Odunpazarı Houses are historical houses from the Ottoman Period in the Odunpazarı district, which is the first settlement of Eskişehir. They bear the architectural features and motifs of places such as Safranbolu, Beypazarı and Göynük. It is on the UNESCO world heritage list.
Eskişehir's Odunpazarı district is built on the hills in the southern part of the city. It extends to the area called Bademlik. According to a rumor, the first people who thought of settling in Eskişehir hung a sheep's liver in the area where Odunpazarı and the current Porsuk Stream are located. Whichever one lasts the longest will be chosen as a residential area. The liver hung in Odunpazarı deteriorated later and the first settlement was formed here.
Preserving Ottoman examples, the city has survived to the present day as a whole, preserving its customs, traditions and customs with its winding roads, dead-end streets, wooden ornamented, adjacent regular houses with bay windows. Odunpazarı residences are generally structured in two types. The first type of houses have entrances from the street and gardens at the back. The second type of residences are with the gardens in front and the residences in the garden; They were built as 1, 2, or 3 floors. Houses generally consist of a sofa and surrounding rooms. In multi-storey residences, the ground floor is reserved for service services such as kitchens and warehouses, and life continues on the upper floor. The corner room with windows on two sides on the front facades of the residences is larger and more important.
Within the scope of a cultural center project by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, in an area overlooking Odunpazarı Square and visible from the road, houses were built in reinforced concrete carcass style with authentic architecture, and within this scope, the Eskişehir Contemporary Glass Arts Museum was first opened on December 1, 2007.
