As soon as I saw you catch your slack in your lanyard, I knew I was watching the real deal. That’s the stuff the other guys cut, Joe, when it’s actually the clearest sign of a guy who’s consistently shooting straight with us, going through the hassle of self-filming as a service no matter how frustrating it can be, and has absolutely nothing to prove. Many thanks. You make us want to hit the river, Joe, and that’s the biggest service of all. Best to you and all the great folks at Red’s, and have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks so much, every time I do one of these it reminds me I need to just get off my ass and do more of this. Just going fishing and sharing what I learn each time out.
I alternate between loop knots and clinch knots, the Davy is fast I've just never taken the time to make it "habit". I should make an effort to tie only Davy knots for a couple weeks and share my thoughts on speed and strength vs. the ol' clinch.
Can you give info on amount of backing and amount of mono that you are using on the Guru E? Assume the setup is backing to mono to sighter to tippet ring to tippet?
Great question, I probably have 150 yards of backing with my mono rig just to keep the arbor full. I loop to loop the RIO Slick Shooter into the backing, then tie a tiny perfection loop in the end of the Slick Shooter (as I will put a little Skagit head on it sometimes), I went straight to 3X sighter on this video but I should have run a piece of 8# Maxima like 3' or so to help minimize sag during the drift. I'll build out a full leader and make a video on this at some point soon.
Well the 10' rod is going to be more accurate for placing casts into rocks, branches, or general cover. The 10'9" is better for large rivers and holding drifts at distance. The 10' 3 weight will pull leeches and larger flies over the bottom better as the tip isn't quite as squishy. Pro's and Con's to both.
It's 115 feet, if it gets damaged I can just cut off some and have plenty remaining. It's $19.99. I'm not sure it's the best product you do have to stretch it, but it works for me.
I run scissor hemos on P550 cord and run the knot through the center of my day's tippet through the center so I have my tippet ready at all times. Simple and works for me! I have another one made with elastic Para cord that I like better.
Love the chukar sighting. They always tease me when fishing too.
Yeah those chukars are so beautiful and feisty but tough to hunt.
Good stuff Joe. You caught thousands of fish and the excitement you have when you catch a fish is like the first time. Your joy is infectious
Thanks Kenny! Appreciate it and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks so much, super appreciate it! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
I love the way Bob is the star of the intro!
Appropriately positioned. Our director insisted.
Joe, you had me laughing out loud a few times with some of your dry humor...oh, and the fishing was a masterclass. Thank you for what you do!
Glad to hear it. That's what I'm here. Laughs.
Great tip on starting with one fly vs. more especially in the beginning. So true about the anxiety/jitters=more tangles
Glad to hear the feedback, thank you!
Way better watching your videos than the crap that's on TV. Thanks again for the great content. Next time..don't forget your film crew! 😂

The master at work ! (And play)
My work is play right?! Thanks!
@ you’re blessed! Great job, nice family!
Nice video. I feel like I just went fishing with you!
Glad you enjoyed thanks a ton!
That was a 40 minute guide trip. Love your cadence
Thanks, appreciate the watch thank you!
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Miss seeing you across from reds in the usual place
ahahahah ok Shan I'll get back to the standard beat and stay on my own turf. :) Jk.
I'm upstairs! nice Theo Von reference😂
The first time I watched that clip I spit my coffee all over my keyboard. That clip is so funny!
Also, I noticed that you use the clinch knot for flies, have you tried the David knot? I feel that it’s much faster

@redsflyshop Appreciate the feedback and looking forward to the video.
Joe, I just got the 10’ 3wt T&T…how would you say the 2wt 10’9 differs?

Joe - what is the length of the Rio blue shooter mono line you have on your setup?
It's 115 feet, if it gets damaged I can just cut off some and have plenty remaining. It's $19.99. I'm not sure it's the best product you do have to stretch it, but it works for me.
Joe - what lanyard setup do you use around your neck? Seems like a nice minimalist setup
