all ending describe the effect of scale values. if you cant balance liberty, morality and unity, you will be perished. if you prefer one of another, the balance will turn to chaos. At the very last, those 3 values should be balanced. thats why when choose true ending, all color on the scale conviction glows.

I think Benedict's ending creates an interesting dynamic for another Triangle Strategy Part 2. Where Glenbrook falls into civil war with the prodigal son Roland rising up against Serenoa's royalist forces. The tale of two best friends turning on each other. Idore and Benedict of course manipulating one or the other behind the scenes.

Honestly, of the 3 character endings, I personally find myself preferring Frederica's ending above the other two. Roland's is just terrible in my opinion, and Benedict's has Serenoa lose all agency and just more or less be Benedict's puppet. In Frederica's ending, Serenoa genuinely feels himself align with Frederica more than any of the other two, remarked that he will not regret the path they chose and even gets a very heroic moment during his sacrifice where he expresses such firm resolve and strength that I feel is lacking in the other endings.

While I love that there is a happy ending for the game through the Golden Route Ending, I like how the other three (and even the Chapter 12 game over) endings were a bit morally grey. Frederica, Benedict, and Roland all got what they wanted in the end- but at a steep price.
-Frederica saves the Roselle, but leaves the entire continent consumed by the flames of war- and her soon-to-be husband sacrificed
-Benedict has Serenoa crowned as the ruler of Glenbrook and Hyzante is toppled over, but the poor in Norzelia become more impoverished than ever before, and the “peace” in the realm is flimsy at best
-Roland sees his ideals of peace and happiness through the realm realized; but the Roselle and other undesirables of Hyzante are cast away or set to give their lives to backbreaking labor (and there are strict rules for the believers in Hyzante’s faith as well), and, in a sense of bitter irony, Roland becomes the Minister of Salt, and is made to control the people that he sacrificed for “the greater good”
I just personally like how all of these endings made the player probably feel AT LEAST a little bad in their decision (and some much worse than that) which makes the Golden Route ending all the more happier, especially since it’s the last ending a lot of players get.

    • @akhafasu
      @akhafasu  2 года назад +10

I like the fact that the developers focused the endings in a way like everything has a price - to get something you need to make some sacrifices. Late but yeah. The three endings all have pros and cons. Benedict's ending basically creates pre-french revolution without guns but free the world from racism. Frederica's ending has Norzellia in a constent war like WW I and finally Roland's lies to people in order save the most lives and equality among the working class at the expense of the minority Rozelle. Really non of these ending are completely "good" and each have a in-universe reason to be probable. Benedict if Serenoa wants to have all peoples having equal opportunity in gaining wealth regardless of gender or race (Equal not fair and nothing about wealth). Frederica if Serenoa wants to grant people truth and ultimate freedom (But freedom without rules, laws or guidelines are chaos and anarchy, survival of the fittest and we atleast know that they won’t return to Norzellia anytime soon). Finally Roland if Serenoa wants to bring peace and save the most lives in Norzellia ( At the cost of the truth, Corruption among the church and turning a blind eye to enslavement of a minority).
TLDR: None of the three routes (non-golden) can be considered right and equal and the game is build that way to bend towards what you value most. Freedom, Life or equality. Morality (Saving lives, morals) Liberty (Freedom), Utility ( The ability to use any means)
Ironically the opposite too in the ending as not all of these values are fulfilled. Morality in lives but not in truth. Liberty in freedom but not for the common people (Or Serenoa unless you count from his mortal coil). Utility but not for the poor. So the golden combining the best from all give the complete picture of the best outcome and really rewards the people who invested time to view each ending.

Frederica's ending is the only one of the three which while yeah bittersweet ends on a happy note seeing everyone happy along with what is clearly Serenoa's son waving to his mother Frederica where as the other two endings with the respective problems that both Frederica and Roland who left the party have to endure. Benedict's sucks because it's not just Roland who loses but even Serenoa and Frederica who are clearly unhappy in the end card especially telling when she addresses as your majesty instead of my love like she used to, it's actually the most concerning ending in that another war is going to brew and shows Benedict is shortsighted in the long term. When you have two villains that are still alive with Gustadolph and Idore that's trouble. Serenoa is a puppet king with Benedict being the "true" king in being no different from how the old Glenbrook was with the nobles only difference in Benedict is doing what he thinks is best for Serenoa and House Wolffort, but that's just it "thinks" and in golden ending he even laments what if his path had happened showing even devs know his ending is bad.

