There's some bball shoes with incredible traction, new tech, comfortable, impact protection, ankle support and the newest of new for 2024 BUT they look ugly on court. So when something like these Adidas AE 1's (Anthony Edward's signature sneaker) lebron 21's or Kyrie Irving's new anti shoe releases with major streetwear appeal it's a good purchase.

I miss that Nike basketball era where everyone was wearing LeBron 7s thru 11s so casually. Kd 4s, 6s and 7s went hard. Foamposites. Wearing Kobe’s, especially the 7/8s era. The 2012 and 2013 all star packs 🔥. It’s crazy it’s not like that anymore. I agree. I do like the LeBron 20 and 21 for casual wear. They look nice. Jordan 32 Italy is solid too. It def seems more difficult and more niche now to wear modern basketball shoes today compared to the 2011-2014 era.

The reason why the newer basketball sneakers can’t be worn casually or atleast most of them is because they have a wild color or a crazy design that doesn’t flow with your casual outfit, the ones in the 80s, 90s and before were simpler

these, the harden vol 8s and book 1s are all solid new releases to rock for casual wear on the daily. im on my feet all day and sometimes gravitate more towards these for the new tech and designs at decent price rather than pay arm and a leg for a release w/ the same stuff. the future is here

I like that the AE 1s in white resemble the yeezy 700 azaels. His silhouette is phenomenal for casual off the court wear. Books new shoe also has potential to bring back stylish ball shoes. I hope we keep this energy up.

Just wore my Kobe 9 EXT mids casually. I have not worn them in a while and the fit gave me those 1st day of school vibes.
Bought these for primarily casual, I love the design. Like a refined Yeezy Quantum and The Kobe hybrid.
This is the first colorway I thought was the most easy to style off the court. The other colorways are cool, but I wouldn't rock off the court

That black and white AE1 silhouette happens to be a very doable silhouette with a lot of potential right fits like you showed. The All Star version is better looking on its own but that color starts to get a lot harder to dress. I'd be curious to see a video with fits on those. And then other silhouettes can be much harder to pull off.
The All Star you can pair it with black, blue, purple, burgundy etc.

Really appreciate this one. Even wondering this myself. Mostly because I try to keep the amount of shoes I have minimal and don’t like the idea of paying for a basketball only pair when I barely even get to play.
The 80/90s basketball sneakers are now worn for fashion rather than playing in and the 2015+ basketball sneakers are now worn for playing in and not fashion.
My style which is streetwear/men’s wear doesn’t suit the newer basketball sneakers but there are definitely some fly silhouettes out there and like another post commented the colour ways are fire. I guess it all depends on your individual style and preferences.

I’m so grateful for the fact that I went to highschool during the early 2010s where wearing Lebron 8,9,10s and KD 6s was so acceptable. Actually the norm. As well as like hyperdunks, Kobe 6-8s, and all the foams. Nike really had the scene in a chokehold.

I wear basketball shoes caeually on occasion. With streetwear clothes. They are comfortable and look nice. I guess the art is in blending it 2ith the rest of the outfit.

The fit with the baggy/relaxed fit jeans fit the most with the chunky shape of the shoe...these can work but the more athleasure look goes best with these
This sneaker is versatile enough for casual wear, but it truly shines when paired with slim, tapered outfits, in my opinion.
I was just wearing the Lebron 20 Breds the other day. The 20’s and 21’s are so good. No feels on the AE joints
If I'm being honest, these are just like a more performance hybrid of the yeezy quantum/700v3 (neoprene booty with the outer rubberized wavy cage). It's a good shoe that definitely has some lifestyle appeal
I'd love to own and wear the GT Jump 2 's and maybe pick the simplest colourway - white/black. The mix of foam and air tech just fascinates me.

They give off a Yeezy 700V3 mixed with 700 MNVN kinda vibe. The minimal design I guess can make it easy to style around
90s bball sneakers, yes. Newer stuff, sometimes the Kobe 11’s, and I’m probably in the minority here but I like the Jordan 34 casually. Thats about it though.
I think the hoop shoes for casual is coming back. I myself started wearing hoop shoes strictly with sweat suits / tech fleece suits, I just focus on neutral colorways. Especially I don’t have time to play in them might as well use them casually. I can’t get enough of being a hoop shoe sneaker head. Thats what started everything for me. The 2012 era when I was a kid.

I believe you can wear new age b-ball sneakers casually, it just depends on the style and model.
I think what some forget is that when Michael was playing we rocked his sneakers casually. They were brand new models with the new tech at the time. I do think you can absolutely wear new basketball sneakers casually. It’s just not hot in the streets to wear new models casually. That’s just my take though. I know many will disagree. With that said I definitely wear my Lukas, and new model J’s casually. I get more compliments on the new stuff more than retro’s. A grocery store manager loved the 34 Infrareds I was rocking a few years back.

Absolutely you can, but the key component to making contemporary performance based basketball sneakers is having pants that are tapered and stacked to show off your sneakers

I fw it, i am a lifelong nba fan, but I don't play at all. Like you said, it depends. For me, these would look ass with my cropped Uniqlo smart trousers lol, but would look good with a more casual FOG fit or some shorts!

The way I see it and my answer to all the people that say you should only wear them to hoop in is that I’d much rather see someone wearing the shit outta a pair of shoes and giving them the use off the court than see a hooper wear them every 6 months because the rest of the time they stick to their Kobes. I bought a pair of Currys recently for the ankle support as a gym shoe and it’s held up incredibly

Converse sneakers are basketball sneakers as well as dunks and all of Jordans sneakers. but i do agree that not every sneaker will fit into the category of being a casual sneaker, it all depends on how the individual sneaker looks. and also, wear what you want and like

It's a fine line. I think if you get it wrong you end up looking super goofy, and I think it's much easier to get it wrong than right. With so many options for lifestyle and retro shoes, I would ask why bother at all? Budget would be a reason, as in, you can't afford too many pairs so you what you play in you also wear casually. To be honest, I think it's something kids would do, wear their actual sports shoes casually.
All your fits here look really good and that's a clean pair of shoes, but for someone in this space with so many options already on deck, I would separate my performance footwear from my casual footwear, much in the same way I wouldn't go play football in a pair of sambas or gazelles, I'm not going to wear a pair of astro boots (cleats) casually. In the same way, if I played basketball and had shoes for playing in, I wouldn't wear cement 3s to play in and a current performance pair to wear casually. Not that you can't or shouldn't, just I don't see the need or want to.

As someone who's 40+, the way i wear basketball sneakers is KISS - Keep it simple stupid. The shoes are so loud already the rest of my outfits had to be as simple and toned down as possible: no bold logos, no patterns, monochromatic, base or earth tone colours, anf if possible, higher quality materials. I would usually wear a knitted sweatshirt or just a plain slim fitting sweatshirt up top, with slim sweatpants. That way there wouldn't be too many thing going on with the outfits that's trying to compete for attention with the basketball sneakers.
I bet the ae1 is much more comfortable than air jordans by light years
