    After 35 years of playing guitar I finally bought my first bass - Man it's so different! The gaps between the strings are huge and the frets seem so far apart. Thank you for this lesson - A great song and a brilliant teacher.

    I agree, Stuart. This is a great tune for those just starting to pick up the bass. A well executed tutorial, at that. I've found that trying to replicate Tina's tone can be a bit challenging. Realizing tone and feel are unique to the player's fingers, Tina plays main riff using alternate index/middle fingers on an open A, then down strokes of her thumb on the open E to G, then back to alternating fingers on the open A. Tricky for beginners, and once they have the basics down with the tutorial, they can give Tina's technique a go. Cheers.

    Just switching to bass ukulele from the concert uke to give our uke group some percussive impact, I have my work cut out for me as I'm a newbie. I really appreciate how clear your instruction is however as a beginner I wish the tab was scrolling across the screen too so as to avoid trying to focus in two places as well as the instrument 🙂 I'm sure it will get easier with time, thanks for providing this resource.

    This is excellent! Some of the videos and transcriptions of seen on line make both that 1/4 note descending line in the middle and that repeated bit in the Outro absolutely excruciating. You whittle it down to the bare essentials exquisitely.

      @@StuartClayton There's this video by somebody called Harry Music & Stuff that has for the Outro 5th fret on D string going to 7th fret on A string, followed by 7th fret on D string to 7th fret on A string (descending minor 3rd to descending perfect 4th, which is both the notation and the tabs). It takes some work doing that to tempo! Your version is much easier, especially when having to repeat it at length! :D

    Thanks for this, combined with your lesson and studiously playing along to the track I was able to pick it up in a few hours. I would have found it helpful if the structure of the piece had been demonstrated a bit more clearly though. Maybe a run through of the finished song at the end with a spoken accompaniment explaining structure positions would've helped beginners knit it all together. _I couldn't help but chuckle at the titling you gave the chapters in this video though, @ __6:29__ you've named the middle eight section description as "Midlate"_ - Ta muchly for that! From now on I shall only refer to middle eights as "midlates" purely to infuriate any Yngwie Malmsteen wannabe guitarists I may have the misfortune to meet!
    Thanks again fella.

    Great lesson Stuart, particularly regarding technique. I'd been playing the middle 8 wrong all these years and you have set me straight. Also, love your tone. Are they stock pickups in the Jazz Bass? Also, what strings and amp/interface setup are you using to record this? Thanking you in advance.

    • @StuartClayton
      @StuartClayton  4 года назад +4

      Hi John, thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, stock pickups in the jazz. No idea what the strings are, but there's no amp in my signal chain and I'm recording into an Apogee Duet. Tone is mostly in the fingers/instrument! Hope that helps.
