White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane) - How To Play THAT Bass Riff!!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 июл 2021
- This week I’m going to break down an incredibly famous riff that some of you may have pondered over long and hard. It’s the opening and verse riff from the song White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane played by the great bass player Jack Casady.
This riff features three finger picking a la Billy Sheehan. I'll be breaking down the picking technique as well as giving some tips on fretting hand muting which I use here to get that dead sound on flatwound strings.

Somebody to Love would make a nice sequel. Then maybe Vanilla Fudge You Keep Me Hangin On.
damn, yes please!
Great Idea - Somebody to love is a fantastic tune
Good idea- that is a killer line as well.
I’m struggling with somebody to love. Much harder than I thought. Good call
Good choice of bass line, I'd love to play it. Anything from the Surrealistic Pillow album, really.
Really like the Sherwood Green Fender Jazz Bass you’re playing. Nice tone Mark.
Nice been waiting for a bass tutorial on this :D
Jack cassidy the voice of God great bass player one of the best bass players ever
You can just as easily play the gallop part with two fingers or a pick, but it’s a good lesson/exercise to develop your three finger technique. That’s how I’m approaching it.
There are so few studies of pieces played by Jack Cassidy, I appreciated this one very much. I'd love to see something on Chelsea Hotel from the Airplane's Bark album, as well as on Lather from Crown of Creation
Dislocated my index finger on my picking hand last Wednesday, so I'm practicing this with up and down strokes, using my thumb 👍
You can do it. Hang in there. ✊
Thanks a lot. I enjoyed that.
The Troopahhhhhh! ;) Great lesson Mark!- Best wishes from across the pond!- Brent
I'm use to playing this with 1 finger flicking really fast...thanks for breaking down the 3 finger technique
Brilliant!!! Thanks for sharing this with us 🔥🔥😎✌️🔥🔥
Excelent lesson and excelent song 👌
Thank you so much. Have wanted to play this for eons. Song has meaning for me.
Such a great song! And I absolutely loved the remix that was on Battlefield Vietnam! 😆 🤣 😂
Great Lesson!
Another bassist that used the 3 finger technique was Percy Jones of Brand X.
This technique is on my to do list. I’ve come across a couple variations on this technique to try out. The left hand mute demonstration was helpful. Thanks for you videos.
I have an extensive lesson on 3 finger picking here on RUclips. Just search 3 finger picking technique for bass and you’ll see me. It’s a fairly old one.
Great lesson song brings back memories
Awesome
El mejor profesor en línea, gran canción para esta semana
Dude , you have my bass, i had to look in my room to be sure its still there! Never realized white rabbit had such a cool three finger picking going on , nice find, something new to jam on, thanks
Awsome song good choice for use of triplet very original!
He knows who Alex Webster is. Impressive!

@@talkingbasslessons This is the first video of your I have ever seen. And really, the shock of hearing his name drop during a tutorial of something so completely opposite of death metal... Was a pleasant surprise. Rest assured that I'm going to be watching more of your videos now!
Love it!
Nice lesson!
I think that Cassady's lines (and Jefferson's songs at all) should be honoured for more attention, not only WB or Somebody... One of my favourite lines are Tobacco Road and Ice Cream Phoenix. Охуенный бас)
..Jack plays this on the D string. Check out the 'live' TV footage on YT.
Very beautiful sound. Congratulations on your performance.
Which model is this Jazz Bass?
Thanks
Cheers. It’s an ‘82 Japanese Fender Jazz
Thanks a lot!!
I won't lie, at :50 I started to zone out. I need to know this Pronto!
It sounded very picky on the recording, so I was trying to do it with a pick. I'll try doing it the right way now.
GOOD VIDEO MARK
Mark, how can we focus on the lesson with that gorgeous j bass distracting us? Once again your taste is on par with your instruction my friend.
I wonder if JC played the riff an octave lower in an extended version. Sounds good down there too.
So weird I was just thinking about learning this riff when I heard the song a couple days ago.
Would love a galloping lesson on Knights of Cydonia by Muse!
Am I allowed to play this with four fingers instead? 😅
I’m a little confused. So is the plucking fingering for this riff 1 1 3212 1 2 1?
Could you please explain how to play Shocking Blues - Venus
Can you add a link to the actual lesson material? I cannot find it on the site.
even though its a simple riff its quite fun to play.reminds of that simpsons hippy episode
Mark you have a cold, rest up dude x
Yup. My nose is clogged to the max and I feel like a bag o' spanners
Thanks, Mark! When I was figuring it out I couldn't tell if he was playing with a pick or what was going on, and decided a 3-finger technique as you describe was as close as I could get. Unfortunately, I didn't consider any muting and left the MFD pickups on my G&L on "full clank" mode. ruclips.net/video/G2BsInkIKm4/видео.html

HELLO, I just wanted to ask you if you could make a very nice and simple step-by-step video for beginners. I interested in learning the bass please help.
Already done one. Just search for beginner bass and you’ll see that and a ton of others by me. There are nearly 500 Talkingbass videos here on YT. There’s also the Beginner course over at Talkingbass.
@@talkingbasslessons Can you make a playlist including all the videos in it so it will be very easy to save the playlist and follow the video step by step and understand which one is most needed and the next video so it will easy to understand and follow the lesson.
@@daniel-or2pg The lessons on RUclips aren’t made with any kind step by step progression. They are just random videos on a variety of topics demonstrating my teaching style. For what you are wanting you need the courses at the website.
@@daniel-or2pg I realize you're just starting out and wanting to learn Bass guitar. Which is great, I wish you the best! But, I'll give you one of the first lessons you should know if you aim to succeed in music. Two very important words "motivation" & "drive"! You have to be willing to put in effort yourself, striving to better yourself everyday. No one can do it all for you, here Mark is giving you so much FREE knowledge in Bass playing, with many lessons from the basics to advanced skills. Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean, but go find them yourself and appreciate all the FREE knowledge @TalkingBass you're getting here that I never had when I started playing? All I had was a Mel Bay book, and my records, very scratched records after I was done learning a song. Go get it! +++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul+++ \m/(>.
@@daniel-or2pg Or better yet, take Mark's course on Bass playing @TalkingBass!
Turn the volume for the bass up
Let me guess...you’re watching on a phone
Plug in your headphones.
Bass is PLENTY loud.
I always thought he was a pick player?
remember to micro dose before the lesson
Nah. Full DMT Turbo Mode. The lesson should look like the end of 2001
@@talkingbasslessons my bass neck turned into a living cobra and now I'm too scared to play.
Thanks for this video that’s showing me how to do these things a lot easier! I’ve had trouble playing real fast like this and was telling my friend about it citing this song as a perfect example. I could never move my fingers quick enough plus when I tried it was painful in its own way.
i like the slapshot version of this song.
Jack was, in my opinion, the best electric bassist of the 60's
Yeah Jack Bruce was pretty good.
sounds like a super mario bros. 3 level
I don't care about drugs, and the ones my Mom gac=ve me worked for what ever problem I had at the time, I hate songs that teach people to get down on their parents, This is crap and GOD is testing hearts.
