I agree 100%. Anybody can put nice plastic interiors in...the tailgate is a gimmick IMO IM concerned with reliability...period. If a guy is gonna spend $67k on a truck it better last 10 years and a couple hundred thousand miles without major problems. I know tons of coworkers who bought the 6.0 Powerstroke and after spending almost $50k on a truck then had to spend another $8k on making it reliable. Thats robbery IMO. Although i love this review and hope he does more....IMO the real facts will be known once this 3.0 fleet starts to reach the 100K+ mile mark...once the warranty is done and they have been on the road for 5+ years then we find out who was swimming naked after the tide went out. 5.9 Cummins 12V no problem...but it remains to be seen how the emissions stuff and longevity of the motor behaves over time.

10:27 I’ve seen four or five year old GM trucks with their frames completely rusted. I live in Michigan and the amount of salt we dump on our roads just kills cars. GM’s wax-coated frames are not helping anything. Wax coating works in the south where the wax stays softer, but up north it just flakes and peels right off which traps moisture and dirt against the frame which accelerates frame rot.

I live in Mississippi rust isn't an issue, but I have been burned when it comes to diesel trucks. had a 6.0 ford, 2nd Gen Ram Eco Diesel. both motors blew, had an 08 Duramax also lots of mechanical issues but not drive train related. The only diesels I have had luck with are the 7.3 (2-1995 models, 97, and 02). I currently still have my 95 f-350 Choo-Choo custom dually. Never had a Cummins so I can't speak to those, i know they are good engines. I am very interested in this truck you reviewed tho. I would likely buy the Sliverado just to save the money, even tho I think the Sierra looks better.

Not sure of your typical comment volume but over a 1094, definitely struck a cord with truck buyers , but 127,512 views in 16 days at first glance seems like a very successful review. This is by far the BEST review of any truck I have ever seen, because most reviewers sound like a news reporters with annoying voice inflection and sensationalism. This review was the meat and potatoes of what any hobbiest mechanic all the way to professional mechanic wants to know about. The hardest part is always, what happens, like you mentioned 3 - 5 years down the road. I bought a 2005 GMC Denali because it was much more affordable than the 2012's or so that I was looking at before when I purchased in 2018. I'll never buy a new truck unless I fall into riduculous amounts of money someday, but who really wants that anyway? I just want to make the best decisions for what I can afford. So , maybe buying a 5 year old truck with low mileage, maybe an old guy just used it to pull his lawn clippings trailor 4 times month, and now I have a 5 year depreciated truck for $25,000 less or more than what these brand new shiny vehicles are bringing in. But I was scared off from the Active Fuel Management....a.k.a Dynamic Fuel Management in newer models that GM is putting on everything Gasoline. So, I switched and started watching as many videos about these Straight 6 Diesels with the same torque ratings roughly as the Lb7's had coming out of the early 2000's and now the trucks are getting 26 MPG? That's a fantastic thing, but if I have to spend $70,000 to get that mileage....It would take a long time to make up those savings....I don't want a truck that is designed to fail at 6 years just like everything else, washing machines, refridgerators, microwaves, toasters....At least my Walmart, Plastic MR. COFFEE machine is still brewing my morning sustinence mud. Black Gold. Wisconsin Wake ME UP. I just want to say, I've been a fan of your RUclips channel for a few years now, I used to be a security officer with lots of computer access, and for hours I would watch the AUDI build videos and just be amazed at the fabrication aspect of what you do. Add the humor and genuineness, plus the trips to the junkyard, my dad owned a junkyard in the 1990's when I was a kid through highschool, so I relate to that world, its really enjoyable for me watching this channel. I'll make a point to keep watching reviews like this as much as I can...3, 5, 7 year reviews would be great, and I hope GM gets there self proclaimed elitist egos in check and start making trucks like they used to, tough, reliable, accessible for mechanics to take care of the moderate fixes, instead of using the corporate PROFIT at all costs, until we start seeing drastic sales decline models that piss me off when I so badly want to keep the family tradition of buying GM. We have a 1970 GMC, that can sit for years, pour a little gas in that 350 4 barrel and the beast comes alive. 1985 Suburban loaded for weight and rusted halfway up the doors, but still plows snow just fine. My 2005 Denali has treated me well, still only have 130,000 miles on it, I'm still learning what I need to do to keep the NP149 transfer case doing okay, with AWD ALL the time, but I'm getting there. Doing a fluid change on Diffs, TC, Transmission(rebuilt valve body going in today...TCC Regulator Occalating Valve has a broken spring) so new fluid in Trans again. Figured everything rebuilt easier for me to just replace all solenoids and all valves redone in one shot, since don't have much time to spend on fixing my own stuff as much. Okay, my ramble is done. Thanks again for a great Review Rich. Hope to see more. God Bless.

Great video, Guys. I have a 2017 Canyon 2.8 Duramax in Hamilton , Ontario you’re welcome to dissect. It’s had Krown applied every year so it may be a good case study to see if it actually offers any benefit.

Josh MacDougall - Frankly I’m shocked to learn from this video that the full size trucks are only wax dipped. I know the GMT 900 frames made in London were wax, but I figured they’d have progressed by now. With respect to mine, regardless of the type of factory coating, I’m still curious to know whether the Krown spray offers any benefit. In my mind ~$120/year is cheap insurance against corrosion. Or is it? Generally I’m happy with the Canyon. It gets better fuel economy than my wife’s Camry and does everything I ask of it while still fitting in the garage. My biggest apprehension about this truck was the 6L50 transmission. I think it’s the highest torque application of that transmission and I worry about its long term reliability. But what do I know.

I live in MN and my 2015 Silverado had a lot of rust after one winter. There was a TSB for it, for people that complained. I am a good complainer. They painted on some black "paint" where they could get to the frame. It is better than nothing but truly sucks to have spent so much only to have a rusted frame one year out. Here I am 5 years out and wherever they did not touch up, is apparent, as it is total rust.

I recently started restoring a 1979 C10. Of course there is rust in the usual suspect areas of the cab floor. As I get more into it though, I am absolutely amazed at how the seam sealers and undercoating they used back then held up. For most of the frame and cab, I can scrape said coating away and literally see shiny factory paint beneath it.
