- This is an updated compilation of BBC top-of-the-hour countdowns, from the original 1997 flags animation, to the newest font refreshes in 2019.
The footage is accurate as of 15 July 2021, and will be updated next year, if some more full countdowns will be discovered.
This video itself is an updated version of the previous compilation, seen here: • BBC Countdowns Compila... . The only big updates would be the addition of the full BBC World 2001-2002 and BBC News 24 2003-2005 countdowns. I also fixed the misspelling of length.
The countdowns featured, by copyright law, don't belong to me, they were produced by the BBC and Red Bee Media, most were composed by David Lowe.
This video is not meant to break the copyright law, it is simply a compilation of these countdowns and also a graphics design project. If someone from the BBC is watching this video, feel free to claim it and earn revenue off of it.
The Persian or Arabic dude with his top-cringe awful music, please DO NOT falsely claim this video again, because you ILEGALLY COPYRIGHTED DAVID LOWE'S WORK. I WILL BE CONTACTING DAVID LOWE IF YOU DO NOT SUBTRACT YOUR CLAIMS.

I cannot fathom what RUclips was thinking when they designed the 'chapters' feature. I don't understand what sort of black magic stops me from adding chapters to my videos. Oh well.

BRILLIANT. As an American I’m most familiar with BBC World 2005-12 and the red globe logo. Always very dramatic when this music plays on my local PBS station (govt-funded channel)

It's critical people realize the hard work and personal sacrifice, it takes from the broadcast engineers, audio engineers, camera persons, reporters in the field who risk their life and health to deliver the news. Always behind the camera, operating the technical infrastructure. Rarely seen, always accountable for signal continuity.
I thought I was the only one that liked these themes!!! Amazing what emotion they can bring in our lives both good and bad....real deep feeling to some, I dont think we will ever forget certain ones from each of our era....amazing work! Thank you for sharing!!! amazing work ! History in the making!! Want to hear a live Orchestra perhaps with visual screens for each decade so we can reflect!

18:07 The countdown from late 2001 is the one I'll always remember as I was supposed to go to a massive student party on September 11th but instead we stayed at my friends place for all evening just watching at BBC.

They changed it for the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, more orchestral and black graphics. One thing i do love its the 'Pips' (every second) appear in many other news variants like sport, newsday etc the Pips are genius who every composed it. with the dramatic build up....

2006 version is the greatest piece of art of all time
This is great. The only thing I'd add is Bill Bailey's stage bit where he started playing part of the News 24 (1999) countdown, and stopped for a trance cooldown. Unfortunately, he's more influential than he thinks, because BBC gradually toned down the electronic dance nature of the countdown after that.
Last 30 seconds of the 2010 music used to be my phone ringtone for quite some time.

I never heard the 1997 version, but we didn't have BBC News back then here where I live (Norway). I think it sounds cool.
Time for an update? Apart from the completely new version with the centred timer, the BBC News countdown also slightly changed when the BBC blocks were modified, with the glow behind the timer being removed to match BBC World News (and strangely, more aliasing on the digital lines).

I love this theme.
When I found the full 2002 countdown (titled “BBC World 2002 Countdown”) back around 2014/2015 there was also another video called BBC World 2001 Countdown that had the 1999 music cut to 60s. Didn’t download it because I thought it was fake or something so I guess I am the reason no one else had a full version until 2020…
No worries. The full countdown is still way less significant than the lost-to-time 29-second test version that has the BBC World voiceover.

One thing I noticed was there are two variants of the World 2002 countdown music : the "standard" music with extra "punches" every four seconds between seconds 29-20 and 13-0 + clearer high notes (i.e the hum starting from second 28), and the HQ one which eliminates the extra "punches" and added more depth.
Any idea that the HQ version was actually aired? Or it was the standard version aired all the time?
Hmm, very interesting discovery! Bail from TV Forum used the HQ version in his mock from 2011 (uploaded to Vimeo because I can't find the original link): vimeo.com/653179597 and I guess someone extracted the audio and uploaded it to TelevisionTunes www.televisiontunes.com/BBC_World_-_2002_-_BBC_News_-_Countdown_60_Master.html, and then Monkey1 added it to the countdown ruclips.net/video/bgPDiofMB_g/видео.html. I'm guessing it was an alternate off-air version, and Bail somehow got hold of it?
@@BBCCountdownsIntros Might be, since the BBC is fond of making copious amount of tunes that most of them never seen a light of day (or ended up being used in different parts of the production). What I can tell is if you listen to both versions (standard on-air and HQ) side by side, you'll get the difference as those differences are subtle but noticeable.
Apology for the mistake of my previous comment. When I listen to the first 10sec of 2013 version and 2019 version BBC News Channel countdown, it feels like that they are 1 beat less or 1 beat more. Same issue occurs to the sombre version of BBC News Channel countdown used for the death of Prince of Wales when it counts down from 35 to 30 sec.

1. Yes, I have noticed that the next chord starts earlier in the 2019 countdown than in the 2013 countdown. This may have been changed in 2014, at the same time when the bong at 70 seconds was added.
2. The sombre version was used only a dozen times, and only for special events, so it didn't make my list. This is like including the one time where BBC played a view of their orchestra while playing the countdown.
3. This is a countdown compilation, I only included the News Channel fillers, because they were obviously based on the countdowns. I actually haven't even seen the fillers after the Reith refresh. There are too many variants and it's impossible to get the full versions. Oh, and the music is just the headlines bed.
And speaking of the Prince of Wales? Yea I thought he will live long but nope. He died before his 100th birthday and yes Elizabeth is now a widow. All you can blame this from COVID deteriorating health and more. I had no solution but to well you can’t go back in time until in the future.

Just letting you know that your description and comment's timestamp list has "Arabic TV 2008" at timestamp 21:32 instead of 31:32.
BBC Arabic and Persian services are now using the Reith graphics and lower thirds. Countdowns are still the same look.

Time to update as BBC consolidated BBC News and World News with a new rebrand
At 5:12 If You Look Closely On The BBC Logo. As You May Not Notice The Logo Was Stretched Out.
The original video source was squished to 14:9, but had the normal logo. I restored it back to 16:9, but that meant the logo is now stretched.
Two mistakes, when it's supposed to say Countdown it says Countdow and BBC Parliament had a rebrand in Feburary 2021 and BBC Persian and Arabic did in July 2021

I will never steal anyone’s content or I will be terminated. Just please do not steal BBC Countdown and Intro’s videos unless it’s the absolute necessary to make a history of BBC News World News And it’s other version and it’s countdowns with credits for his videos as well as crediting the other creators as absolutely necessary if you want to like make a history video about that but you don’t had the right. Welp gotta say is. Be honest and be peaceful don’t fight don’t take thing into a serious matter or it will make it worse than ever, what I say is that I don’t want to steal anyone’s videos because of copyright and everything else. I will had to contact everyone from that point to maybe just tell them someone or I will make a history video about the bbc news world and others from 1997 till today. I mean it’s very good to make one but you going had to credit David Lowe for this as well as BBC and BBC Countdowns and Intros for the videos and other users and a lot of them.
