    Beware manga spoilers in this video!
    The Stil Silver Arrow is one of the most infamous devices introduced in Bleach's story, but it's also a fascinating piece of the series' endgame. In this video, we take a look at the arrow itself, but also Ryuken Ishida's role in TYBW overall, to see how the Ishida family's conclusion came to be, and how Ryuken was instrumental in defeating Yhwach.

      the concept of the arrow is fine. if anything keep it, but they have to tease and build it up throughout the arc (anime) instead of pulling it out of the ass at the end

      It sounds like there's a connection between the "Silver of Stillness" and Mimihagi, who governed "stillness" as opposed to "progression/evolution". Mimihagi was the only thing that had until that point escaped Yhwach's gaze, leading to Yhwach being completely taken off guard when it rose up and protected the SK's body during the kamikake. I don't think Mimihagi is directly related to the arrow or anything (aside from being involved with the same concept of stillness) but I do think that it's for similar reasons that the Almighty could not see the arrow coming, and could also not see Mimihagi's actions. On top of this, there's also the possibility that Uryuu used his Schrift, initially shooting something else, then switching the target of that event to Yhwach so that he was instantly hit without the possibility of it missing its mark. However, I'm not sure that exactly fits the description of how his Schrift works (Reversing any event between any two chosen targets)

      I find it weird that I would have liked the arrow better if the concept was only slightly altered. If instead of Ywawch's ictims materializing his weakness, Ryuken gathered remaining energy from the holy selection to create an anti-quincy weapon that could imitate it on a smaller scale to disperse a quincy's powers. It makes more sense to me and also adds a level of irony with him dying the same as all the quincy across the world that he fed on.

    I really like the duality between Yhwach and Ryuken, the two most prominent Quincy father-figures in the story.
    Yhwach's whole character is based on his status as a Quincy, while Ryuken rejects his identity as a Quincy.
    Yhwach is known as the First Quincy, while Ryuken is the Last Quincy.
    Both of them are motivated by a personal loss. Yhwach wants to avenge his father, while Ryuken wants to avenge his wife.
    Both of them have very different ways of acting as parents. Yhwach sees his so-called children as nothing more then tools for him to use, but still considers himself as a benevolent parent.
    Meanwhile, Ryuken acts cold and dismissive of Uryu's desire to be a Quincy, but he still helped him when he needed it and trusted him with the weapon that would help them defeat Yhwach.
    Yhwach wanted to create a world without death, while Ryuken is a doctor, because he has dedicated his life to helping the living.
    I really like how Kubo made the two Quincy father-figures be such fitting parallels to each other, given their respective roles in the story.

      Was the Soul King literally Ywach's father though? I know that was something Ywach called the SK, but I don't know if that was supposed to be a literal or figurative thing. If it was literal, how could that be? Ywach was physically born somewhere, presumably far after the SK was stripped of his parts and turned into a linchpin. So I feel it'd be figurative, but even in that case I don't know what he'd mean by it unless Ywach's being a Quincy came from being born with some major fragment of the SK, like the SK's...."arrow"...so to speak. Am I just dumb, or is this as vague as I feel like it was.
      I wonder if this is covered in any of the light novels. I just bought CFYOW, and they've come in the mail, but I haven't read them yet.

    I remember wondering, when I read it originally, if the arrowhead wasn't just the silver from Katagiri, but also from Masaki and potentially all the mixed blood servants of the Ishida household who died. They could then add a new flashback scene, where Ryuken explains to Ishin what really happened to their wives that night and his plan for revenge.

  • @Hooya2007
    @Hooya2007 Год назад +124

    It's head cannon, but you could really flesh out the relationship between Ryuken, Uryu and Soken using Katagiri's death. Katagiri dies and in his grief Ryuken desperately searches for what killed her, even to the point of carving up her corpse and traumatizing Uryu. After discovering the silver, Ryuken confronts Soken and demands to know why he didn't warn them. That they could have done something/anything, and now Uryu is suffering and motherless because of him. His wife's death and this sense of betrayal drives Ryuken away from the quincy life (remember he was 100% for the quincy before this), and Soken in his guilt take Uryu under his wing.

