. Left them on the kitchen bar at room temperature. They were both even with a 1/2 cup of melt water after 24hrs. I check them both at 12hrs. and they both had 1/4 cup of melt water. No way I would pay twice or three times the amount of money for one of these tumblers with this guys results!!!

    if you wanted to get technical, you are putting a room temperature spoon into the cups which could effectively lower the temp. Also by the time you pour the hot water into the cups it is no longer the temp you measured it at. You should have taken the temps right before you put the lid on the cups. Also, touching the ice with your hands can have an impact on how fast it melts. Still a very nice test.

    Thanks so much for this research. I have an Ozark Trail cup from Walmart. I bought the flip top replacement lid from there as well. The problem was after a month or so the hinge on the lid would break. It dawned on me that maybe Yeti made replacement lids as well. I just bought a Yeti lid for my Ozark Trail and the combination is working well. I was wondering if I should just buy a Yeti for my additional cup due to paying $10.00 for the lid. You answered my question. Keep the cheap cup; buy the better lid. (I have spent $10.00-$15.00 buying cheap replacement lids.)

I work 11 hrs days and keeps my drinks cold all damn day long and I only spent $10. Great job bro.

    Very well-done video. I appreciate the rapid pace without delays and well edited video. Very good presentation. scientifically done. I was always wondering if a Yeti cooler or Tumblr was worth it. I have to say at the price points in your video Ozark Trail wins hands-down. And I hate to admit that. Because a lot of the Ozark Trail products that I have purchased from Walmart for camping in the outdoors have been absolute crap. But I got to give them credit for this one.

    This was a good test. The only issue I saw that I saw was that maybe in the 2 hour freezer hot liquid test was when he did the temp check for yeti, it appears he might have inadvertently leaned the thermometer on the tumbler. This might account for the yeti’s slightly better performance. As he said the differences was negligible. I agree. I was gifted an RTCI moments before seeing the video. So, it is nice to know It is a good product. Thanks for the unbiased information and testing!

    good video just have a few problems with it. one you used the same spoon to stir all three cups before testing temp when you should have had separate spoons for each cup. two you did not me sure the amounts of melted liquid but did a side by side comparison amounts should have been measured in your measuring cup. three you called it the r i t c then the r t i c and back and forth, the cup is rtic as in arctic(marketing name gimic) not sure why you used each letter on one but said the names of the others.

      Jason Claiborne I was checking out the Yeti 20 oz cups at Dicks sporting goods and the first one I checked wouldn't sit flat on the shelf. A quick inspection and I saw a dent on the edge of the base of the cup. So if you drop one I doubt it will hold up any better than the other brands.
      Later at Walmart I was checking out The Ozark trail 20 oz cups and I found one with dents at the edge of the lip on top so it can happen to any of them as far as I can see. I bought the Ozark 20 oz after close inspection of the entire thing.
      So my only advice is whatever you buy, don't just grab the closest one to you and go, inspect them and make sure it sits flat and doesn't wobble with no dents.

    The cup in the middle always gets to be between to heat sources, I would've place them farther apart or in a triangle arrangement instead of side to side. Also the spoon thing, 3 spoons would be more fair. Also I would use just one ice cube in a shorter time span, that way the position of the ice cubes relative to each other is not an issue. I don't know if this would've have a significant impact on the results. Maybe, maybe not. I'm just giving feedback on methodology. The information is still useful, thank you.

    Great job! I agree they are almost exactly the same when you look at margin of error. I have a Yeti, but many of my friends use the Ozark because of price and likelihood that it could be lost in the mountains off of a side by side in a drunken stupor--passenger, not driver, of course...LOL. Going to share on Facebook for the holidays.

    In each test you use a spoon to stir the tumblers, but it is a cold spoon only for the first one you stir and it will slightly cool off the water and warm the spoon before you stir the next two. That's probably enough to account for the minor performance difference of the Ozark tumbler.

    Well done review!
    I'm starting to drink "bullet proof" tea and wanted a mug that keeps it hot.
    This video inspired me to check out the Ozark Trail.
    Picked up 2 of the 20 oz at wally world for $7.74 ea. One for home, one for work.
    Works very well.
    Thanks!

    My girlfriend and I were having this discussion tonight. We wanted to know which was the better mug between RTIC and YETI... to both of our surprise Ozark Trail was every bit as good for far less money. I hate to say it, but my next investment on a mug will have to be the Ozark Trail mug.

    I have two Rtics I bought on Amazon, and they work great. Engels are really similar, but they have screw in top that completely closes, and i like both features. However, since you can buy almost 3 Rtics for the price of the Engel, I will stick with them!

    as with any thermos you should precharge or condition them prior to putting in the liquid you want to put in - if you stick in something cold you should first get the thermos cold ( fill it with ice water, let it sit for a few minutes then dump) same goes for hot - add hot water then dump.

