Reilly Brangan We call it the happy hand. There’s a lot of static electricity build up on the canopy during flight. The happy hand removes it so it’s safe to touch.

The Plane Captain is wiping the canopy with the "Happy Hand", an electrically grounded static discharge tool used to dissipate the static charge generated on the canopies during flight, use to be a grounded glove back in the day. If not done correctly, the pilot can get severely shocked when touching the canopy after it opens. ATCS (Ret), D-back from '12-'15.