    Storytelling-wise I think that the Still Silver Arrow is a great idea and the way that Yhwach was defeated by his "sons born in the dark" is very cool. Both Ichigo and Uryu derived their motivations from the consequences of Yhwach's actions. Ichigo's will to protect comes from Masaki's death and Uryu infiltrates the Wandenreich to get revenge for Katagiri.
    In the end Yhwach's decision come back to bite him and that's a pretty good way to defeat a villain.
    The only problem with the arrow is that it was introduced so late. If they showed it and its abilities a lot earlier, I wouldn't have any problem with it.

    I just realized that the Silver could be a reference to Judas's betrayal of Jesus, especially with Ywhach being a sort of adaptation of Jesus Christ with the whole Son of God and time passing twice as quickly in the mortal realm compared to Soul Society, making the Blood War take place 2000 years before the start of the arc in the mortal realm's years.

    The Gerard fight happens as normal but towards the end Isshin and Ryuken step in. Ryuken uses the arrow to stop the miracle and Isshin uses his bankai to kill Gerard. @@Superman54 Not just an ass pull, an ass pull that doesn't make sense.
      Yhwach died, and then rewrote his own death. Disabling his powers for a couple of seconds doesn't matter much. He was cut in half, he's going to survive longer than a couple of seconds after being cut in half and be able to rewrite his own death again.
      The fact is, the author wrote themselves into a corner with Yhwach's power. He is quite literally omnipotent.

      @Microtardz well, it's a bad asspull.
      However kinda feel like the answer has been in front of us the whole time.
      A lot of white/silver theme in the Quncy color scheme. Even the crosses were made of silver. Uryuu's quincy tools were crafted out of soul silver.
      So it makes sense that silver is a tool of the quincy to be lethal and to bind.

    • @joaquincortescasas8114
      @joaquincortescasas8114 2 месяца назад

      @@MicrotardzHow would he revive himself without his powers to revive himself???
      He couldn't use The All Mighty to see Uryu's arrow because either he was still under Kyoka Suigetsu or Uryu's Antithesis reversed the effect of it. He was screwed regardless of anything he had done, since he was fated to be killed by Zangetsu.
      Ichigo sliced Yhwach the same way he sliced the soul king.
      The father and son died against the only person who had a blade strong enough to shatter fate. The difference was that the Soul King saw his own death at the hands of Ichigo and accepted it, while Yhwach saw the same event, but deluded himself into not believing his own eyes.
      Also, ONLY Ichigo could've killed Yhwach since he was the only person who could kill the soul king as well. That is why Yhwach waited 1000 years, he needed Ichigo to be born to accomplish his plan of killing the soul king. But he failed to realize that would spell his demise as well.

    The silver arrow is a great concept. All the taking lives from Quincy backfired at Yhwach, an ultimate revenge from being bound to him in such cruel way. The world of Bleach being govern by Shinigami has it's flaws, and it is a curse that only Yhwach could change it. An idea that death would cease to exist is interesting, but looking at his character overall bet every soul would be bound to him in exchange, causing everyone to exist in a living nightmare of his omnipotence. Fate worse than death.

    I agree for the most part. I like that the arrow gives Ryuken a role in bringing down Yhwach and in turn avenging his wife. I just always thought it was so obvious how it should have ended. Ryuken shoots Ichigo with the arrow> Uryu uses antithesis between Ichigo & Yhwach> Yhwach uses yama's bankai while powers are down> Ishin uses his bankai or version of the final getsuga to carve a path for ichigo> Ichigo ends it.