    Thanks! I ordered "Yeti" for Christmas gifts (my daughter told me about them and I got a "great deal" compared to the store we found that charges 39. each)...I ordered 8 (a special for ordering 5 and three at a discount...paying $280. PLUS)...when I discovered I could buy them at Wal-Mart (and picked them up in a small town we were running errands in)...I got 12 for just over $100.
    When I tried to contact the site I ordered them, the e-mail addresses no longer existed. I found another ad in my inbox from the same site...read the small print at the bottom...and followed a few clues that led me to a site selling nutrients. They offered me 25%, then 30% refund, I refused, finally they sent gave me an RMA and an address so we UPS overnite two days ago...we'll see if I do get my $$ back.

    Awesome test bro. Informative. Well paced. Clear cut. No BS. I prefer the Ozark Trail because for minuscule loss of performance you get a ton for your money. You can have almost 4 Ozark Trail cups for the price of one Yetti. Hand a few out to friends.

    If you perform each of these tests 100 times (or pick any random number), and you equally switch up which mug gets the ice/hot water first, you'll eventually develop a margin of error that will eliminate any discrepancies in the test procedures.
    All of Antlerscore's tests were so close between the 3 that they probably fall within a margin of error. In other words....these cups are most likely identical.
    Only obvious difference is the shape of the RTIC, which may or may not give it a slight advantage.
    But, at the end of the day when we're talking 1 or 2 degree difference, who really gives a shit! $30 mug is idiotic.

      The scientific method in the experiments was lacking in precision, though accurate it gave way to large amounts of error. I agree the margins are too big to make a consumer review, at the end of the day they all do their job, the only way you could improve the previous designs is through the use of ceramic / metal / inactive gas insulation. Even then the difference would be marginal, so the claims made about these cups are a bit ridiculous however kudos to the marketing team behind Yeti.

      Agreed. Did you notice that he used the same metal spoon to stir all 3 tumblers? The spoon absorbs heat! If he had used a different spoon for each tumbler, the results would be more realistic.

    • @TheMegabitGamer

    for the freezer test, you should unplug the freezer and just use the ambient temp of the freezer to cool the glasses. freezers have a fan that circulates cold air and that can have an affect on testing results.
    do i think this changed your results? no, probably not because they were all placed equal distance from the back of the freezer. but it is something to note for the future. nice video!

    I own the Yeti and Ozark Trail 30oz tumblers. I have never performed a side by side comparison, but the Yeti does significantly better at keeping cold drinks cold, compared to my Ozark Trail tumbler. I am going to have to buy a 2nd tumbler, since I forgot my Yeti in a rental car 6 states away from home.

      the Ozark has thinner walls than the other two, if you compare the weight you will see that difference. Thicker wall mean less damage received in a hard drop.

    The center cup did the best in each test because of temp protection by the outside ones. Best to test each in a separate box to reduce draft effect.

  • @MrObeast44

    The spoon going into Ozark Trail first on both hot water tests, likely changed the temperature of the water. Sure probably not by much, but when you are measuring to the tenths of a degree. It will skew the results.

  • @BusaFurian
    @BusaFurian 7 лет назад

    Great experiment. However, one critique. On the heat test you introduce a temperature altering element.. a metal spoon. Depending on the temperature of the spoon and the room this could slightly offset the your result especially going from cup to cup with the same spoon as the preceding cup alters the spoon temp. A better approach may have been to slightly shake the cups with their perspective lids then check the liquid temp. Otherwise great test, thank you. Bought my first Ozark, works great so far!!

  • @heathhunter5306
    @heathhunter5306 8 лет назад

    only thing i would do differently is pre-heat/cool the inside of the cups, as the thickness of the metal inside will determine the amount of temperature change effected for equalization. the rtic is likely thinner metal, requiring less equalization, otherwise i believe the results would have been more identical.

    ...the next test should also test over a long period of use. Which tumbler will retain abilities over a 6 month period, one year, 2 years, etc. Some of the tumblers eventually stop retaining the cooling/heating. If you buy a 7 dollar cup, but it only last a month and have to keep replacing them sooner it wouldn’t make sense to buy the cheaper one in the long run. So far the rtic cup lasted 7 months before I had to replace it. Next time I’ll try the yeti and also get the Ozark as a back up. 🤔

    You should use an incubator for normal temp and use 3 thermometers in each cup - since temp is a gradual change. It would be more consistent.
    Also quick question could I use ether of these mugs to hold soup?

  • @Ffollies

    Now this is how you conduct a comparison test. No blabbering on about what you ate for dinner the other night or trying to joke about your mother in law. Just quick, straight to the point testing. This testing confirmed what I suspected, that all these stainless steel tumblers have very similar performance as far as keeping drinks hot or cold. The only differences I can see are branding and the lids may be slightly different but other than that they're all almost identical. The biggest difference between all of them is of course the price. Yeti is like Starbucks, great marketing for an average product.
