Good Samaritan Society residents celebrate Christmas as a family in Iowa

“I don’t really have any family and Thanksgiving and Christmas get to be hard times for me," Good Samaritan Society resident Maggie McDaniel says. "I thought, I’ll just gather all my friends around me. That’s all I do. I open that door and go out there and gather my friends around."
Maggie lives at Heritage Landing in Milford, Iowa. The 82-year-old retired nurse, originally from southwest Georgia, hosts a Christmas party every year at the community.
With some southern comfort cooking, fellowship and a whole lot of holiday cheer, the annual Christmas party has now become one of the biggest and most-anticipated events of the year for residents and staff.
