Bandai 1995 Toy Fair Exhibition

- Back in 1995, I knew a guy named Jeff Rotter who worked for Bandai, and when I mentioned to him that my son Ricky was a huge Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan, Jeff gave me this crazy VHS tape.
It contained all of the product demonstrations from Bandai's exhibit at the 1995 Toy Fair, including TV commercials and promotional videos for multiple toy lines, most of which had not yet reached store shelves. It showed Power Rangers action figures and accessories that had never been seen before, and even previewed new Zords and enemies from both the TV show's third season and the upcoming Power Rangers movie. It also revealed upcoming toys based on Mega Man, The Tick, Masked Rider and Sailor Moon.
You can imagine how this video blew little Ricky's mind. He called it "the Bandai Movie" and he watched it over and over, practically every day, for weeks. For him it was like looking through a window into the future; he was the only kid at his school who knew that all this stuff was coming. There was no social media, there was no RUclips, nobody knew what a website was back then. Even ToyFare magazine was still two years away.
Now, 25 years later, it's still interesting to watch, but for different reasons. Some of these toys were never released, most notably The Tick Rooftop Fortress Playset, the Power Rangers Mini World Playsets, the 8-Inch Talking Mega Man Figure and the Mega Man Hangar/Dr. Light's Lab Playset. And some of the people demonstrating the products are pretty entertaining, especially the folks who dressed up as the Red and Pink Rangers.

These were all the Crown Jewels of my childhood .
Some things I noticed watching this today that make it an even more interesting little time capsule from before some of these names were finalized (or, I guess, less interestingly, could just be mistakes made by the presenters):
25:57 - the Red Ranger points out "Mercenary Skeleton," who would go on to be named "Rito Revolto" in the show
28:26 - the Pink Ranger holds up "The Masked Mauler," who would go on to be named "Master Vile" in the show
47:02 - the Sailor Moon presenter says the show is about "Victoria and her friends," but Sailor Moon's secret identity was "Serena" in the original dub
I miss the 90s. My favorite toys is masked rider,power rangers the movie and season 3,maga man and sailor 🌙.
It's exciting that we got a look at the talking Mega Man action figure from the Mega Man line which never got released, despite being a prototype.
The MMPR Season 3 presentations are really good, the Red Ranger guy is great.
I had the blue 8-inch metal ranger. Wow that was a great toy. I'd still have it up displayed somewhere if I hadn't chipped off most of the paint.

Speaking of lost media, that Bio-Man pilot from 1986 still survives in Miguel Nunez Jr. who played Zack/Biorhythm Green has a copy of this on VHS in his basement and Paul Schrier who played Bulk in MMPR has a copy as well and the holy grail of lost films itself, London After Midnight has been found and is coming to DVD next year!

The good old fashioned days. I truly miss Fox kids. The early days of cell phones and the internet. The best moments just watching all these great shows seven days a week like. Eek the Cat, The Animaniacs, Batman, The Tick, Bobby's World, Power Rangers. If you remember these shows your a true 90's person. I miss those days. The simple times back then.
Damn I didn't know Tick had that much merch loved the hell out of that show but buying Power Rangers, X-Men and Batman stuff never left roo for Tick.
I remember Quest for the Dragon Star but i swear they called it something else I think WMCA masters or something. Pretty much it was WWE but instead of wrestling it was martial arts. LOL they dressed all the fighters up like they were in Mortal Kombat that shit was hilarious.
If this did a clash with the RadioShack christmas toy promo ad 1993, oh boy it be an epic fest .
I never knew that Vampirus was originally going to be known as Ghoulwing, Rito Revolto was originally going to be known as Mercenary Skeleton, Steamy Meany was originally going to be known as Gas Phantom, both Erik and Merrick the Barbaric were both originally going to be known as Buzzsaw, The latter of which being an upgraded form until they found out or two different characters and that Slotsky was originally going to be simply known as the Casino Monster, Silent Knight was originally going to be known as Slashing Samurai, Calcifire was originally going to be known as Lizard Head, Master Vile was originally going to be known as The Masked Mauler and that Ninjor was originally going to be known as Ninja Warrior
I think those names were just generic placeholders they used at Toy Fair, since the episodes didn't air for 6 months, the scripts probably weren't complete in time.

It's interesting how fast forward to today, and the franchises are either fairly niche, only have Japanese merch, or remain present everywhere yet are now owned by a former rival company.
Too bad Bandai pushed their merchandising so much that it caused Capcom to cancel the animated series.

It's interesting how Saban's Masked Rider originally used not only Black RX but also ZO. For some reason, they didn't even make a toy for ZO and his bike

Apparently, they only promoted Season 1 of Sailor Moon. If you wanted the rest of the run (aka R and S; I don't know if NA even got the rights to Super S), you had to travel to Canada and buy the toys from Irwin. Also, wasn't Bandai to promote Power Rangers Zeo by this point? (That was profiled on the Bandai website in its infancy)
