Fifty years ago visiting Genesee I first heard that unique treatment of the Psalms in the old church as the monks chanted back and forth in a call and response movement. I've never forgotten that sound and have never been able to hear it anywhere else. At vigils at 3am in the dark church the Psalmist longs for a God that has deserted him in his distress and yearns to see his God again. How long, O Lord, how long is his plaintive cry.
Ever closer to the good God. We thank God for your wonderful vocation and thereby your prayers and sacrifices for the world. Never has the world been so much in need of them as it is now.
KELVIN MUCHIRA Kevin, making a retreat would be a great initial step. There is also a lay group of men and women who follow the Cistercian charism known as the Genesee Lay Contemplatives. There is information on them on the Abbey of the Genesee web site.
Love your bread -- and every time I buy it, I think of you fellas in the Abbey. Keep up the good work!
