Cura: The prefix MSM is the First 3 letters on the Printer you have selected. Yours was MP Select Mini, so the file name prefix is (M)P (S)elect (M)ini.

That makes sense. It's not all the info I want, but I might start adopting that (since I now have multiple printers).

Wow, I downloaded newest version of Cura 2.3.1 to test slicing models to print on my Da Vinci 1.0. I was looking up configuration info and had just sliced the Adalinda dragon from Thingaverse and started printing then your video pops up telling me things I was looking for on how to set it up..... Its like you knew I needed help...... great video as always!

Don't tell anyone, but I rushed this out because a little bird told me you needed it. ;)

I like your videos and will recommend them to a friends child I am teaching.
I still run Cura 15.04.6 on an off line Win 7 Machine. Cura 4 is a huge piece of bloatware that wants me to cloud connect and patronize their vendors. I tried loading Cura 15 on a Win 10 machine and Win 10 does not support the Python version that Cura 15 uses. I have the same problem with Blender 3.0.0.
Prusa Slicer looks like a nice clean piece of software though I have not printed with it yet. I have set up a printer in it and gone through its functions. It is very impressive.

A bit of a clarification: In Cura, you mention that you wanted 4 walls. What you put in was 4mm, which would be 10 walls, since the thickness is .4. If you wanted 4 walls, you would put 1.6 for the mm measurement. You would be using a lot of material for a solid fill for those walls. (I see that you refer to it correctly in Cura2.)

You are correct. And I knew that, I've mentioned that to people before, but when it came to sit down and do the video I went stupid. That's alright, I'll fix it in the write up.

Is there a slicer that has a "tessellation" feature? To make objects with few polygons that are meant to be smooth / phong shaded automatically smooth in position? So that for example those triangulated quads on the tornado vase will be turned either into finger tesselated and smooth quads and output smooth tool paths?
Not sure if STL even supports smoothing groups and normals though. Might need to use OBJ or other files.
EDIT: Ironically STL means standard tesselation language while apparently not supporting tesselation because of the lack of smoothing groups / normals.
PS: Btw your real name is showing in the simplify 3D video section :)

So far, no. Most slicers do very little to modify the model, and nor should they in my opinion. If you want to smooth the mesh take it into Blender or MeshMixer and modify it there.

Hey on the Cura 2 tutorial I see at 23:16 that you have set 2.85mm diameter for the material, isn't the MP Select Mini 1.75mm?
Also MSM is the acronym of your printer, you can disable this in the General Preferences "Add machine prefix to job name".

Good eye. Good think I didn't try printing with it. Or maybe I should. Could be pretty.

Good Cura2 video, but I have been having trouble with printing supports. Can you make custom supports in Cura2 and make them thicker?

Cura2 does not have options for custom support and support settings like what you're trying to do. The only slicer I know that does that is Simplify3D.