They finish it and then run of to kill the Quincy king but get stoped by a powerful Quincy and so pass it to uryu to finish the job, then we get to see ishine s banki and those two have a bad ass fight scene stoping the Quincy from warning the king. I wonder if the arrowhead has a direct tie to Pernida and Mimihagi. Most of Yhwach's powers and actions are about advancement and his motives seem to actively negate the value of stillness. Auswalhen is a power that enables advancement, similar to the powers of advancement the Soul King possessed through his left arm, Pernida. However, the Soul King possessed the power of stillness as well in his right arm, Mimihagi. I wonder if the silver created by Auswalhen represents the fact Yhwach is still subject to the power of stillness, even if he attempts to discard it. Furthermore, stillness seems to be a power that protects or avenges those who would be destroyed by the reckless advancement desired by Yhwach. One could argue then that the arrowhead represents Yhwach's failure to embrace both sides of the Soul King's legacy. By abusing Auswalhen, Yhwach rejects the power of stillness, thus making himself vulnerable to its effects.

    Ryuken is such a cool character and I was always so disappointed that he was so sparsely used. If they could flesh him out more, I'd be so happy. I mean, for the most part, all we've ever seen from him is his weirdly abusive behavior toward Uryu. I do appreciate that he loved his wife, but what would truly make me happy is to see him show more to him. Like, maybe even show happy memories of little Uryu, Katagiri, and him so we can fully understand his grief. Show how much he cares for her and maybe even feeling empathy for a young Uryu who can't understand why his mom is dead which is what becomes his motivation. His vengeance. I'd especially love it if he and Isshin were shown battling some of the Sternritter there. Like, maybe they see Uryu and try to stop him so they get involved? Or maybe their presence alone motivates the Sternritter to attack them. Just something besides them delivering the arrow since Ryuken is LITERALLY wearing his Quincy garb for the first time since Everything But the Rain.

    To be honest, the arrow be able to hit Yhwach is still a plot hole and I can throughly explain without any type of headcannon speculation
    During chapter 684 When Uryu came to shoot the arrow at Yhwach, Yhwach had no recollection of what it was (The Arrow) that was coming at him; he stated, “What is this” he would’ve known what it was if the almighty was activated but for some reason it miraculously wasn’t. Even if you disregard that he can change a variety of futures to suit him so why didn't he change the future to the one where Uryu wouldn't be able to shoot him?
    If you say he can't do that then how do you explain him changing the future to break ichigos bankai. Not only that but Yhwach should’ve been able to foresee Uryu’s actions with the almighty regardless if the auswählen didn’t work on him as what some people might say, because when the almighty was transferred to Haschwalth he foresaw that Uryu was going to do a betrayal towards them and even foresaw how he was going to respond to Ichigo in chapter 661. The silver arrow has the power to temporarily stop yhwachs powers that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t have been visible for Yhwach to see it within the future something like how he couldn’t forsee the soul kings right arm.
    The antithesis had absolutely nothing to do with Yhwachs death. It’s just a clear plot hole. The reason as to why the antithesis is a counter to the almighty is only the because if Yhwach was to break a sword through the almighty Uryu would just reverse the effects to where the sword didn’t break. It’s like a recovery ability. It’s a counter because it can undo any damage inflicted on something that not only Yhwach with his almighty does but also what anyone does in general.

    Thematically him being killed by the arrow (an representation of his power) is fitting. In a lot of mythology (particularly Greek mythology) heroes undoing is often their hubris, particularly heroes that were the children of Gods. Not to mention it plays into the idea that “Only a God could harm a God,” as gods should be so far beyond mortals that mortals couldn’t touch them. So it’s fitting that the mortals had to harness the power of a God to harm him and that they essentially had to make him fall from godhood, if even for only a second, to defeat him. As a mortal shouldn’t be able, under any circumstances be able to harm a god.

    Instead of Ryuken coming with the finished arrow, he should have came with the unfinished one and we get father and son moment, while they are doing that, Isshin heads out to Ichigo to help him with Yhwach, where both of them give us their father and son Bankai and double Getsuga for old times sake(it did not happen during the old times). Then the father son arrow moments fired by Uryu, Then a dialog during or after fight of three of them, Isshin, Ichigo and Aizen, addressing the elephant in the room.
    I know it's an Overused trope but we needed a very very feel good moment between Ishida and Kurosaki family, it gives me fuzzy feelings in my tum tum.

For him to have forged an arrowhead, he probably would've needed two or even three chunks of the stuff.
