When I was doing my high school down in Costa Rica I heard from the 2nd movie in the Max Mad Saga. The first one never saw the light of the day because it was banned.
Funny the original mad max 1979 was ultra cheap b-movie like battle truck. But if mad max still looks good, the battle truck always looks like garbage in 80s and nowadays .
For a country like NZ that supposedly hates guns and violence, there certainly is a lot of them being used in this film. Ironically, NZ has banned movies for less. The love scene by the fire with the cheesy background music when the heroine at 4:01 adds her 2 cents is corny and a waste of good celluloid in my humble opinion. Would have liked to have seen some tattoo faced Maori warrior bruisers break out in a war dance instead. But I'm not a director am I?
Oh yeah, that would've been a good idea hahahaha. Another thing about that country is that there are more sheep than people. They actually made a horror comedy, back in 2006, called Black Sheep lol.
what are you on about? ......stop making up bs.......about the guns and banning movies. If you use the States as a benchmark as " liking guns' then just about every country in the world short of war zones and 3rd world hell holes must hate guns NZ doesn't hate guns....they just made it harder to get guns that you can easily shoot up schools with......but back in the 80's they were readily available too
Suggestions for the future: Halloween ( 1978). Pumpkinhead ( 1988). The Gate ( 1987). Creepshow ( 1982). The Pit ( 1983). Pet Semetary ( 1989). Street Trash. Mansion Of The Doomed. Meatcleaver Massacre. Night Fright. House By The Cemetary. House ( 1986). The Tell Tale Heart ( 1963). Frankenstien. Dracula. The Wolfman. The Mummy. The Invisible Man. Cathy's Curse.
Finally, someone did a review, and I do not agree that it is an awful film. But thanks for doing a review regardless. I think what you have got wrong about the review with this film was that it is not meant to be another Mad Max film, It was just simply a story about a a General and his mercenaries who have gone rogue, stole the armoured battle truck and are now marauders plundering the rural regions. It is not meant to be an high adrenaline action packed flick like Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior. What you need to understand is what was happening politically around the world during the late 70s and 80s with the height of the cold war and all the tension in the middle east. People where feeling the pain with fuel prices going up and chance of the threat of nuclear war. (We are currently are seeing a reprisal of it now). To me, I just see this film as another kind of apocalypse adventure similar to the 2009 film the Road. They all don't have to be like Mad Max movies. I enjoyed this film better than Mad Max 3 - Beyond Thunderdome, Mad Max 4 - Fury Road, & Mad Max 5 - Furious that Max wasn't in his film. Have you watched the latest Mad Max? Now that's awful, or any of those Disney films or Marvel and DC superhero films that are for infantile minds. I mean, I must agree with Martin Scorsese on the fact that most films today are just boring CGI theme-park rides with the most uninteresting characters and story plots that you just don't care what happens. I have tried multiple times to watch some of them and they are shit. I cannot get past the first 20 mins of Guardians of the Galaxy or the Thor films or Pirates of the Caribbean, I mean oversaturated CGI garbage effects all the time with either boring characters or ones that are over acting to being annoying ( I telling you look at Johny Depp as Jack Sparrow such an annoying over the top fucktard; "I am turning the movie off now wierdo".). All the females characters now are narscitic Mary Sue boss bitches and the males are pathetic weak clown pansies the only interesting characters are the villains which is sad. I mean the bit where Hunter rides and jumps the motorbike into the back of a moving truck, NO CGI. The helicopter flying above the truck driving through the narrow gateways was a challenge to the driver looking through the mounted windscreen lovoures. Re-watch it for the stunts and the camera work. Have appreciation for what they had to work with and did stunt wise back before CGI. I was lucky enough to work with a man who knew the driver of the truck in the film. Funny story in the opening scene when the truck mows the old servo/lemonade stand down the windscreen louvres accidentally shut on him just as he was tearing down the road for that manoeuvre at about 80km. He could not see where the hell he was aiming. He was also asked to go and work in Hollywood as a stunt driver of big rigs for films and TV, but he declined after having close calls during the making of this film. It's not easy to manoeuvre a heavy truck like that on narrow winding dirt roads for stunts. Plus they only had one truck to work with as it was not your standard road truck it was a heavy haulage Pacific and are not common in New Zealand, It was an extra heavy truck due to all the extra metal plating built on it to look heavily armoured. That's what's so good about old films, all the stories with all the actual real stunts. No CGI crap. (Plus the use of the HAM Radio chatter in the beginning with that music playing behind it still gives me the creeps that whole sound track in general has an Erie vibe). Many people who worked on this film worked in the LOTR trilogies such as John Bach - Bones the driver, and also in the 1989 film Willow and the Starwars films from The Phantom Menace to The Revenge of the Sith. Least the old films like this one had some substance to the characters and story plot. Nothing great has been made for close to two decades. Bar just a few odd films, such as the LOTR trilogies or something like Edge of Tomorrow and etc. I think the modern young audience of today does not grasp slow-burn story and character development films they are just out for the next big wow bedazzle momment of a dopamine thrill hit. This film is in my top five favourite films, as it has a nostalgia of being one of the first films my parents rented on video in 1983. Along with Convoy 1978 (RIP Kris Kristofferson), Amityville Horror II 1982 (RIP Burt Young also in Convoy), The Creeping Flesh 1973 (RIP Peter Cushing), Death Ship 1980 (RIP Richard Crenna also in Rambo 1, 2 & 3) and the scariest film I've ever seen to date the Last Cannibal World 1977 (An obscure true story, hence why it is scary. RIP to all the real-life victims). I could rewatch Battle Truck many times over. I would say it would be on my list of what films you would have if you were stranded on a Desert Island.

Saw this as Warlords Of The 21st Century. It wasn't hiding it was a Road Warrior rip off, especially copying the idea of the tanker truck in Mad Max 2. I do like the 80's Battletruck design! The war rig in Fury Road looks an awful lot like it. Casting wasn't the worst as it had John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin from Cheers) and Bruno Lawrence (Zac Hobsen from the much better kiwi sci fi movie The Quiet Earth). If you want the worst post apocalypse mad max rip off movies from the 80's, they were made in Italy.
I will confess, the truck design itself is decent. But not nearly enough to save this awful movie. Oh yeah, the Italians have made some atrocious rip-offs lol.
Far as I'm concerned, there are only 2 good mad Max flicks, none of the rest are worth watching. Beck was in this? Loved the warriors, but I might just pass on this one as it looks every bit as bad as you say. Thanks again for another fun review!
