Pauly shore was such a big part of growing up in the 90s for me. Absolutely love his movies!💜 The Weasel definitely deserves to be brought over to Blu-ray and 4K. 💯🙏

Really have been loving your videos lately! I absolutely agree with The Ref getting a Blu-Ray or 4K, I watched that last Christmas and absolutely loved it. Quick correction, though: Hollywood Pictures was actually a division of Disney itself. It was created as another adult label for Disney to increase production. Pretty much a sister studio to Touchstone. So yes, Disney technically owns Encino Man and Son In Law, which you were not wrong about, but they didn't acquire those as part of the Fox acquisition, as they actually made them back in the day.

Oh man!!! SON-IN LAW IS CINEMA! I watch certain scenes on repeat when I do sit down for my bi-yearly binge lol. Unbelievably quotable still! Had to eventually buy it digitally because the DVD is presented in 4:3 which is trying after all these years. Awesome content, awesome vid!

I am still waiting on "Waking Ned Devine", (1998) my main watch for St. Patricks Day, but it is still only on a low-res non-anamorphic DVD.
Summer Rental(1985) with John Candy definitely deserves a blu ray, its criminal that Paramount still hasnt put this on blu ray, like wtf....Another one that comes to mind is The Distinguished Gentlemen(1992) with Eddie Murphy...Stakeout(1987) is another one especially considering the sequel already has a blu ray...Ritchie Rich(1994), Dennis The Menace(1993), Rookie Of The Year(1993), Little Giants(1994) are some kids classics i would like to see get blu rays

For me, it's Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo. Love that movie. I bought it on DVD and then on Prime only because there was no Blu-ray. You have a great ending for this one on comedy with the clip from Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo and then the DVDs shooting with your reaction! You may not have planed the last bit, but priceless!

I love Encino Man! I havent seen it in years, tho. Also, there was an Archie movie that literally copied the plot of Encino Man; it was called, “The Archies in: Jugman”.

I love both "McHales Navy" and "Down Periscope", but "Down Periscope" is the greater film. In large part, A.) because of its arrow-straight plot and consistent pacing, which is nice in a weeknight comedy (it was great on TV because no matter when you tuned in, it still worked well), and B.) because it serves as a savvy yet silly parody send-up film for the entire submarine film... "sub-genre", from "Destination Tokyo" to "Crimson Tide". The more sub films you have seen, the funnier it becomes, just because it leans into the tropes and plays them for laughs or subverts them.
Wheraes McHales Navy is much more its own idiosyncratic film, a naval equivalent of Sgt Bilko, and a light-hearted spoof of 1980-90s action movies. Good, but on its own terms, rather than in refetence to a genre history.

I read Sean Astin's book called "There and back again" and he had a chapter about Encino Man. He hated the movie, did not want to be in it at all plus hated Pauley Shore. The producers gave him a hard time because he was overweight and didn't slim down. His attitude and experience making the movie was so bad that they did not put him in on the poster or VHS cover.
I loved Encino Man and was bummed about how much he hated making the movie.
That's really cool BTS info, I didn't know that. But I did notice he wasn't on the cover which was kinda weird since he's the lead.
I recently met Tom Arnold, told him I was a big fan of Big Bully and McHale's Navy. He was a nice guy and he signed a Big Bully poster for me. Down Periscope is criminally underrated. Another great 90s comedy not mentioned and very hard to find is PCU from 1994. Never released on Blu ray and not streaming anywhere. I got my copy on DVD but it's hard to find a copy of it unless you are willing to overpay.
And a perfect video to once again point to The Ref. Absolute tragedy it has never been released on Blu. The aspect ratio issue with the DVD adds to the sting.
I'd buy blurays of both Duece Bigelow movies in a heartbeat. I wish they'd make a Part 3 and release it on Netflix since Adam Sandler has a production deal with them. My dvd of Duece Bigelow European Gigilo is called "The Assume the Position Edition". 🤣 I think that went out of print pretty quickly.
ive seen that edition at thrift shops but I think they are the same as the "Special Edition" I have, I do like that edition name way better though hahaha

I’ve had California Man on DVD since forever, definitely deserves a 4K. I recently put Son in Law on DVD in my eBay watchlist because I haven’t seen it in years, might have to grab it for £10. Airheads is another favourite comedy that needs a 4K, I’d even settle for a Blu-ray.
Yea airheads is 1 of the more expensive Blu-ray’s here in the states, hard to find too
@thelastmoviestanding Yeah. I remember a time I could get the Blu-ray at a reasonable price on eBay, but I only bought a multiregion player last December. I'm stuck with the DVD until we get another release. This year being the 30th Anniversary, so I was hoping. 🤞🏻

Following the Rob Schneider films, what about Hot Chick and Animal? I thought Hot Chick was pretty great. Had a younger Anna Faris and Rachel McAdam, and they were so funny.Rob’s films keep getting overlooked for Blu-ray upgrades. Hopefully that will change.
I LOVE Hot Chick! so much I hated Freaky for copying it hahahaha (I need to give Freaky a second chance). Animal is funny but its been soooo long since ive seen it lol

I didn’t even think of a few of these. Loved The Ref! It’s a damn crime these Pauly Shores aren’t on blu. 2 others I’d love to see are National Lampoons Senior Trip and Cheech n Chong’s Nice Dreams. Up in Smoke gets all the spotlight but I like Nice Dreams a lil more tbh, it’s hilarious plus has pee wee Herman sniffing rails lol…..I’m sorry, I’m sorry! lol gotta watch the flik to get that

Don't worry, Arrow will eventually release a 4K "Shore Box Set" that has all of his classic movies in it.

Odd how all those Pauly Shore’s didn’t get an upgrade. McHale’s Navy is awful. It was part of this wave 50s TV show remakes. Sgt Bilko, Honeymooners, Car 54 Where Are You, and a couple others that slip my mind.
McHale's Navy doesn't hold up very well, I will admit lol I don't like most of those films you named but I actually really like Sgt Bilko, I didn't know that was a 50s TV Show.

So many films have 1080p versions on streaming. Just release it on physical!!!

While enjoy most if not all of these at this point they'd need to come in at a low cost for people to buy them.
I found a great movie 1997 Paul Dillion and lot of cast who were unknown n rising stars it was filmed in Chicago it on dvd never got a Blu-ray Chicago cab 🚕. John cusack film Michael Shannon n John c Riley n Julianna Moore n Gillian Anderson.

You mention all these mediocre comedies, but omit Johnny Dangerously? Perhaps one of the most underrated comedies of the 80's. Michael Keaton, Joe Piscopo, Danny DeVito, Maureen Stapleton, and many others. Speaking of Joe Piscopo and Danny DeVito, Brian DePalma's Wise Guys has been over looked for far too long.
I'll be completely honest with you, I've never heard of Johnny Dangerously, I'll see if I can find it thrifting this weekend. The cast seems incredible.
