- Today I am sharing a family weekend away on the Norfolk Broads. We hired a houseboat for the weekend and took our friends with us. It was Rory's 11th Birthday and we just had the very best UK staycation ever..

Glad you enjoyed your weekend away, Norfolk is beautiful. However in the future and this is said out of concern and no malice, please make sure your kids wear buoyancy aids/life jackets. 14 minutes 40 secs in especially, the little girl could quite easily fall in and she won’t be where she falls as the water is tidal and the current moving the water is unpredictable. Only said for future reference as I fell in from a still boat last year and the life jacket saved me . 👍
Looks like you had a wonderful time. However wearing life jackets is a must for children. Seems you dumped them soon after departing.
It is illegal to be the helmsman on a boat and be drunk, the breathalyser comes comes into play if you are involved in a collision or accident! It is also advised that Life Jackets should be warn when moving about the deck especially by children and when mooring.

Growing up we had a two week holiday on the Norfolk Broads every year. I still remember our favourite boat was called Swiftway. I eventually moved to Norfolk in 2000 and live in a small village by the sea 😁
me too.. we used to do a week a year and it was so much fun.. I remember those days fondly.. I hope our kids remember their holidays like I remembered ours xxx

Did you rent it through a company? I’ve been looking to do this but not sure where to start (we’re in Brighton so maybe somewhere in Brighton Marina that does it but I just don’t know) Was it super expensive to hire?
They hired from Ferry Marina in Horning, a very good company to deal with in my experience and handily situated. Boats are a bit expensive but if there's a few of you going you can of course share the costs. The Broads are good as there are no locks to worry about and tides only affect you in some areas but it can get very busy. You can get an idea of the Broads from Google Earth and vids on YT. Give it a try it can be very relaxing. P.S. I don't work for a boat hire company :)

That was lovely to watch. We hired a boat in Ireland a few years back, we have also done a canal boat holiday. This brought back lots of memories. You were very lucky with the weather too, that makes such a difference. I've never seen an icecream boat before...that was fab.
Aahh we honestly had such a brilliant weekend away and I got some serious holiday blues when we came back! It was so fun to be on the bit together.. there is always something to do :) xxx
You need to go on a canal next time and try going through locks, they keep you busy 😀

our cost £1800 for the weekend.. its quite pricey but then again.. all UK staycations are pricey at the moment!!! xxx

You kind of missed out . Fill your boat full of overnight treats for all .Go out on Barton Broad and drop the mud weight. As night falls, bird life otters all come to you.

Norfolk Broads are lovely we used to live in Martham so not far from Wroxham.

I absolutely love the broads, especially Wroxham....I haven't been for about 5yrs as I am not good handling getting on and off the boats now. We stayed in the apartments and the cottages on the riverside which are so good too, but miss the boats x
oh I would love to stay in one of those... we said that when we were going along that it would just be so lovely to stay in one of those xxx

Looks like you had a fabulous time, so lucky with the weather. Brought back happy memories of going on the broads when I was young. We also love Norfolk, brilliant for dogs. Hope to move there in the next couple of years. We also way have good weather and we go out of season. Love you channel. X

For children from about eight years it is a perfect holiday and, when you mud anchor and if you have included the dinghy option*, the children can go off all 'Swallows and Amazons' meeting other children similarly rowing and sailing around! Childhood bliss!
*Dinghies can be towed behind. Children going off on dinghies should always wear buoyancy aids. Waterproof, floatable two-way radios are available from Motorola and others, e.g. TLKR T92 H2O Quad. Malthouse and Wroxham Broads are particularly suitable for children to explore themselves. Top tip: hire a boat with enough permanent berths for everyone otherwise you have to make up temporary ones every night.

Fact about the Opal Emblem boat someone died on this boat August 2020 they fell off the boat while coming into Yarmouth from breydon water and got caught in the propeller at Yarmouth Yacht Station but at the time the boat was called Diamond Emblem but they changed the name after the incident due to it being allover the news so the boat yard didn't want people searching it up when booking and see what's happened on the boat and puts them off

We went to Lancashire a couple weeks back and one of the things we did was ride down the canal that was connected to the marina that we stayed at on my Grandad’s boat. It was quite a bit slower than the boat that you went on. He also has a static caravan near there as well. ♥️

what a stupidity ... an exclusive motorboat along smelly canals. Why such a motorboat when there is nowhere to use it.
In Norfolk you can kayak ...all boring, no ports, no freedom of sailing, nature and animals very poor. After all, most people here have not seen a real lake 😏🤣
I enjoyed it, yes, but really.... you're a seafaring nation..... You really should have a basic understanding! Had a good chuckle with your struggles love your channel.
Boating is expensive and not necessarily a very accessible thing to learn. For many families, something like this would be the trip of a lifetime.
We should really know how to handle boats living on an island but not many of us actually use motored boats.. we have paddle boards and kayaks but thats about it! Driving this huge boat was alien to us! heheh.. but so much fun!!! xxx