Roland wanted his people to be safe, the entire game was building up to him putting his people first constantly, so when he realizes that lying is the only way to keep the peace, that's what he pursues. Sure, there's bits and pieces of him wanting revenge on Gustadolph, but that just comes with it too. It's peace based on lies. Lies that, while hurting a few people, bring prosperity to many more.

I agree, I can't understand how some people think Frederica's ending is the best one... She was so upset when they debated handing over Roland to Gustadolph but she had no problem to sacrifice her husband if it meant accomplishing her goals. Not only that but she forces Serenoa to choose the Roselle over his people, his land, his family legacy .
People keep saying it's bitter sweet because they only focus on the main cast riding off into the sunset and completely forget that the Norzelia continent is being torn apart by war and thousands of people are dying.
I really think they ought to have shown the continent destroyed like they did with the Benedict ending. Probably the creators thought that Serenoa dying caused enough impact but apparently it didn't for a lot of people.
Not only that but what really baffles me is that the people that like the Frederica ending and do not like the Benedict ending fail to grasp that in the BE the Roselle are also free, they can perfectly pack their bags and travel to Centralia if they wish to do so, no one will stop them. Frederica as well does not need to stay next to Serenoa 24/7 she could perfectly well make an expedition with the Roselle to Centralia, since she did find the book anyway, even with thr BE. Now that she is a queen she can have several military folk escort her and with the Aerofrost always so interested in the freedom of knowledge she can also take some scholars that are adept at geography. Frederica is the one that failed her people because she became reliant on Benedict and Serenoa instead of having a more proactive approach as she did in her own ending or Roland's ending.

I just want to remind everyone that despite what it seems, Rolands Route is genuantly the best ending for the common man of Norzelia. Benedicts route has an ever-widening gap between the rich and poor, Fredericas ending abandons literally everyone but the Roselle and thus dooms the people to an everlasting war between Gustadolph and Benedict against everyone else, and fuck, even the golden Ending may not be as good since due to Lyla having free reign with no ethical limits to conduct her experiments, scientific advancements would skyrocket(look at what she achieved with merely Hyzante, i.e. Automatons, Hierophant, Immortality, WMDs, literal Time Magic) similar to what happened in Germany when the funny austrian painter was in power.
As long as youre not a Roselle or a heretic(which, face it, is an extremly small number of people), youll be living the best possible life, better then in every other route. Naturally, because of the nature of the golden Ending its still preferable since 1)everyone now lives comfortably under Rolands rule, Roselle, heretics and everyone else included; 2)salt is equally distributed with no need for the Consortium and 3)actually good people are in power(Lyla not really since she was complicit in everything Hyzante has done and contributed to it, but I just chalk that up to pussy privilige similar to Avlora, though she at least tries to make amends and make things right).

We don't even know if they've learned how to live independently after being slaves so long. At least in the Roland ending, most of the people are happy. Sucks for the Roselle, but only the Golden ending has everyone happy. Benedict's ending is also bad, but it still doesn't seem as bleak as Frederica's. At least some of the people are rich and they could eventually make a more egalitarian society out of the wealth produced.

Benedict's ending is just another pretense for war. Roland's ending just sucks. Living good at the expanse of the suffering of others is no way to live. Frederica's ending has you leave everything behind for a new start. You leave everything for a war that was not yours to fight to begin with. Yes, you doom everyone to uncertainty and chaos but after credits scenes shows everything going back to a certain peace although at that point Benedict's left all alone with no confidants to confide in.

Honestly, I feel like the Benedict ending is the most realistic and the one that really feels like real human history to me. The True ending is overly naive and idealistic, it feels like Serinoa's daydreaming. The whole "Idore turns into a god-like being" felt like a copt-out and an easy way out of the moral dilemma of the conflict, also it was just too much of a stereotypical jrpg ending for a game as serious and realistic (even with some magic involved) as this one. I liked the horror of the homunculus in the golden route, but to me it felt really rushed and by far the most wasted plot point in the entire game. It could have been SO GOOD to have Frederica have to face the fate of some of her people and the horror it entails... because it was not at all acknowledge that those puppets were rossielle or somehow made from them, it was just implied by their looks. Personally, I like to believe they are somehow clones or even some sort of experimented breed of rosielle that came from Frederica's mom after she was taken back to Hyzende. What better punishment for the woman that dared to defy the goddess will than to turn her into the face of their puppets? Also, the plot of the magical crystals was terribly executed in my opinion. It needed far more development. How are they exactly made? What is the magic system of this world based of? What are the rules? Are all these plot holes just sequel or even prequel bait? Probably.
