    Peter, I recently completed a new combination workbench and table saw outfeed surface for my table saw.. I drilled the top using your Parf Guide System. If anyone is on the fence about purchasing your system, they should not hesitate. I have had the opportunity to build a few projects and think of you each time I use those bench top holes to make the job go more smoothly. You did a great job on your system, and continue to do great work with your videos of updated products. Thank you from the USA :-)

    Hi Peter. Just got my parf guide so that’s me keeping busy over Christmas.
    Just a quick thought on other uses for the parf guide. I’m having an idea for making a shelf pin guide jig but using the 32mm hole spacing.
    Might be an idea for a video in the future. Different ideas and jigs that can be made with the parf guide.
    Thanks for your videos and ingenious inventions.

    Great job Peter. I have a top mounted to a very solid Kreg work table frame kit. One of the things I don't have is a hinge for the track saw track. Hi Peter,
    Its great to see how all these very useful products have reached the UK market because of your ingenuity.
    I have one wall mounted/fixed work bench I have a lot of items stored underneath. I have considered using your Parf Guide system to make the holes for using your range of UJK and Festool accessories on however this would means holes to be there permanently which means dust and small items get lost down the holes.
    Especially now you have the ability to chamfer the holes, have you and Axminster ever considered making plastic blanks to cover up the holes with simple plugs which are flush with the surface but are easily removed as necessary. Your chamfer will allow them to be designed not to fall through. Please let me know if there are reasons for these to be discounted. I could cover the holes with a second sheet for instance but do not think that is practical due to lack of expedience in getting to using the system.
    Just a thought that may not be fully thought through by me but I am sure has been by yourself. hence your thoughts would be appreciated.

      Hi Kenny, I did do a drawing and I think the injection moulding pattern was costed but it may have failed the marketing analysis. I will see what happened to the idea, it was a while ago. meanwhile a simple sheet of 6 mm plywood or MDF that fits under you bench and runs in a channel on each side. It would need to be set low enough for whatever you routinely stick in the holes - most dogs would only need about a 10 mm gap but the Festool clamps would need a lot more. Cheers. Peter

      @@NewBritWorkshop Hi Peter,
      Thanks for the reply. Thought you would have had a look at this already. As this style of system is getting to be so universal as far as woodworking is concerned, and can be seen as an industrial standard. I think this system has the merits to branch out. I would imagine that most people’s workshops are put to more use than just woodworking. For example, one of my main workshop tables is faced with heavy duty lino flooring and is also used for working on Lawn Mowers and small engines etc as well as woodworking. So, I am not concerned about grass clippings and oils getting anywhere, I don’t want it to go. I could use your anchor Dogs screwed down from the underside with a bolted eye on the top for tying down items tipped up etc if there is enough thread left. I have also parts of the workshop with Kitchen units topped with plywood again I have tended to use aluminium tracking or routered recesses for clamping rather drilling holes so the Kitchen units are not full of debris including small component’s you have laid aside on disassembling something. I have not used the 20 mm hole system due to the inability to plug it with something flush with the surface. Hence something like your Anchor dogs with no thread made of something like Delrin would be ideal. All of which I think is possible but it just comes down to cost. Like all these things, I have to ask myself the question, do I spend the time making the plugs myself or buy them in ready to use. Or stick with work surfaces with no holes and use other methods to accomplish tasks such as Holding down items of various sizes and shapes or ratcheting things apart or pulling into alignment.

    The accessory kit is totally awesome and opens up many possibilities for MFT style table use. I might not ever need a vice with your extra bits. I am soon to get the Parf Guide system (V2) to build a couple of tops for jobsite use with a track saw.
    When building the actual tops, is there any issue with using a Baltic birch ply (18mm) versus the typical MDF? Whichever material I settle on, I would like to seal the top with water based poly and did not know if that would affect the accuracy of the holes. Most tops I see are completely untreated. Any info or alternatives for moisture protection would be appreciated.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  5 лет назад

      Hi Andrew, I am not a fan of any type of plywood for a cutting station top. You are more likely to get breakout when drilling the 20 mm holes and the top will probably be more expensive, particularly if you are using Baltic ply. Also, I have found that ply tops need replacing sooner as they seem to get beaten up faster than MDF. There is no problem with applying poly but do it BEFORE you cut the holes as you do not want it to drip into the 20 mm holes and give an even tighter fit for the dogs. Good luck. Peter

