Clare Nelson, imposter #3 in the Miss Universe segment, was actually a former Miss Pennsylvania and an entrant in the Miss America contest. She was a model by day and a band singer by night, and went on to a brief career as a recording artist (as mentioned at 15:38).
Given what you represented. I find it to be more than a little disingenuous of the producers of the show " To Tell the truth " to include her among the 3 trying to stump the panel for the obvious reason.
As of October of 2021, Carol Morris is 85 years old.
She was a hottie back then.
Great to see the beauty of a one-piece swimsuit. Like a finely shaped and form fitting Evening Gown....it just adds the Allure and Intrigue, to the wearer's mystic.

In case you're wondering about the answer to Ralph's question at 10:50, the historic Savery Hotel is located at 401 Locust Street in Des Moines, IA. At the time it opened in 1919, it was the only hotel in Iowa with a private bathroom for each hotel room. Famous guests who have stayed there include Elanor Roosevelt and Harry Truman.

6:27 Mary Healy and Ralph Bellamy voted for #2 in the first game because he "knew" which lake the Pope's summer residence Castel Gandolfo was near. He said Garda 4:56 but it's wrong, it's Lake Albano.

of all episodes I watched, this is the most entertaining one (all three contestants really fooled the panels and the questioning rounds were cheerful)
In the final round, did you notice Contestant #1 laughing 23:14 right before the real John Hall was asked to stand up? Right then, I knew the group was $1000 richer!
#1 and #2 shook hands at 23:29, since this is back before the high 5.
Carol Morris is actually the 1956 Miss Universe. I looked her up and 1957 was Gladys Zender who looks similar to contestant no. 2.

Regarding the restriction on asking a contestant to say something in a foreign language if he/she was supposed to have a knowledge of that language, Hy Gardner asks the Hungarian bartender what he would call a vodka on the rocks in Hungarian, and he was not called on it. I take it from this that all three contestants really were from Hungary.
Blair Fuller eventually became The Paris Review and wrote another novel after " A Far Place" entitled "Zebina’s Mountain."

Ralph Bellamy didn't quite understand the show nor people, like many of the guest panelists. Asking questions about where hotels are in any city, expecting everyone to know what little tidbit of information that he happens to know, isn't realistic ... and he gets irritated ... amazingly self-centered. Even when voting, he had to make another criticism about the lack of correct information.
The show was a marvel in getting folks to think, to ask questions, to analyze. The questions asked were also indicative of the panelists' comprehension, and of course, humor. Thank you for the upload.
I think that for the second group, they should have thrown Miriam Stevenson(Miss Universe 1954) in there as well!
technically Ms Morris was Miss Universe 1956 she was crowned the year of 56 and serves the year that follows and it might have been good on the egos for the other girls that the panel they thought they were the crowned one . Imagine you were voted as being more pretty than the girl who actually won. It was nice to see some real shapely ladies too. I fine show this one great when the panel gets it wrong
When she appeared on "What's My Line?", she was identified as "Miss Universe of 1956."
I thought contestant #3 looked very matronly and I knew it wasn’t her. #2 reminded me a bit of Jackie Kennedy with that wispy voice. Let’s give Carol Morris a lot if credit, too-she has won quite a few beauty pageants and she is still alive at 85!
The lyrics "will the real slim shady please stand up" makes sense to me now.
The panel had a bad time the last two games. Miss Universe #2 was a babe. The actual Miss Universe was from the same town as Radar. Mary Healy is a great substitute for Polly Bergen.

What's great is that Bud Collier never knew who the real person was either. He was just as surprised as every else, except the time his daughter was a contestant.
His son also appeared as an imposter, as well.

I refuse to believe that he didn't know that Henry Morgan was one of the imposters on the episode where the guy was a communist spy
And don't forget his wife's appearance, veiled, as a supposed undercover customs agent. Seems TTTT provided work for the whole Collyer clan.

I actually found one of the imposters in the Miss Universe segment more attractive than the real Carol Morris.

Yes, I had #2 spotted right off the bat because she was so poised when standing on the platform. But any one of the three could have been Miss Universe.

I enjoyed watching Miss Universe with my family....but I don't remember 1957 that clearly. I got 2 of the three games missing Miss U.

The response from this contestant is rather truthful....It was because of 'mis-translation' or interpretation. His response with ..'blonde' would be him trying in his limited English to say--'brown---or, brownish' in color, For that is the color of the Danube as it traverses the City. According to 'urban legends' the Danube hadn't been 'Blue' since the Romans, 1st showed up.
Carol Morris was Miss Universe 1956.... Not 1957. The 1957 pageant wasn't even held until July 19, 1957. Just wanted to set the record straight.
This was back in the time when you were required to be a woman to be in the Miss Universe pageant.

In the Miss Universe round, #2 was asked by Kitty to name a piece of music by Bach written for the viola. Her answer: Beethoven's Fifth. EEEEEEK!
She said she didn't know much Bach but could name some others; she then mentioned Beetoven's Fifth, which even I know. She also didn't know that the Des Moines Register was the leading newspaper in town, so the panel should have been able to eliminate her. She looked like Miss Universe, though.

Clare Nelson. I found six records listed for her, five with Epic and one with MGM Records. Her 1957 Epic recordings of "Moonlight Swim" and "I'm a Big Girl Now" are posted on RUclips.

Safari contestant: one of the stupidest questions I have ever heard: "In all of Ohio, what restaturants are named after animals". The contestants were dumbfounded. Wow. I'm surprised that it wasn't Bellamy asking the question, but Mary Healy. I guess she has an excuse. Another, Bellamy: "What is the population of Africa?", maybe he thought it was a country? Then he asked an inane question about how to navigate through Africa. Kitty doesn't vote for someone because of the answers to questions, she votes for the man she would like best to go on safari with. This is typical of Kitty, but she will still get upset when she thinks her questions were answered incorrectly, but will vote according to looks, which is valid, but not when you get upset about the answers to questions. Still, it is an amazing show.
In 4 years: 30 elephants, 50 buffalo, SCORES of lions , leopards and rhinos all slaughtered for "sport". And that's just the work of one guide. Now all these animals are endangered ; the rhino on the brink of extinction.