      Hi Richard, I do not have the Dewalt system and have never seen their track. The Rail Clips are specifically designed for the Festool track. The Parf Guide System is independent of the manufacturer of the guide rails and saws as it provides the accurate layout of the 20 mm holes. The bench dogs you choose are also independent of the saws and tracks as the track is pushed against the tall dogs. Peter

    Thank you Peter. i have many of the UJK Parf products and really enjoy them. i have only one gripe... tolerances are so tight that your parf dogs just won't come out of the holes in good quality 19mm MDF... i have tried your gizmo and it just wont come ... any suggestions?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Izak, It is due to the very tight tolerances and the nature of MDF. Very small "hairy" threads of MDF line the inside of holes that have been drilled. If one drills quickly with too much force then these threads can be significant. Also, they change with humidity. I use a "pecking" motion when drilling - drill a quarter of the way through, withdraw a fraction, then another quarter and so on. I have 3 remedies for holes that remain tight: You can apply a thin coat of Vaseline on the inside of the hole. You can carefully re-drill an offending hole using the 20 mm jig. Or, like me, make an extraction tool out of a scrap of wood. Axminster and I have discussed changing the tolerances but we always agree that it would reduce the accuracy of the system. I am sorry if none of my suggestions help. Peter

      @@NewBritWorkshop Thank you for your answer. These are good suggestions and i will give them a try!

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  5 лет назад

      Hi Izak, I hope it works okay. MDF is a strange material. I use really good quality Medite MR yet across a new cutting station, done with the same 20 mm cutter, some holes will be tighter than others. I have found that some will loosen with use and others will be tight if not used for a long time (as though the hairy MDF threads are growing ! ). The ultimate solution is to leave your dogs in the same place for sawing. That is what I do on my large tracksaw cutting station and it removes all problems. One other interesting thing about MDF - air can pass through it - I have used a vacuum clamp to hold a piece of MDF and found that another piece of wood can be held in place on top of the MDF. The clamping action is not especially great but it is significant. Cheers. Peter

    • @MrIzaks
      @MrIzaks 5 лет назад +1

      @@NewBritWorkshop Hi Peter, my setup allows me to keep just one dog at the same place and i do leave it there. Its more of an issue when i need to clamp something in the middle of the surface. My solution was to create on the lathe few dogs that are a hair looser and that works well.
      I will try your other suggestions and see if it helps.
      By the way, do not see any of these issue on a really cheap 16mm plywood.
      Thanks, Izak.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  5 лет назад

      Hi Jim, The tolerances are tight in order to get greater accuracy but it is also the nature of MDF. Or, like me, make an extraction tool out of a scrap of wood. I leave my various dogs in place on my tracksaw cutting station but if one inserts and removes them frequently then the holes do loosen in time. That is something that we have to bear in mind as the holes must not become sloppy as they were on my Festool made MFT3 top. In this video the top is one that I created about 18 months ago and I use it for demos a lot. Axminster and I have discussed changing the tolerances but we are concerned that customers would not wish to reduce the accuracy of the system. I am sorry if none of my suggestions help. Peter

The 96 mm spacing was adopted by Festool and several other companies and so it made sense to keep to this spacing as there are a number of after market accessories that rely upon it. Peter

    Hello Peter. I am desperetly trying to contact you. But I do not want to put my email adress here so every body can see my email adress. I do not see the option to send you a private message. I would like to buy some of your products. Best regards from Switzerland. Christoph

      Hi Christoph, I do not sell any of the "Parf" kit but if you go to the Axminster web site you can buy them and they will deliver to you. www.axminster.co.uk

      Hi Christoph, I have given you Axminster's details for the products. In order to get plans or to contact me via email I need your email address. RUclips no longer has a private messaging service and so in order to get in touch you need to place a comment on this or any other video with your email address. The RUclips software should identify and send it to the spam folder for The New Brit Workshop. Nobody will be able to see your email address except you and me. I will then send you the plans or respond to you by email and delete your comment so that it does not end up in the public domain. Were we to do this the other way around then my comment, with my email address, would appear for all the world to see. Please let me know which plans you need each time you get in touch. Peter
